We've been here a dozen or so times so know it good and bad.
Bad - Odd staff in office. 'No' seems to be their favourite word usually before you've finished asking. It may be a franchise but don't forget your customers.
Midges - Avoid the Pines and the stream. Nets otherwise.
Toilets need a through draft esp in morning. It reeks in there!
Pricey for tent'ers.
Good - Everything else. Book out of high season for the best experience. Take your bikes. Gotta try Pizza Riach in Aviemore PH22 1UQ!

This site is one of the best I have found lots of walking from the site and things to do around locally. We had 3 to 4 inch's of snow the one day and it made it even better and the roads were all clear in an hour or so. The only thing a lot of dogs running around off leads there were lots of signs saying dogs on a lead on site but nobody taking any notice

On the afternoon we arrived the weather was appalling it was certainly 'dreich'. Being out of the main season the reception was closed so we found the motorhome grey water disposal and 'serviced' our motorhome by dumping grey and black waste and filling up with fresh water. It is great to be able to drive over the grey water disposal point so good marks for that. We then bumped into one of the wardens who directed us to our pitching area. There was plenty of room for our 7. 5m vehicle on the stone chip hard standing.
The grassed areas were saturated but that is not the fault of the site, there had been a lot of very heavy rain.
Only one of the shower/toilet blocks was open as a section of the site was closed until the main season starts. This was not a problem as the block in the open area was very good indeed. Large, open and airy and very clean and warm. The reception area was open later in the afternoon. I did not check out the washing up and laundry facilities as we did not need to use them but they are a part of the same 'service' block.
The location of the site is fantastic alongside the woods and the loch which has a great sandy beach. This is a fantastic site if you have a canoe or bicycles as there are miles of cycle paths in the forest. It is also only a short distance from Cairngorm for skiers and the mountain railway. It is a great central location for exploring the Cairngorm region.
We will be coming back with our grand children who certainly enjoy the 'beach' and forest walks.

Having read previous reviews about the water situation, we were somewhat concerned. As it happens, nothing could have been further from our minds. Great site, good amenities, and the water was not a problem as there was a crate of bottles in reception for free, not to mention the 4 ton barrel of free drinking water also available.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return someday.
Also tried a couple of nights in the Pine Marten bar which is canny, if not a little snug.
If you are going soon, please do not let the water situation put you off. And the beach was as good as they get.

Lovely site with helpful staff. Arrived with temperatures of 29C and a full campsite, so glad I prebooked. Very close to Loch Morlich(which still had people swimming at 9pm) Toilets and showers were clean with very hot water. Beware of the midges though as I was heavily bitten although my partner and bairn didn't have a bite. Will definitely be back.

Atrocious, we arrived late one evening after a long two day walk. We booked in and were shocked at the extortionate price £27. 00 for two adults and 1 small tent! Normal price is between £16 and £20.
We paid because it was late and we were tired, only after booking were we informed about the water problem. We were given a bottle of water each like they were bestowing a huge honour on us.
When attempting to find a place to camp, the ground was either ankle deep in mud and puddles, closed off with cones because it was so churned up, or that stony that the pegs would only go into the ground by an inch.
Unhelpful, unfriendly, unwelcoming staff who appeared to act like we were an inconvenience even though we were paying way over the odds to stay there.
Will definitely never use this camp site again, and would never recommend it.

Lovely area for walking and cycling. Have been twice before and love this area.
This time it was spoilt by the water situation. On arrival at site we were told there was an issue with the water and we were presented with a bottle to drink. We found out later that it was all of the Glenmore area affected. We were told, and notices to this effect were put up in the area, dangerous bacteria was present in the water supplies, and water should not be ingested either by drinking or during showering etc.
My brother's family was camping next to us. His wife, and one of his sons, had a bout of sickness and diarrhoea. Following this both families decided to leave two days early. We asked at reception and were quite brusquely told we were not entitled to receive any refund, that we were offered a refund when we arrived (we were not), and having stayed five nights a refund was no longer available.
On arrival home I spoke to Camping in the Forest holidays who were even more unhelpful. I pointed out that no effort was made to contact us prior to arrival, although the site was aware the day before we arrived. I suggested that the campsite, through no fault of their own, were unable to provide the facilities we had paid for (and they are not cheap!) and were, therefore, unable to fulfil their part of the contract. I think the provision of safe hot and cold water to be a fairly basic amenity on a site! I have stayed in many Camping in the Forest sites in the past. I will not do so again.

We stayed for 3 nights in early June. The site is very well located for visiting sites in Cairngorm National Park and is only 10-15 mins drive from Aviemore for supermarkets etc. Reception were very helpful and welcoming on arrival which made for a nice start to our stay. The site is quite large and pitches are well spaced so overall feels very spacious. There are many lovely walks direct from the site which are waymarked making it easy to just wander and not worry about map reading. Within a couple of minutes you can walk to the lochside sandy beach which is beautiful, especially at sunset. Facilities are clean with plenty of hot water, but the push button showers are a bit irritating. This was our first experience of a camping in the forest site and we would use one again due to the lovely setting, but overall it was not quite up to the standard of a full club site despite the price being very similar.

We have visited this site several times in the last few years including once over Hogmanay. It is a large well-run site mostly open areas but we always try to get a pitch in the pinewoods by the loch. Here we usually see red squirrels around our unit.
The site has good facilities in two toilet blocks. There is a small store and bar near the site and a regular bus service to Aviemore and the Cairngorm funicular railway.
From the site there are plenty of walking and cycling routes in Glenmore and Rothiemurcus Forests and there are canoes and sailing dinghies for hire on the loch. In summer we like to swim in the loch from what is claimed to be Britain's highest beach, a half mile strip of wide sandy beach, complete with a cafe and backed by pine trees and the Cairngorm mountains
Further afield are Aviemore with plenty of shops, cafes and pubs, the RSPB Osprey site at Loch Garten and of course the Cairngorm funicular railway.
We expect to be back before long but - a warning - this is the Highlands so it can rain, heavily, and in summer midges can be an issue. You need to be ready for these issues.

We have visited this site about 10 times over the last year and it never fails to disappoint!
All the bays are clearly marked and well spaced, there are plenty of pitches to choose from to suit everyone's taste. These are of a good size and the only complaint our friends had were the fact that the electric tent pitches are on gravel and not too comfy underfoot.
The staff are welcoming and friendly and the reception area is well staffed and help to answer any queries you may have. The staff ensure that the rules are adhered too and this makes for a pleasant, well run site.
The facilities are clean, well maintained and stocked. My only complaint was the fact that the sanitary bins seemed to be overflowing in a couple of the female cubicles, which was a bit unpleasant.
The showers are always spotless and spacious, enough for an adult and a child. I agree that the need to keep hitting the button to turn on the hot water is a bit outdated, but I guess it is there to deter people lingering too long.
The walk from the camp site to the Loch front is only a few minutes and it is beautiful. There are plenty of walks straight from the camp site to the Loch side, woodland walks and some fantastic mountain bike routes!
The wee shop stocks a good supply of emergency products, you can get your gas refilled and they have recently opened a wee bar, which is a lovely addition.
All in all we would highly recommend this camp site.
