Stayed here for 10 days and have mixed reviews on the site, on arrival we checked in at reception in a very busy shop. We were shown our field to pitch in and away we went. After 10 mins of driving around we couldn't find a suitable pitch. This was the field right next to reception, where the gradient is quite steep. After a quick chat to the lad on reception he relocated us to the field furthest away by the entrance for the woodland walk.
After a beautiful 1st day we really had a tester of weather and the site did, torrential rains and high winds. I think this field could do with perhaps some better access routes to the pitches as people were struggling with cars.
Also there is only 1 water supply in field, with no hard standing area to collect on. You could only imagine the smell and mess. Facilities for chemical disposal are in the other field which was an arm breaker from where we were.
Perhaps the owners of nicholaston farm should think about another shower block for this field. Showers were ok for money, could of perhaps done with a family room perhaps.
Other than that I enjoyed my stay, Views from the field are lovely, but like I said its just a field. Don't think I will return here again.

Stayed on this site on many occasions now. The facilities are extremely clean. Showers 20p but you get 4 mins which is plenty. Some units have a toilet and washbasin which is great, but can mean queuing at busy times of the year. There is a shop and a cafe but we have never used either of these facilities so can't comment. Friendly, and helpful staff. Can walk from the campsite down into Oxwich bay.
On this occasion we arrived in a gale and were directed to a sheltered area of the site which was fine. Nearly all the pitches are on a slight slope which means you spend a lot of time adjusting your sleeping position!
Easy drive to all the lovely beaches on the Gower and into Mumbles.
We will undoubtedly stay on this site again, although it does get very busy and sometimes noisy in high season.

What makes this site is the views, the facilities are second to none, despite the 20p charge for 4 minutes showering.
The site shop/cafe was crowded sometimes with coastal path walkers. Local produce and pick your own fruit was very good.
The touring field was almost impossible to get on the day of our arrival, owing to the heavy rain.
If the concrete road, or tarmac surface could be extended to the touring field it would limit the damage to the grass and vehicles.
We managed up the touring field by reversing at speed up to the end of a track, didn't dare go on the grass.
More fresh water taps and grey water drainage required throughout the site would make life a lot easier.
Sat through the storm for 36 hours and headed for the beach which was fantastic.

Stayed here last week, do agree with most comments here, but I feel at £30 per night you are paying for the view you have from your van,
Toilets and showers are better than caravan club sites
The cafe on site is very good,
They could put water pipes up the top end of field as you have to pull aqua roll up steep gradient and that's my main reason together with the price I would not go there again.
The beach is only a few hundred yards away. The easy way to get there is to walk down the field through the gate, follow the coast path to the left for about 30 yards and then follow little path to the right, which will take you down through the sand dunes to the beach, where you can go right to oxwich beach or turn right to three cliffs bay which are both stunning.

A lovely site with amazing views, very clean toilets and showers and the campers breakfast a winner! Yes the showers are 20p but 4 minutes seems long enough. The beach is a steep walk from the site but the views make it worthwhile. We visited during the week when the site was very quiet but I understand it gets very busy during holiday periods and that may cause a problem with the lack of separate toilets. Tents and vans are spaced around the outside of the field which leaves the middle empty but other than that, there appears to be very little for children's entertainment. The site is dog friendly, in fact, friendly all round as the local villagers use the cafe and farm shop too and like a chat. The walk along the beach to Oxwich is a good couple of miles but the hotel at the end of the beach serves food and you can take dogs into the bar. The area is a national nature reserve, very well managed with a variety of different habitats. We are already planning our next visit!

Just got back form a long weekend at this site, and have to say its one of the nicest I've visited, toilet block and washing area are the best I've come across, clean, modern, and each cubicle has own sink, toilet & wash basin. 20p for 4 min shower is very reasonable, washing up facilities excellent, free freezers & fridges as well.
If you get the right pitch views are excellent across Oxwich bay. Hard standing pitches are good but not totally grass free, that didn't worry me however, the caravan site is on a hill but not difficult to level your van.
Only one thing to note, the exit onto the main road is on a steep hill, and difficult to see oncoming traffic both ways, especially trying to haul a caravan out.
But don't let this put you off, its a wonderful place, and I will be visiting again shortly.

We visited the site on the strength of previous reviews. The site is a short walk from a huge stretch of beach - and yes, as already noted, it is a steep climb on the way back. We also walked in in the other direction, ie through the gate at the bottom and turn left. We only walked for half an hour or so before turning back as short of time, but lovely views and we would liked to have gone further, and down to the lovely beaches (very secluded in October!). As to the site, toilet and shower facilities good, yes there is a 20p charge for the showers, but I found 4 mins plenty long enough. Please note that the cafe and farm shop are not open at this time of year - I think they reopen at Easter - which was a shame. The nearest shop is a long walk, as my poor husband found out! The hardstandings are OK, but not hardstandings of the type seen on caravan club sites! The grass was quite long, and needed a cut but presumably they don't worry too much about it out of season. If we return, it will be for the location rather than the site itself.

Stayed over August bank holiday weekend. It's a pleasant site but over-crowded - although most campsites seem to be on what must be the busiest camping weekend of the year.
I thought the toilets, showers and washing up, washing, drying facilities were very good. They were kept clean and I rarely had to queue, especially in the caravan field.
We camped in the lower field, which is down a short road. I did think the site was over-crowded, there was no space for our kids to play safely without being on the vehicle track or invading other campers' space. The site also lacks any features for them to climb or play on, so was harder to help them entertain themselves at the site.
It would have been useful to have marked pitches to evenly space tents out a bit and maybe ensure some free space.
Lovely walk down to amazing beaches. There's nowhere better to be than the Gower in good weather.
Not particularly quiet at night - the 10. 30pm quiet time wasn't observed or enforced.

We spent 6 nights at Nicholaston farm late August 2011. I had already read many of the reviews on here so knew what to expect, and I can really only repeat much of what has already been said.
The location of the site is it's main asset, I think. It's about 2-300 yards from the sea, and we could see the sea from our tent, as we were near the top of one of the fields.
The walk to the beach is down about 100 steps, not steep, and then across the sand dunes. Sand is difficult to walk across at the best of times, and if you're laden with chairs, buckets and spades, etc it will take you a good 10 minutes to get to the beach, but what a beach! Flat, golden sand for about 2 miles.
We visited some other beaches in the Gower and they are all excellent. Three cliffs bay is well worth a visit also, just to see the amazing scenery of the beach, but it is a long walk from the nearest parking. We parked near the heritage centre and it was about a 30 minute walk.
Back to the site - all the 3 fields are sloping but it is possible to find a nearly flat pitch in each field. The showers and toilets are plentiful. There was nearly always a queue at the block opposite the shop, but never one in the caravan field where there are many more rooms.
I would repeat the point that many have posted, that a mop in the showers for visitors use would be handy. Even though the showers were cleaned several times per day - there was always a cleaner there - it isn't enough, and more often than not, the floor of the cubicle would be muddy or sandy. Not their fault, of course, but for those people who don't want to walk on it in their bare feet, a mop would suffice.
I found that the 4 minutes allowed for your 20p in the shower was not enough. I have virtually no hair and found I had to really rush to wash may hair and shower all over in 4 minutes. Most people will find they'll have to pay 40p per shower which is a bit excessive.
We hardly used the shop. Apart from ice creams, pasties and breakfasts, it has a very limited range of essentials, such as bread, cereals and milk but little else. Some camping essentials would be a good idea.
All in all, we enjoyed our visit, especially the location, and would probably come back again.

A fantastic site! Fantastic views. Fantastic facilities. Fantastic area.
The view is of the beach and over to Devon - Look out at lighthouses and passing ships and loads of shooting stars at night. The beaches and walks around are amazing (just a very long pull up across the dunes back to the site. Caravans round the outside of the large field, so plenty of room for the children to play / make friends in the middle.
They're the best facilities - several different (immaculately clean) toilet and shower blocks (big shower rooms to change in too!) and some toilets / showers that aren't designated to ladies or gents, allowing you to shower children of both sexes comfortably. (20p for 4 mins). There's even an outdoor shower for wetsuits etc
Apart for the excellent cafe and food provisions on site, you have to travel to other villages for shops (nearest Chip shop closes early - don't get caught out!) Nearby garage seems to sell everything!
Only warning is the approach road to Penmaen, which can be narrow at times and several caravans have come to grief on a high wall there. Beware!
