CHECK IN - The check-in and out was quick and painless, (deposit of 10 pounds required for security gate, returned at end of stay, spent mine in the lovely cafe on site, yummy ice creams!)
THE PITCHES - There are 2 tent fields to choose from one nearer the cafe and the other nearer the path to the sea. You are able to choose where you pitch your tent, so groups can be together. The site was sloping - where isn't on The Gower, however it was not a problem, and it means that there are open spaces for the kids to play.
THE BEACH - It is a walk to the beach several steps down, across the dunes and wow - what a beach miles of beautiful sandy beache, plenty of space for everyone.
Then the walk back! however I felt that at least I was geting some exercise. There are many routes up and on one the kids found a tree swing, underfoot is sandy so always a soft if somewhat messy landing.
My kids are 9 and 6 and enjoyed the freedom of heading off to the toilets, tree swing and the cafe with their pocket money by themselves, without a worry of security or road traffic (don't know if I would feel the same during the pick you own season with non campers on site. )
TOILETS AND SHOWERS - The toilets and shower facities are very modern, and new, regularly cleaned, and reading a review above, ok sometimes the floor was a bit muddy (yes a floor wiper would help if people willing to wipe after themselves, I wouldn't mind) but we are camping in fields right, this is not a hotel. Yes the showers are 20p but this gives you 3. 5/4 mins for very hot water with good flow, (never found it cold even at peak times), and stopped there being very long queues with people spending too long, so I thought it was a good idea. There are toilet and shower facilities by the cafe and also in the caravan field (these tended to be a bit quieter as a bit further away from the tents. )
FRIDGES/FREEZERS - There are 3 large upright fridges and 3 large chest freezers, which are free to use, my advise is bring several iceblocks to make a mini fridge by your tent as it is a bit of a walk if you forget the milk for your coffee! and have a brightly coloured bag so you can spot which is yours. P. S no alcohol in fridges!
WASHING UP - There are two washing up rooms, both very clean and with 4-6 sinks, and a supply if black bins liners available for rubish. There was recycling on site but this was not an enforcement.
WASHING/DRYING - There is one large washing machine, which cost 3 pounds and takes 45 mins (often a queue, however I was luck on my 2nd attempt after leaving my bag down by the machine)
There are 2 large dryers, which are very efficient and I dried all my stuff in 10 mins (40p) and for those things that cant be tumble dried there is a drying cupboard which costs 1pound for 120 mins, which dried boots and fleeces perfectly
ATMOSPHERE - We stayed for 6 days and we loved this site, (even on the 3 rainy days) the staff were all friendly and helpful with local knowledge. We met fellow campers who were so friendly and thoughtful, and hope that we might meet them again on our next visit. The facilities were great, and all that we needed. So for our 3rd camping experience the 1st that I would return too. My kids loved it too, so happy kids = happy mum
Finally 2 quick tips -
1) Caswell bay is a lovely alternative beach great for those with kids, with a bit more shelter, surrounded by rocks, lifeguard station, a cafe (great cappuccinos) and shops, and parking and outside showers across the road, with only a few steps down to the beach, (parking is 1. 30/hr, 2. 50/2 hrs or 5/day)
2) especially for a rainy day which I was given too late, so can't comment on the quality, - The Gower Holiday Park, has an heating indoor pool, with sauna and jacuzzi, and I was told cost 2. 50 for kids and 3or 4 pounds for adults.
Sorry a P. S (or tip no 3!) you should definitely visit Mewslade bay (just before rhossili) for amazing rock formation and rock pools, it kept my kids happy for several hours even though it was a dull and sometimes rainy day! (avoid high tide as no beach)

The people who run it could not have been more helpful, and bent over backwards to help us when we found ourselves in a predicament.
The facilities were fantastic - fridge & freezer were both available for use, and an excellent washing up room. Showers were definitely worth 20p a go, as they were hot, spacious and clean.
Location - just a short walk down to beautiful Oxwich bay, plus fantastic views and scenery from the campsite itself.
Shop/cafe on site was a bonus. We will definitely visit again.
Thanks also to the reviewer who recommended a visit to Joe's ice-cream cafe in Mumbles! Ice-cream sundaes were to die for!

Spent 3 nights in tent. Excellent location, beeches and walks in Gower peninsula fabulous, and relatively quiet even in school hols. Site has 3 fields, 2 for tents/campers and 1 for caravans.
Showers 20p for 3. 5-4mins which feels a minute too little. 2 wet rooms by reception nice size but often have to queue, 4 shower cubicles OK, but you have to go outside to put in your 20p and with only 4mins don't want to then waste a minute of that taking clothes off.
The wet rooms got very wet and muddy, it seems providing a mop and bucket for campers to use might be a cheap solution that would improve the facility.
Field we were in was nice although a fairly sizeable slope to pitch on, and could hear the traffic from the A road (although there was actually none really after 11pm).
You are allowed to pitch where you want, which sounds nice but we ended up between 2 tents with people who wanted to be next to one another (arrived a day apart) and made us feel very uncomfortable. I think that assigning set pitches might actually work better. Also, as they have 2 fields for tents, perhaps they could have one as a ball-free area which visitors can choose if so desired.
Overall, nice area, decent site, OK facilities, some basic problems that could be easily remedied. The pick your own on-site is to be recommended.

A truly perfect campsite. We stayed here to watch the Swansea air show.
Facilities are excellent, showers and toilets are very private and you have your own little shower room. Showers are 20p.
The site is sloping but gives everyone a fantastic view. Pick your own is great with the kids and the beach is just stunning which can be walked in under 10 minutes.
Location is great, only 15 minutes to Swansea and the mumbles where you can enjoy a Joes ice cream !
Could not fault any part and cannot wait to return.

Have just returned from a 2 night break on the Gower and thought this campsite was great.
Fabulous views over Oxwich bay and was lovely to be able to walk to a beautiful sandy beach without taking the car.
The tent was on a slight slope but was not a problem. We thought the facilities were good although a long walk to the loo! Was slightly worried having read about 4 minute 20p shower but these were better than on many sites with free 'hot showers'!
The children loved going strawberry picking on Sunday Morning and the staff were happy for us to leave the car on the camping field. We would recommend the site to any one.

Nicholaston is lovely. Been there a few times. Good value for money. The staff are lovely.
The facilities are adequate and spotless. Its useful to have communal fridges and freezers and the showers are always clean and decent if you have at least 3 x 20p to hand.
There is a small shop/cafe on site with lovely smoothies and ice creams. You may have to pitch on a slope if you go when it's busy but the beautiful wooded walk through sand dunes and wild flowers down the the beach is what makes it so very special.
Not to mention the rope swing which is something else as far as all kids are concerned.
There is also pony trekking nearby and 3 cliffs bay is also a nice and pretty short cliff top walk directly from the site.
If it rains swansea is a short drive away and for kids it has the excellent new leisure centre.

Yes, it's scenic. Yes, it's slopey. Yes, the loos are shiny and the showers are short.
Furthermore, the Inbetweeners were there in a Tesco tent and a group of marauding 8 year olds kicked a football into my canopy and knocked over my gas stove.
But, oh. The lemon meringue ice cream in the shop! You must visit just to taste that! (Actually the apple pie ice cream was pretty good too).
It made up for me almost having a coronary after walking back from the beach.
It was generally clean and there was lots of opportunity to do people watching.
On the whole, I liked it.

Just returned from a 3 day break and found the site a great place to stay, despite one of the wettest nights we have ever seen. The toilets and showers were immaculate and the drying facilities came in very handy.
The 'big boy breakfast' went down well with all and we found the owners and staff highly co-operative despite having to deal with the torrent flowing down their road. We would definitely recommend the site for a peaceful relaxing stay. If there were any minor niggles it would be that a few more basic provisions ie toiletries could be stocked in the shop as the nearest large supermarket is in Swansea. Just a tip, if you need to get cash out, use the local post offices as the cash machines that are anywhere near the site charge for withdrawals.
All in all we had a great stay and will be booking again shortly.

Just got home from a one night stay at the site. After having trouble with another site in the gower over deposits we came across this site.
We were first very impressed by the friendliness of the staff in reception who got us checked in within five minutes. The site is on an incline but if I was honest it wasn't to bad.
The showers and toilets are of high quality and are cleaned throughout the day. There is a shop on site that you are able to buy drinks and also meat for a BBQ.
There is also a Cafe on site where you can have cooked meals which is nice to wake up to! Site is also a ten minute walk from a very nice beach! Overall I very nice stay! highly recommend!

Just back from 3 nights at this site. Unfortunately we had just moved on from the superlative site at Pitton Cross so it was a hard act to follow!
The sloping site was an issue for us newbie campers. We had no chocks from our trailer tent and were lucky to find a flattish pitch at the top of the field next to the PYO lane but even so we parked the car in front of the tent in case we were to start rolling downhill in the night! Many of the pitches would have been completely unmanageable for us.
The facilities were beautifully done out but I don't like the arrangement of individual rooms with shower, loo and small basin which was the case for most of the facilities at this site. It makes it annoying if you just want the loo and they're all full with people showering, the sinks are too small for a wash (and there was nowhere to put your things) and the floors are constantly wet from the shower. Plus I don't really want to be cleaning my teeth next to a loo (with no lid) that someone has recently used!
The showers cost 20p for 4 mins (or 3 1/2 in the men's) and I can confirm that it is possible to shower an adult and 2 small children in approx 5 mins - although trying to keep the towels off the wet floors afterwards was more of a challenge!
The toilets seemed to be cleaned several times a day.
The facilities next to Reception always had a queue at peak times, but those just round the corner in the caravan field were usually available. It's all a fair walk from where we were pitched.
The coffee shop on site was priced to its captive market, I think, with prices around £2.80 for a bacon bap. There was a selection of fruit, veg and other food items, as well as a few dried goods.
The walk to the beach is a 10 min hike down steps and over dunes - not buggy or lazy child friendly at all - but the fantastic beach is worth the effort. It is also worth driving to Oxwich Beach at the far end of the bay as you can park next to the beach (£3) and there are loos and a refreshments area.
We had a couple of excellent meals at the King Arthur Hotel about 10 mins away which was good as there were tables outside for those of us with dogs!
The campsite was dog friendly, and most of them were well behaved, apart from the inevitable lone barker!
