Absolutely cracking site. The views are great and the owners are really, really helpfull. The site is on quite a big slope but the owners supplied us with wood to level the caravan and even pulled us off the hill when leaving with a tractor. The facilities were always very clean and there were plenty of them with seperate facilities for the large camping fields. Road at top of site but hedges hide this and not noisy atall. It was going to be windy one night (gales) and the owners even came around to pre warn us should we wish to take down the awning. The wood at the bottom of the site is great for kids with a fantastic rope swing with a sand base.the walk to the beach is through the wood and sand hills but this is a hard walk back up for those with weak legs.the walk is well worth it to the beach as it is fantastic. Good swimming/rock pools/ sheltered coves and plenty of sand. There were several groups enjoying bbq's and beach fires into the night along the beach. We tried it one night an it was lovely. It is also very quiet even in summer. The nearest pub is a bit of a trek but there is a mill about 1 mile away which has great themed nights on a night through the summer. Try and go to the barn dance. Its a hoot and the kids loved it too as there is a watermill museum which they keep open and its cheap as well. Besides the hill which adds character to the place anyway this has got to be the best site on the Gower. Centrally located for the mumbles in the east or rhossili in the west. The site has a lovely cafe as well which does lovely smoothies and nice breakfasts. They also have freezers and a laundry. I know its pot luck but all the campers and caravanners were decent well behaved people during our stay. Most of the caravanners were couples or families.

This is the second time we have vistied Nicholaston, and we continue to be impressed. The toilet blocks and showers are spotlessly clean, and there is plenty of hot water. Hair dryers are available at 20p per go, and there is also a power point which I saw someone using straighteners in. (Long gone are the days of looking like Worzel Gummidge when camping!)
The cafe and shop are well stocked, the staff friendly and helpful and the home made ice cream delicious. Fridges, freezers are free to use, and there are dryers available for a small fee.
We were in the lower field this time, so had a small walk to the facilities, but this was fine, although we did struggle a bit to find a pitch that was not on a slope. The first night a large group of campers on the hill got a bit rowdy, and played charades until after midnight, but after this all was well, quiet and our neighbouring campers very sociable and friendly.
The Gower is simply breathtaking, with beautiful views and unbeatable beaches. Our children loved the walk down through the woods, past the fabulous rope swing & over the dunes to reach the beach which was practically empty. You can walk along the beach to Oxwich where we bought a boogie board and some provisions from the small shop. Some of the cliff top walks are wonderful, and the scenery is fabulous.
All in all a wonderful stay, and we will definitely be back next year.

A superb campsite at the time of year we visited, they saved a level plot for us as we had friends in a tent that we wanted next to us so they could use the caravan facilities for their new baby.
The views are wonderful both down to the sea and also to the unspoilt hills behind. The site is well kept and the facilities (though not the best laid out we have used) are superbly clean, and well kept. The cafe/shop even this close to the end of the season served an excellent breakfast at very reasonable cost.
The walk down to the beach is not too bad but don't carry too much as you will regret it on the way back, the easy way to the beach is to go to the Oxwich car park and walk along, you can walk all the way to Three Cliffs bay on firm sand and with relatively few people about once you leave Oxwich beach behind. The Gower beaches are superb and ideal for kite buggying and kite boarding, so long as you are careful and courteous to other beach users! Don't give our sport a bad name and get us banned.
The only small fly in the ointment was a wedding reception one night in a marquee in the next field, which entailed music till late and fireworks, although the fireworks were more visual than noisy, (my dogs are terrified of fireworks), and it would have been beneficial to have been forewarned at the time of booking or when the reception was set up,so that we could have taken some sedatives or other action for the dogs.As it was it didn't spoil the holiday, we have no regrets about picking this site, and we will always stay there again on our returns to the Gower, (We have stayed at two other sites on the Gower, one of which has now overpriced itself as far as we are concerned).
The site has electric hookups and waste water/chemical loo disposal, and very handily for campers in tents, free freezing facilities for your ice-packs.
Keep up the good work and friendly service, we'll be back!

We've been to this site several times now - and we'll be back again! Toilets & washing facs have always been top notch & it's a lovely place for the kids to run around. The whole site is on a bit of a slope - but we've had worse. The on-site shop / cafe is excellent - recommend the smoothies!
The main factor though is the beach, one word. Stunning!

I agree with the previous review. Location is perfect. Countryside beautiful. Lots of good walks of different types (beach, woods, dunes, cliffs). Campsite has excellent facilities for showering, toilets and washing up. Field we were in is sloping in places. Now the not so good bit. Went to Nicholaston because I wanted a quiet site. It advertises itself as this and has rules at the entrance to each field. For example, No barbecues after 22:00 no noise after 22:30 and all dogs must be kept on a lead. The trouble is they do not enforce this. I saw no evidence of staff patrolling our field at any time There was considerable general noise all around until gone midnight (e.G.A loud tv in a frame tent on every night until midnight). People walking their dogs gone 23:00 (here jenny, sit jenny, stay jenny - at top of voice!) Many dogs were roaming freely around the site pooing and peeing. Somewhere close there was a dog that barked incessantly throughout the night on at least two nights. Not sure if it was on the site or close to it. Yes and it is unrestricted where people pitch. When I was leaving two cars turned up with at least 8 people and proceeded to pitch two large tents in the space I was leaving with just 1 tent and 1 car. They were pitching right next to campers on either side. They did not have a clue and couldn't even wait for me to finish and pack up. Big shame as Nicholaston could potentially be a great site.

Is was a really lovely and well managed site. It was very busy when we visited but everyone was really respectful in the evening and we had three very quiet and peaceful nights. I got the feeling that people who want peace and quiet actively seek this site out – partygoers camp elsewhere! The top field is by the ‘main’ road, so you do get traffic noise. However, this is compensated for by the direct access to the quieter side of Oxwich bay, and to the largest area of open access land in the Gower. From the top field you have views of the hill behind, and of the estuary and Devon coastline in front. Okay, you can’t see the beach from the campsite, but if you want great coastlines and peace and quiet Nicholaston is a very good place to stay.
The toilets and showers were very well maintained, but be prepared to queue. Each toilet block has four toilets and two showers (in the ladies, two of the toilets have a sink and shower, one has a sink, and one is toilet only, with two sinks and a hairdryer outside the cubicles). There is also a separate shower block, so the queues are for the loos not the showers. I had no problem with the showers. You get 4 minutes for 20p and the water was hot. The farm shop was very good with fresh produce and they bake their own bread. We didn’t use the café but it looked good. You can also get fruit smoothies and ice cream.
The site is mostly on a slope, and I found myself sliding to the bottom of the tent as my sleeping bag is quite slippery. You pitch where you like, which can lead to problems but generally people were sensible. I think it would be better if there was a separate area for cars, as it would free up the flatter areas of the site for tents. We got a £2pn discount for not having a car, which was a pleasant surprise, and it’s really easy to get about by public transport. The bus drivers were all really helpful and made sure visitors got off at the right stops. But make sure you have a timetable and don’t expect the buses to turn up on time! Access to the beach is by a steep sandy path, which turns into a sand dune at the bottom. It really is worth it, but it would be a struggle for those with mobility problems. At the other end of the bay is a nice pub. It’s an easy two mile walk. We got to some of the other pubs by a combination of walking and busing. If you want a drink in the evening and don’t want to drive, the only option is the pub at Oxwich bay, as buses don’t run in the evenings and the main roads are not suitable for walkers. An excellent site and an excellent location – I can’t wait to go back!

Just spent a week at this campsite and had a great time but. Please be a bit clearer as to where people should pitch. Yes it is nice as there are no regimental pitches but it is crazy, you go out for the day and when you return a tent is almost touching yours (in our case a whole noisy village had obviously all come on holiday together and thought they would take over the whole field not nice!) Camping to me is respecting fellow camper have fun yes but think of others. What happened to the rule as on others campsites where you have to be 4metres away from your neighbours????? Even if they said park your car on the right hand side of your tent would help. Also found there were lots of dogs and a few were not on leads maybe things should be a bit clearer when you book in as the rules state dogs on leads at all times. Other than that honest great place fab fridge/freezer facility's although sorry must say three of the showers I had were either not working, a dribble of water or my favorite was an ice cold one glad the weather was hot. Nice shop and the staff I found them very helpful. Fab beaches all on the gower found a great one called Fall bay always quiet. Yes its a bit of a workout to the beach and back but its worth it. It gets a wow every time.

This is a very nice site if you can find a flat bit. Very good, clean toilets and facilities etc and a handy little cafe / shop on site that shuts in the evening. Very friendly, helpful staff. Fantastic natural beaches a short (steep) walk away. No bar or food available in the evening and don't be fooled into trying to walk to one of the pubs as we did. They may be 'within easy reach of the site' but they all involve a trek of about 2 - 3 miles just to get to them, at times along a road that was described to me by a local as "suicidal to walk along". The pub which is a walk along the beach is at the far end of Oxwich Bay, 2 miles as the crow flies. The best pub is the King Arthur, good food and drink. If you intend to visit any of the local pubs its best to use your car, its safer than walking but, of course, don't drink and drive.

A lovely site. Plenty of room for my 9 man tent. Also plenty of room for children to run around and play in the field, although no actual children's play park. Showers ( 20p for about 3 minutes - water always hot ) and toilets very clean. Dish washing room also clean and adequate. Fridges / freezers available for your use. Lovely little farm shop / cafe selling essentials. Also serves homemade food to eat in or take away. Laundry facilities available. A pleasant walk down through the woods to a fantastic beach. A bit steep and quite hard work walking back up though - but certainly worth it. I would definitely recommend this site and would certainly visit again.

This is a lovely site with frequently cleaned shower / toilet areas which are of a high standard. The washing up area is also ideal. The shop sells fresh fruit and essentials - it also has a coffee shop (and does cooked breakfasts if that takes your fancy). The access to the fields is controlled by electronic barriers to which you are allocated a key. The owners are extremely helpful and pleasant - nothing is too much trouble (we needed our caravan to be towed off the field as it is as described 'gently sloping').
