Stayed here mid week, 3 night stay. Lovely level grass and gravel pitches, plenty of space for the caravan, awning and car parking on your pitch. Water points were in good supply throughout the site. Owners were welcoming and gave me a quick guide of where everything was. Lovely little play area for children and a great games room with air hockey, pool tables and football game. The room also has a vending machine for a few treats. The Black Bull Public House is virtually on the site and serves a good pub menu. Children and dogs welcome. Toilet and shower facilities were spotless and the pot washing facilities looked good for campers. You can hear a little road noise from the pitches but its not excessive considering it is off the main road to Malton and so has the advantage of being very central for all the attractions in the area. All in all a great little site for getting out and about from.

Excellent site, well laid out with privacy hedges between plots (some still need to grow a little). The site was very clean and very well maintained.
We received a warm welcome and the site managers were very helpful throughout our stay.
The children's play area kept our two amused for hours although its location near the main entrance is not ideal.
The facilities we used were clean and well maintained. The showers were hot, my only minor complaints being that the shower timer was too short at about 30 seconds and the water pressure shot hot water under the shower curtain onto unsuspecting shoes and jeans.
The small shop was well priced, selling essential camping items.

Stayed at this site many times always enjoyed our visits toilets clean site well look after. Close to Pickering shops and then east coast. They is a nice pub just out side the site serving very good pub grub. The only down side is such a long walk to empty your water waste and toilet. Next to the toilet block as you enter the site and for a family of four £26 per night is a lot to pay for this site now sorry.

Brilliant site, excellent pitches, excellent showers and toilets, friendly and helpful, small shop on site, games room, 150m long dog walking lane attached, good pub with cask ales and good food at reasonable prices just at the entrance to the site. Easy walking distance to Pickering with the steam railway, castle, lots of shops and pubs. Good base for touring the area and quite close to Flamingo Land. Really well appointed site, will certainly visit again.

Just returned from the Easter weekend break at this campsite. Although relatively new to camping, this is the best site we have stayed at. The owners were very welcoming and had time to chat whenever you were passing.
The pitches are flat and very spacious. The whole site is clean and tidy and the shower block, washing facilities are spotless. We were happy to let our ten year old roam around the site and he kept himself busy playing on the park, in the games room or on the football pitch. Always had warm water for showers and washing up and the reception shop came in handy from time to time. Prices in the shop (as well as the vending machine in the games room) were cheap compared to other sites I have stayed at. You can also order newspapers in the shop. There is a pub (Black Bull) at the entrance to the site which do great meals and welcome families and pets.
A local Fish and Chip van comes to the site on Saturday and Monday evenings which was good. A few minutes drive into nearby town of Pickering where you can catch the steam train to whitby. Local attractions (Flamingo land, Eden Camp etc) are about 10-15mins drive, with Scarborough being about 30mins away.
All in all an excellent weekend break even though the weather was probably coldest Easter on record. We didn't let this put a downer on things. Have booked to return in May.

We stayed at Black Bull caravan site between the 14th and 19th march 2013 and would like to say how much we enjoyed our stay. Although the weather did it's best to make us feel unwelcome the owners certainly didn't. We were greeted warmly at reception and we couldn't believe the size of our pitch, our motorhome looked lost on it!
The owners were always on hand to offer help and advise, and they are motorhome owners themselves, so I would suggest any motorhome owners looking for a site on the edge of the Yorkshire moors to give this site a visit, you won't be disappointed.
The shower blocks are a good size and spotlessly clean, and there are washing machines and dryers on hand which was handy for us because drying towels in the weather we had was impossible!
At the site entrance is a decent pub with a welcoming log fire and good food and beer, including 2 Sunday carvery lunches for £10!
Pickering is about a 30 minute walk away and there is a bus stop right outside the site which allowed us a visit to whitby. The road into Pickering has twin BP petrol stations either side of the road, which means you can drive there to fill up and come straight back without having to negotiate any town traffic, always a bonus.
All in all I would highly recommend this site, it has a lot going for it. Nice owners, good pitches, good location and a pub virtually on site. We moved on to another site after the Black Bull but it wasn't the same, some sites just 'feel' right and the Black Bull was one those sites for us at least. Give it a try and see if you feel the same.

Very well used site not too many empty pitches. The only downside was the distance to the toilet especially at night. Not a good experience. Youngsters had a room with a pool table and the usual games, to go to but ended up 'trashing' the toilets instead. The nights were quite chilly and the lovely daytime loos are still heated at night and then became a playground. Felt very sorry for the cleaners and those that had to use them. This made the site a very unpleasant place to be in the evenings. The site is split between static and tourers, the tourers were all in their units and being quiet whilst the noise and disruption came from the static end of the site. The dog walk was a short path behind the touring pitches with an entrance for the static residents at the top of this, on this site it seems if you have a static van you are allowed to let your dog off the lead. This did become troublesome and alarming at times with some dogs becoming aggressive as well as their owners. It is a shame as the site is nice but again its the people that let it down. Doubt that I would return.

This was our first visit to the site, we stayed for 3 weeks and have had a fab time; the site is within easy reach of Scarbrough, Whitby, York and loads of lovely villages,
Pickering is about a 20 minute walk and has some lovely shops and pubs. The site itself is well maintained, clean toilets and showers, a small shop selling essentials (morrisons and asda just up road in Malton), and a games room and a children's playground, which we could not get our granddaughter off.
The pitches are massive, easy big enough for 2 units so you have pleanty of space to spread out. There is a pub at the entrance to the site, nice pint but did not rate the food much and did try it twice to make sure the first time wasn't a blip.
We will definitely be going back, oh and the site charges the same price regardless, including holidays and weekends, so that's good.

We stayed here over the August bank holiday weekend, unfortunately the weather was typical for a bank holiday weekend and we arrived at the end of a deluge which had temporarily flooded part of the site. Fortunately we were able to pitch on the car park. The managers were friendly and helpful throughout the weekend despite having to deal with several unhappy campers due to the weather. The site is flat throughout and is split into 3 parts, a touring section, seasonal pitches and the static caravans.
The toilet facilities are of a high standard and regularly cleaned. There is a good sized games room and a pub at the entrance to the site. There are facilities for recycling although unfortunately they don't seem to be used by everyone, but again the managers did an excellent job of keeping this area tidy. The prices are excellent value for money for a site of this standard.
The site is approximately halfway between York and Whitby both of which can be reached on the bus which passes the site. The main road going past the site is busy but didn't cause us a problem. We would love to stay there again.

Second visit. Phone up, booked it and paid £20 per pitch deposit. Paid balance on arrival. All good and easy done. This site doesn't charge extra for school holidays or bank holidays - a big plus in my book.
On arrival we were allocated pitch number 7, shown a map of where to go and advised how to pitch up. Staff are very friendly and always happy to help. We asked for nearby picnic areas and things to do and were advised of local places of interest.
Pitches are huge (length of van and car, and still room at the front). All pitches are divided by a line of trees with water access every 6 or 7 pitches.
Site has playground, games room and play field for children, a small shop stocking emergency supplies, toilets and showers, laundrette, pot washing area, chemical toilet disposal and a communal freezer for freezing ice packs. Be aware that all facilities are located near the entrance so if your pitch is at the rear of the site, there is a short distance to walk, however I don't mind a morning stroll to take in some fresh air. Toilets are cleaned at least twice daily (of what I saw) and are pretty spotless. A mop is located in the shower area for those who make a mess.
Pickering hosts a co-op supermarket and other shops for general supplies but site shop does store some supplies such as bread, milk etc
Approx 30 minutes walk (5 mins drive) from Pickering centre, a 20 minute drive to Scarborough or 30 minute drive to Whitby. Right in the middle of everywhere really. Pickering has a number of shops, castle and Monday market and hosts the start of the Yorkshire steam railway (a cross-moors route to whitby). I recommend a drive over the moors. The scenery is breath taking at times.
There is a pub at the entrance to the site which serves meals. Looks ok from outside but we didn't use this so cant comment.
Overall a great site, we will definitely be back
