This was our first family camping trip and the campsite came recommended by a friend.
I have to say I was completely satisfied and the kids (aged 5 and 7) loved it. Nice big park and a good games room with pool table, table tennis, air hockey, good value vending machine.
The showers were hot and free, the toilets were clean.
It was so good that I've booked for next year already.
The pitch size is very good. We stayed in our friends tent which is massive. Plus we parked two cars and we had a large space left to put up wind breakers for tables and chairs etc.

For first time campers an excellent experience. Was nervous to start with but soon got into it. Staff very helpful and friendly. Toilet and shower facilities excellent.
We stayed four nights and enjoyed the whole time. Half hour walk to pickering and bus routes to whitby excellent. North Yorkshire Moors Railway always a treat.
The black Bull pub was handy and had good beer. The most impressive thing was the quietness at night and the respect from other campers.
The pitch sizes were very large and hook up easy. Will return again. 5 stars.

Just had a short break at this lovely Caravan Park. The pitch size was Excellent, easy accommodating our large ten man family tent with EHU, with room for my car and trailer.
Toilets and showers were very clean at all times and very nice and modern. There is a small shop at reception selling the main things. The owners were very friendly at all times.
The near by pub is good for a pint and simple good food. I would say its a good base to discover the lovely local area. I will be back in the very near future.

Having just spent a week on this site with our touring caravan, hookup and dog I would like to add a few comments of my own.
First of all, Signs! Knowing the site and its location it was not a surprise to me but which ever direction you are coming from there is not enough information of site entrance. I know this is in hand.
On entry to the site which is nice and wide I pulled up on the now new Motor Home flushing point, not seeing the entrance to the field, Again maybe some sign or holding area, ie, Stop here and report to reception. This left me having to back up, Not a Problem as plenty of room.
Reception on arrival was polite with nice concern as our dog had not been well and immediate help and information regarding a local vet was offered as was concern for dogs well being. What I liked also was the small selection of basic needs that you might have run out of. Directed to our pitch and informed about toilet block code etc.
Found our pitch very easy to get onto. Hard standing, sometimes not my preference and where possible would have liked to have been offered grass. I did however feel very close to the caravan/awning behind us and would like to see an increase in separation distance. Not that I am unfriendly but there is room. Also due to the very poor winter weather the dividing hedging has in fact died and when this is well established will provide some more privacy.
Set up very quickly, Water easy accessible with fitted lengths of hose and generally a good pressure. Hookup points withing a very good distance from van and I would have been able to have used my short cable but I was finding the 10amp a bit binding until I worked out what I could have on at any one time. Generally either water heater or heating along with kettle and TV but unlike some sites it was easily reset and not a problem. Supply your Amperage chart as a hand out.
I had the need to visit the Toilet Block on arrival and this is how I judge a site. It was Very Clean and Tidy and the site was near full.
Dog walk provided and well cleaned up by owners but our dog was terrified of walking down it and it was daylight. Other walks are available by crossing the road and walking down past the golf coarse this takes you into farm tracks. The walk into Pickering is 30 min and along what can be a busy road but on a nice day its worth it.
Having used the Pub in the past it is an ideal location if you don't want to cook or fancy a night out. There is no noise and it can get busy but you wont know it.
The site has had a lot of recent investment and is still undergoing more. Once things like the 2500 trees and the hedging all establish this will soften the entrance. I would add at this point its up to the users to add our constructive comments as well.
This site I would say is very well situated for access to Pickering, Malton and with Scarborough,Whitby and York your no more than 30 min drive away. A good Park and ride service at Monks Cross (current cost £2.30 each)into York lets you park at ease, shop and visit till you drop then back to the car.
Lets not forget a very worth while attraction is Eden Camp and for the White Knuckle people there is Flamingo land and Zoo.
The NYMR steam railway is well worth the visit and a very nice run through country side and now that it take you all the way to Whitby well worth a full day out. Pickering also hosts various street events and is well worth gathering information for a full year.
Having visited this area on and off for the past 20 odd years I will say you will not be disappointed with your visit.
To sum up:
Site location I give 10.
Site Facilities I give 9 and I see this will improve with time.
Value I give 9, keep prices keen please.
Customer service I give 9, Stop and speak to site manager/ess they don't bite.
Child Friendly I give 8, a bit concerned at the location of play areas but stick to speed limit of 5 mph and all should be fine.
Overall I give 9. The views I share are may own. I would be more that happy to return here as a site of preference. The site is well maintained, Clean and generally tidy BUT its up to us to do our bit and help keep it that way.

Loved this site. Shower and toilet block kept very clean. Pub on site is child and dog friendly. Good food and beer.
Separate dog walking field. A huge field for kids to play football. A little playgrounds for younger ones. A playroom with games and pool table.
Only downside is its very close to the main road, but didn't bother us. Grounds kept lovely. Will be visiting again.
The site is an ideal base for exploring the coast and countryside.

Visited this site last year and returned again as we enjoyed it so much. There is a new entrance to the site now, you don't drive through the pub car park but just after the pub there is a wide entrance which makes access much easier.
Fresh baguettes are available, just order them 20 mins before you want them and they come fresh out of the oven. The weather forecast is put on the notice board daily.
Another addition this year is a motorhome service point, very handy as you don't need to take your grey water home with you its near the elsan point so you can kill two birds with one stone.
The wardens are always very chatty and friendly with everyone and helped us with our water pump which seemed to be sticking. There isn't very much lighting on the park, which to me isn't an issue, who wants lights everywhere, camping wouldn't be camping without a torch.
The park has 10 amp electric hook ups, so if you don't have the microwave, toaster and kettle on all at the same time there's no problem.
There is a bus service outside the site but only runs every hour ,we missed it so walked into Pickering which took 25 mins, there is a garden centre you can stop off at half way there and have a coffee and also a car boot sale on a Sunday.
We had a very restful 5 days and will be back later in the year

To be honest it wasn't what we had hoped.
Firstly though, this site is in a very good location for the local area, ideally placed for pickering and nearby Malton.
Site was well maintained, and very clean, shower blocks and toilets also well maintained.
Site has a dogwalk, which in the dark the touring site wasn't well lit, we had to use torches, but this wasn't much of a problem.
However, I must comment that in 2 years of touring, I have never felt so unwanted or uncomfortable on a caravan park.
Upon arrival, we were told were our pitch was, I was outside in the car with the dog and was getting glared at by a man who worked on the park.
The next few days we never had a hello, morning or nothing, the park staff (or owners I'm unsure) just came across unfriendly towards us.
Disappointing I would say, and we couldn't quite put our finger on what the problem was, were a young male couple enjoying our hobby, yet we were made to feel unwelcome.
For this reason we wont be returning, however as a site we would recommend for the location and country views.

I have been to the black bull site twice and have re-booked for this September,
The pub meals are good the location is great for turning right at Pickerings island for Scarborough or straight on for Whitby we spent a day in both then returned for a few beers and a meal.
If you are into golf then just across the road is a course.
Just a word of warning when you go through the car park keep to the right, just before the booking in office, because it's a tight right ender for your van to go through the gates

We booked this site as it had been highly recommended by fellow Caravaners, all have raved about the facilities and the site, and it had glowing reviews, and we thought this would be perfect place to introduce our friends to the world of caravanning, this was their first outing in their new van. However, I am afraid I left the site feeling quite underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, there was nothing actually wrong with the site itself, it was just OK, and I can’t quite put my finger on why I left feeling like this:
I am not a picky camper by any stretch, however perhaps it was that when we pulled up off the busy main road we pulled onto a temporary road surface (not the campsites fault – but surely a little warning), was it because I was not greeted in the friendly manner I am accustomed to from the CC & CCC wardens, or was it that one of the first things that was said to me was under no circumstances must I go on the grass with the car (this was due to it being boggy and understandably and rightly so, they wanted to preserve the grass for the campers, but make me feel welcomed first). We were advised to unhitch and push the van into place, Michael the warden/owner bless him must have ached in the morning, as he very kindly help push our van into place (and I am sure he had done this for all the other vans on site) with the help of a my husband, a fellow motorhomer and myself,
Was it the fact that the facilities although immaculate and warm with added security of a coded door are situated at the top end of the site with no lighting on a very dark campsite and I fretted over my heavily pregnant friend getting there safely? Possibly, it could have been the play area although again immaculate, and full of just what my 16 month old girl and 4 year old friends son wanted, it was at the entrance of the site, next to the entrance / exit road, on arrival we had to enter with caution and stop as 2 young girls ran out into the road (could a gate help? certainly). Perhaps it was the fact that the ampage advertised at 10amp seemed a lot lower, I had to run my fridge on battery, boil the kettle on gas,and I couldn’t use my inbuilt low wattage microwave to warm my daughters bottles and food, and had to have the heating on very low which was not ideal when you have a little one and it’s biting cold outside, I couldn’t even dry my hair with my low wattage travel hairdryer and my poor husband was on constant “I’ve tripped the electric again Rob” duty. Yes I think that could be it, helped by the not so friendly Black Bull pub (not owned by the campsite) just in front of the site, open 12-3 and 6-11 advertising a plethora of guest beers, but actually only having one on, and this they had run out of, then my 16 month being told off for running about the pub by the manager – really! It was empty we were the only ones in, and to be fair how much running around can a 16month old do?
The hardstanding pitches are of a really good size, with plenty room for unit, awning and car, each pitch is separated by a hedge which is great for the “this is my pitch that is yours” scenario. Water points are at chest level which makes for tricky aqua roll filling.
The games room was not used as it had a van parked in the doorway all weekend so we couldn’t access it. I just think for the price you pay £18 per night (1 unit 2 adults, ELHU, under 5s free and no extra charge for awning), you’d get more for your money.
I would recommend this Site for tents and motorhomes as these tend to use less electricity, and are more self-sufficient, and for the older couple looking for a short stay to access the lovely Yorkshire moors, Whitby, Pickering and Malton and York.

Lovely site-arrived late and owner very friendly and helped us with our electric hook up as we are new to motorhoming.
Pub served nice food and beer although busy on Saturday night.Karaoke in pub very entertaining!
Walked into Pickering and took us 30 mins and got taxi back for £5.
Close to N Yorkshire Moors Railway and took trip to Grosmont and Whitby with day ticket from Pickering Station.
Overall, good location and facilities. Close to busy road though.
Toilets/showers fine and clean with coded door.
Cost us £20 per night with electric (2 adults and one child-dog stayed free)
Very nice site and would recommend it.
