Stayed for a week, great location to visit outlaying areas. Facilities first rate though a bit of legwork required. The pub complex, you can book a chalet style room for granny to babysit, offered a great buffer from road noise as well as a good meals.
Though I stayed on the caravan side of the site, I took great interest in the tented side which was well drained and the grass looked in great condition, there was a really great children's play area on site, as well as another by the pub where you can keep an eye on the little ones whist having a snack and a drink or two, a very dark site, great for star gazing, the only lit up area was the wash up and laundry/toilet block, which was perhaps an upside to them being a good way off, (behind a bank of trees/shrubs), so a torch is a must.
The only down sides are,
1. That it more than just a short walk into Pickering alongside a busy main road with no evidence of a nice peacefully walk in the immediate locality.
2. The other downside was that the layout of one row of vans at the back of another actually put our awning back to back with another van and it turned out to be a little too close for comfort

A lovely site!
Lovely helpful staff.
The facilities were very clean and tidy, as was the site itself. The small shop stocked a few camping essentials.
It is quite a walk into Pickering, but a nice walk if the weather is good. The Beck Isle museum is worth a vist and watching the steam trains is a must.
The site has a lovely play area for children close to the pitches, which is safe and secure for little ones.
The site does not allow ball games near the pitches but they do have a nice little field suitable for ball games and a games room to occupy older children.
The pub at the front of the site is worth a visit, Good beer, warm welcome and simple food.
As our first time camping we found the site better than expected and we will be visiting again soon.

We spent a very pleasant weekend with some friends at the beginning of September. Black bull has a flat field allowing a mix of tents on a spacious flat well drained grass and hardstanding for caravans. They tend to be pitched opposite each other with a gravel drive up the centre of the long field.
The toilets and showers are cleaned to a very high standard, four of each for ladies, assume this is the same for the fella's. They were free and hot, opposite is the chemical toilet disposal and recycling facilities. There is a dog walk which runs parallel to the tent field down an avenue of high trees and bushes, there are dog poo bins located on the walk.
There is an updated play area, as well as a games room with table tennis, balls available for 20p and opportunity to buy your own bats if you want. As well as two pool tables, table football, a couple of vending machines, some board games, TV and couple of sofa's.
There are also static caravans but these are to the rear of the site and the Black Bull pub is on the main road.
The owners identified that due to problems over the season, they were definitely not taking any more group bookings.
This is a very pleasant site and well worth a visit.

Very good location for visiting Pickering and the added bonus of having the 'Black Bull' to eat in where the standard of food was very good, the fact that they welcomed dogs was great.
However, the overall feeling when we arrived at this site was that it appeared a little tired, the pitch was level but not particularly inspiring.
The dog walk was dismal, full of weeds, and rabbit holes and the bins provided were always crammed full.
The cleanliness of the general bin area left a lot to be desired but the facilities block was always spotless.
I couldn't comment on the friendliness of the staff as we never actually saw them after booking in.

Just had 4 nights here at the Black Bull, found owners/warden very friendly. Facilities very clean and tidy, with plenty hot water, site well looked after. Pitches a reasonable size with water taps in easy reach. Bit of a walk to use facilities we found but no problem, could do with some lighting dotted about. Good clean, safe play area for children with little or no litter around.
Pickering within easy reach 1.5 miles nice walk, nice on site pub, although didn't try the food, plenty did
For £17 all in, in August not bad will without doubt be returning

Just got back from a 10 day stay at the black bull camp site. Excellent site quiet at night even though we were close to the play area. Shop very reasonably priced. Toilets/showers/washing facilities immaculate, play area and games room was a big hit with the grandchildren, staff very friendly and helpful at all times. Pub food was good and reasonably priced. Close to Pickering but I wouldn't say walking distance with young children. Overall would recommend for a excellent family holiday park, will be returning in the future.

Spent 3 nights at this site with an added extra night. Found owner/warden very good, helpful people. The site is very well maintained and controlled. Shower block is clean and kept clean. Pitches are good size. If you are unlucky and get a pitch at the bottom of the site you have a walk to the facilities including waste water and WC point. Second point is there should be some on site lighting for the darker nights, this maybe work in progress . I will definitely use The Black Bull Caravan site again

Very good site. Facilities good standard and clean. Downsides. We were parked roadside of site and there is a lot of roadnoise as it is a very busy road in peak season. But you get used to it.
The entrance to site is very narrow could be wider. Also avoid when steam fair is on, unless you are going, as the area fills up with hundreds of travellers causing trouble.Would use again but not near steam fair.
Shops, things to do on doorstep etc staff very helpful

Campsite and facilities maintained to a very high standard by the very friendly and helpful owners and wardens.
Shower block, laundry and washing area roomy and modern, plenty to keep the children occupied and spacious pitches.
Access was easy from the main Pickering to Malton road and into the campsite for my 8 foot wide 30 foot long American motorhome.
The site is on the outskirts of Pickering which has a nice indoor antique market and variety of shops. The steam railway is a must through heartbeat country to Whitby.
I will stay here again when in this area, to me access and pitch length is always an issue, so it is always a bonus to find a site of this quality that meets my needs.

The site is the about 2.5 miles out side Pickering on a major road, however we had no experience of any road traffic noise, even when the road was wet. The site is handy for buses, a stop right outside. All the info about times etc are in the office.
We found the site clean and tidy. The washrooms have been retouched and are fresh and airy. The only comment against them is there are no towel hooks at the handbasins.
The site itself was handy for the pub,we used the pub a couple of times fine. On site the grass was well kept, what looked like a new children's play area, not many water points, and if you was at the far end of the field it was a good walk to washrooms and litterbins.
Most hardstandings seemed to have a awning section attached which is hard, so good pegs would be needed. On the whole a good site for seeing the area, very polite warden, a site we would visit again, but would try for pitch at top of site
