Just back from Black Bull "again" but they've updated their showers and toilets and there all free and beautiful to use. The waters just 1 temperature so its safe for kids and each cubicle is very roomy with separate changing area. A much improved site and still reasonably priced.

Just spent a lovely weekend at this lovely little site, the first time for us. Toilets and showers were spotlessly clean and warm, the pitches were level, staff friendly and helpful, and a nice pub with a beer garden, also the location is good for days out.We would use the site again.

This campsite was lovely. It was small enough for our 4 year old to go off and play, which he could have done from any pitch on the site. The play area was great and would suit children of most ages. The toilet blocks are new and excellent. It is easy to find and although one night the electric kept going off, it was bank holiday, the site was full, and it didn't happen again as I believe the camper responsible with every electric gadget you could imagine advised to be a bit more considerate. We would love to visit this site again.

Just back from The Black Bull campsite and thought it was a great little site. In a good location, near Flamingo Land, Pickering, Whitby and Scarborough. The site was small but had a good games room, big field for ball games, playground which was good for all ages. In our group we had 4 kids aged 5-11. The shower block has been re-furbished over the winter and it was really clean and seemed to get cleaned a few times a day. The Malton to Pickering road runs alongside this campsite and can be noisy at night but a few bottles of wine helped sort this out! The owners were very helpful and friendly, would recommend this site. The pub in the entrance to this site (although not owned by the site) served nice food and had a small beer garden.

We enjoyed our stay here although we had to pay 50p for a shower (I think it is free now) We think the site is expensive per night anyway never mind having to pay for a shower. The Black Bull pub is excellent on Saturday evenings nice meals and kareoke. Kids park good and games room ok. You will need a household tv ariel to get a good picture on your tv. We will be back summer 2007.

I can't actually remember how may times we have been to this site since we first discovered it just over a year ago! We can't keep away. The site is well organised, clean and tidy. Quiet at times it should be. We always get chatting to friendly people. Friendly owner. Always helpful. The toilet block is always very clean. The showers can be a bit temperamental if you are not very quick. (you have to put 20p's in) There is a playing field for ball games etc which means you don't get the usual ball games around the pitches every evening. The location is just great for us if the weather is good you can just go into Pickering and wander around or stay on the site relaxing or if the weather is not too good there is loads to do ie. Eden camp, a drive to various coastal resorts or Flamingoland. I think it's a great site and good value for money.

We have just returned from Black Bull Caravan Park today after spending Easter weekend there. The Good Points: 1. Small site - only 36 pitches which means the site doesn't get too crowded. 2. Play area excellent for young children. My children aged 3 and 5 years were never away from it! 3. Friendly helpful staff with a warm welcome who showed us to our pitches. 4. Near to Malton, Pickering and the coast and plenty to do in the surrounding area. 5. Spacious pitches which the owners have recently planted trees and hedges to establish between each pitch and give a bit of privacy from adjacent pitches. 6. Nice games room with a pool table, air hockey table etc and drinks machine and vending machines for older kids - teenagers The Bad points: 1. Bad drainage - unfortunately the weather at the beginning of the week had been abysmal and the site had still not dried out fully which meant that some peoples cars and caravans got stuck in the mud and you coulkd feel your feet sinking in the soft mud whilst putting up the awning. 2. No lighting at night - the site was plunged into complete darkness after dusk so if you needed the loo during the night be sure to take a torch. 3. The payphone wasn't working. 4. The toilet block was in definate need of refurbishment. Although I witnessed the block being cleaned thoroughly, the general appearance would put some people off and give the impression that they were dirty. There was no heating and in the ladies showers there was 2 curtains separating the toilets from the 2 showers with a meter to put 20p in for the shower and then your cubicle go get showered which meant that someone could do a runner with your clothes if they really wanted to and leave you in a bit of a predicament or your money could run out whilst you were all lathered up in the shower and you would have to get out to put more money in! Unless you put 40p in to be sure this didn't happen. 5. The electric kept on cutting out. On Good Friday it was off for about 20 minutes between 8 and 8.30pm, on Easter Saturday it went off 4 times within the hour between 8pm and 9pm, and worst of all on Easter Sunday it must have gone off in excess of 30 times between 8pm and 11pm - it would literally go off then come on a few minutes later then within a couple of minutes the same thing would happen again, apparently it went off the night before Good Friday and a camper had to go to the pub next to the site to get the owner to come and put the electric back on! Because of this issue it was impossible to watch your tv, and if your battery was low in your caravan you would have had no light and also this meant that your fridge etc would not be working! It is because of the issue with the electricity that we will not visit this site again. After a nice day out all you want to do is sit down and relax in front of the TV which is something we found impossible to do and infuriating on some nights which meant we just gave up and went to bed.

The site in general was great, very clean with very helpful staff at all times. The toilets etc were always tidy and clean, only 20p to use the showers. Also the children's play area was great fun for my kids and checked regular. There is a pub on the edge of the site which provides lovely meals and quite reasonable but also there is no noise at a night time. The village is on the doorstep only 2 minutes by car and provides ample shops to cater for all your needs. The site in general is well situated for visiting the surrounding area and coastline. I would certainly recommend this site to anyone.

Close to all amenities in Pickering, first time on this site, toilet in need of modernisation but were still very clean. Good games room for the kids, friendly staff, good size pitches, we went at a quiet period but others on site expressed at busy times long waiting times for the showers, we will be visiting this again soon. Also on sundays there is an exellent car booty within a 5 minute walk, but on a very busy road Flamingo Land and Eden Camp just 5 minutes drive away.

August 2005 Good: 1. Good play area for the kids (but could benefit from a fence between it and the road). 2. Games room is good for the older kids. 3. Staff very polite and helpful. 4. Flat tree lined field and well laid out pitches. 5. Separate dog walking area. 6. Well situated for local attractions. 7. Clean facilities.
Bad: 1. Toilet block. There's only one for the whole site. If you're at the end of the field you've got a 200-250m walk. Can't speak for the ladies side but the mens side only has 3 sinks and only 2 of those have a mirror. The showers are particularly poor and don't last very long for your 20p (mine ran out). 2. Noisy main road - even at 2am on a Saturday night.
