This is a really friendly site, we camped and the pitches are not numbered which is great when camping. The field is big and fairly flat. Charged £14.00 for a two man and 1 one tent with two kids and one adult for the night which feel was a fair price. Recepetion sells, local eggs (which were good), milk, bread and ice creams and ice pops which were great for the kids as at 10p for ice pops with it being a really hot stay that was great for them.Good games room for older kids, big play field. Showders and toilets very clean, room for mum and kid in showder with plenty of room. Laundry and good pot washing area, dog walk. Pub within two minutes walk from tent field, didn't eat there but menu looked ok and price quite fair.Easy reach of Dalby Forest, Pickering and The Moors, car boot sale at Pickering show ground Sunday am. Will be back again.

Alovely clean site, pitches are well spaced out and the toilets are always clean. It has a small play park for young children, a games room for the teens and there is also a huge field for ball games. Caravan needed very little leveling, as mentioned bins for all types of rubbish to be recycled. There is also a dog walk with plenty of bins provided. Enjoyed the walk into Pickering which took us about 45mins. We also took the steam train into Whitby which was excellent. Food ih the pub was worth it portions are massive. Alovely friendly couple who own the site willing to help you if needed. Will most definetly return

Lovely site easily found right behind the Black Bull pub on the main road from Pickering to Malton. The toilets were really clean a pleasure to use. We took our two grandchildren age 6yrs and 2yrs they loved the play park and enjoyed riding their bikes around the site with us following them. The pub was excellent children were excepted with no fuss we did not have a meal but they looked lovely we will be going again booked for May, forgot to mention there is a dog walk.

Well to be honest we didnt like the site and we wont be returning to it. Dont get me wrong there was nothing really wrong with it, best thing was it near flamingo land,
I found it very disturbing with a very very busy road,
No where for little kids to play, there was a huge field but not on site,
Nice clean showers,
I found it very dark there was no lights any where after a certain time, and caravans was very close together, we could hear everything what next door was saying????????
It was ok but wont return

Excellent site reasonably priced, on the main Pickering to Malton road. Road noise posed no problems. Level grass pitches with plenty of water points dotted around. The site is very well maintained, spottesly clean toilet and shower block. Free Showers. Gas sold on site. The Black Bull pub serves excellent food in large portions at very reasonable prices.
Highly recommended. !

Just returned from a photographic camping trip of Pickering and Northumberland staying at the Black Bull Caravan Park (and Proctor Stead, Near Craster, Northumberland). It is just 1.5 miles from Pickering town centre so you can walk in to town (but do take a torch if you are returning after dark).
It had everything you needed really. Flat with plenty of mature trees and hedges. The Black Bull pub on the site was superb, serving huge meals for less than £10.00. On Tuesday we came second in the pub quiz and won £12.00. That paid for another 2 rounds!
There was some traffic noise from Malton Road which was the only down side. There is a well maintained combined toilet/shower block next to the laundry room and a real plus was the games room - Pool, air hockey and table tennis were on offer and leaflets regarding other attractions in the area.
What I did notice was the owner's attitude to recycling. A recycling bin for everything, something which I feel is as important now as it ever was. Please do your bit for the planet.
Whitby and Scarborough are only a few miles drive away. You can get to Whitby easily without driving at all. Take a steam train from Pickering station to Whitby through the Yorkshire Moors. It costs £20 return which is a little steep but at least you can have a drink in Whitby if you want and you don't have to worry about parking (Whitby Abbey is the best place for parking if you do take your car).
I was really impressed with this site and would recommend it to friends and family.

Nice site, This is one of the best site's we stayed at during our 2 1/2 week tour, very well looked after with good facilities and a nice bar at the entrance, good kids playground and central for touring. Our 8 year old locked the keys in our car here, which was fun for a while.

Just back from our first real trip and have found an absolute gem here. Pitches were flat and spacious and with lots of hedges and trees around the site, it was sheltered too. It is adjacent to the main Malton to Pickering Road but you hardly noticed the traffic noise. The site is next to Pickering Showground so there can be some noise from that. The Steam Rally was on when we were there but again the noise was not excessive in any way at all. Shower & toilet block looked new, was warm and there was plenty of hot water whenever we went. There is a small well kept playground for the kids (ours were never off it) and a games room with pool, table football, air hockey and table tennis at a small charge. There is also a big field for ball games, just opposite the main camping field. The site felt so safe so we were happy to let the kids wander without fear. The site has a small shop with all the essentials reasonably priced and the Black Bull pub serves really nice food at really good prices. It's a super base for a family holiday. Flamingo Land, the North Yorkshire Moors and Scarborough/Whitby are all in easy reach we managed to keep five kids aged between 10 & 2 amused without spending a fortune. We'll be back without a doubt.

A workmate and I planned a two night stay on this site as his first introduction to camping. On arrival we were greeted warmly and given clear directions to the tent pitches. As the site was fairly quiet we had a great choice of pitches, although all of them were very well kept. My first priority was to check out the toilet and shower facilities, which were found to be immaculate and with tons of hot water ( free showers ! ) Over the weekend the site got busier but at no time was it noisy.Everyone seemed to respect fellow campers. The location is terrific, with lots to do in the area (information available in games room and at reception. ) We were so impressed with the site that we stayed an extra night, just getting out before the "Great Flood" of 2007 ! I plan on returning here in August for a short break. Would recommend this site to campers and caravanners of all types.

We have just had a 2 day stay at this fabulous site, and plan to return. The staff were friendly, the shower blocks are obviously new, and kept spotlessly clean. The site is quiet, spotless, and the pitches well looked after. We actually booked to stay as we went to Pickering Game Fair, but we now plan to go back. North York Railways is just up the road, a fantastic opportunity to go on a steam train, the kids loved it! It's not too far to go to the coast for the day either.
