This really is a site of two halves. The central part of the site is very open with low ferns and gets very crowded and is quite noisy, but if you go to the back edge it is much more sheltered by the trees and is much quieter (although a fair trek to the toilet block). The site is in a lovely location with easy access to Beaulie heath which is great for walking or cycling, with Brokenhurst and lyndhurst (a must to visit the sweet shop!) a short car journey. There are 4 toilet blocks in total. They were kept very clean despite the site being full but the hand soap did run out. The downside is there are just not enough showers, the ladies started queueing very early and by 5.45 the queue was about 30 strong, out of the block and across the field, it's best to wait until mid day when there was still a queue but not nearly as long, predictably the queue was out the door again by 6pm and all evening. The wash up sinks are clean and under cover. There is no shop on site but they do an ice pack service for £1 a block. There are ranger lead activites but at £5 per person these can get pricey. Do remember to pack all food away either in plastic boxes or back in your car as the ponies that roam the site will not think twice about going in your tent for food! All in all we loved the site despite the lack of showers and will be returning.

Beautiful woodland/heath site. Fairly large - around 500 pitches. We must have got one of the last spaces after a frantic last minute phone call as when we arrived an hour later the site was fully booked.
Rule is to pitch 6 metres from your neighbour, easy for us - maybe a little more difficult for those arriving any later in the day as the middle field was quite busy.
PLUSES: Lovely clean, new showers and toilet blocks. Plenty of hot water. Lovely countryside. Cute ponies. Helpful staff and nice towns in easy driving distance. Although a fairly big site it did not 'feel' big.
MINUSES: No children's play area (luckily ours found new friends and made their own fun!), although showers were lovely I think 12 showers per sex on this size site was a few too little - I queued for 35 minutes on Saturday!
Good camping shop in Lyndhurst for any forgotten bits and good local shops in Brockenhurst - the LONDIS will freeze your ice packs free of charge.

We went to this site last weekend for a couple of days on Thursday and Friday. Upon arrival the wardens were very friendly and we bought a Forest card for £15 (seems to have gone up compared to some earlier reviewers)this knocks £3.50 per night off the cost and therefore pays for itself in less than a week,so worth considering.
The site was lovely, no marked pitches, with the benefit that you can pitch anywhere; the disadvantage is that so can everyone else.
Scenery is stunning in this area, no problems with the ponies, they're just cute, they didn't come near my tent.
The toilet blocks were great, with warm showers and well cleaned. The shop sold instant barbeques and stuff, but is cash only, so be ready for that if you need last minute supplies. Nearby Brockenhurst is good. Snakecatcher pub has been raved about, in our opinion it was adequate but not spectacular ~ £40 for three courses for 2.
We'll definitely go back as it's such a nice site with lovely walks close by.

Fantastic site. You pick your own unmarked pitch. Three new-ish toilet / shower blocks, which are kept clean. Plenty of hot water. Staff all very friendly. Naughty donkey visited our tent and there are lots of ponies around, so keep food packed away safely.

Campsite had some very open areas but as was not very busy we pitched between some trees and had a great view of the woods. The site toilets and showers are kept very clean. There is no shop and it is a good drive to the town if you need anything, so you have to make sure you have everything you need. The staff are great very helpful, when weather was really bad came around to make sure everyone was alright and if we needed any help. If you love horses this is the place for you as every morning they were around the caravan, or there were donkeys and at one time deer, it was brill. The only problem was an owl who decided to sit in the tree next to the caravan , but it is the country side and it was his tree .

We just spent a hectic weekend at Roundhill, our first visit to this site. We knew it would be busy being a bank holiday weekend and it was. Having said that we managed to find a nice spot to pitch the tent with trees and bushes to screen us from the nearest tents. Some parts of the site were very open and wall to wall tents.
We were not too far from one of the toilet blocks and we were fairly pleased with the facilities although I did find myself locked in a toilet on the day we arrived. The handle had broken and no one had informed the management. However once they were informed it was fixed.
We were warned that there was to be no noise after 11pm, and it was mainly adhered to, although I would recommend earplugs because with so many people camping around you there always seemed to be a baby crying or a dog barking or a train rumbling past a few miles away and on the last night a group of noisy boys shouting.
The best thing about this site was the fact that it is in the middle of the New Forest. The site is well away from the road and the trains I've mentioned are miles away. There are ponies and donkeys wandering around the site, and you are a short drive from Bealieu Motor Museum, Lymington,Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Exbury Gardens and Bucklers Hard. Also Paultons Park is less than half an hour away which is where our children dragged us on Sunday.
The site offers plenty of space for the children to run around, play football, have water fights without disturbing the peace and tranquillity.

The site is well set out with 3 good sized shower rooms and separate pot washing rooms. The showers are only push button type but that doesn't stop the water being nice and hot.
When I was looking at this site and read the reviews I must say I was a little put of by the fact it was on a old air field but once there I found it really didn't matter, yes there are concrete paths over some of the site but these are not runway size (in fact they are no wider than a car !) and didn't get in the way of a enjoyable time.
The only draw back that I could find with the site is that it is quite open on most of it and the wind really does whip across it if you get more than a breeze going.
In all if you are looking for a good child friendly site I would say this is for you , however nothing is within walking distance and there is no shop on site so expect to drive everywhere.
All in all really enjoyed the site (despite the weather ) and looking forward to going back latter in the year !

Took a last minute long weekend break and stayed at Roundhill last weekend. Perhaps a little early in the season to make comment on the site overall as it was very quiet but we will be going back again from what we did experience.
A big site with a nice mixture of open areas as well as sheltered wooded sections around the site, 3 very good sized shower blocks with separate pot washing rooms all of which seem to have been renewed over the winter period to a very high standard.
It was dry whilst we where there ! I know its unbelievable, but I can see that there would be problems when it does rain with heavy puddling as the ground, although it looks flat, is quite wavering if that makes sense?
Great if you have a dog or over active children with you as you can walk out from the top of the site into the forest and Brokenhurst is only a short drive away for local shops.
All in all a good site that feels much more relaxed and unspoilt rather than the busy Hollands Wood site that is just down the road.

My fiancee and I have just returned from a night away at this site, as we wanted somewhere fairly easy to get to, with minimum hassle.
The sight was well signposted from the Lyndhurst - Brockenhurst road, and on arrival the staff were friendly and efficient They were helpful in terms of available pitches and areas to avoid. We had initially phoned to book, but they don't take advance bookings for periods less than 2 nights, so it's a case of phone up, check availability, and then get to the site. The site was well presented, lots of horses around to add to the experience, and the ground good as expected in The New Forest. There are some nice woodland walks nearby, and Hurst Castle is a nice evening walk, just a short drive away. We had no complaints at all about the site. They were also tolerant of our mistaken lateness in breaking camp (you're supposed to be packed up by midday, we were still there at 2pm) - probably a different matter at peak times. In all, a nice, uncrowded site, with well provided facilities.

We have holidayed in the New Forest on a regular basis and know the area well. We usually visit during October half term after Roundhill has closed but not being tied to term times this year meant we could take the opportunity to stay on this site for the first time. It's in a pretty area of forest with lots of native trees - so during a good autumn the colours are wonderful. All of the forestry commission sites have been taken over by the Camping and Caravanning club.
GOOD BITS
Closest you can get to 'proper camping' but with facilities.
Huge site - no defined pitches.
Cycle track goes through site - easy access to other well signed tracks.
Situated on old airbase so miles of concrete tracks (direct access off site) to walk dogs/cycle/kids to roam, no matter how bad the weather you won't get caked in mud.
Miles of walks direct from site.
Ponies/pigs/cows and donkeys wander(and run) at will through the site.
Close to Brockenhurst and Lymington.
NOT SO GOOD BITS
If it's wet and you're pitched in a dip you will end up in standing water. Difficult as the site actually looks quite flat.
Seems to attract lots of groups - was quite noisy when we were there and the wardens didn't bother.
Rule of 20ft apart seemed to apply to some and not others for some reason.
Access to shower blocks is dreadful in wet weather - very muddy and slippy. Dangerous if you are not good on your feet.
Shower blocks struggle to cope when site is full - expect queues, ran out of water 1 night we were there.
Only allowed 1 windbreak of 6 poles (we were told to shorten our 10 poler). OK so you don't want people barracading themselves in but this seems a bit of a perfunctory rule as the gaps vary between poles on different windbreaks. But hey-ho.
Limited generator use 10am-12 noon and 2pm-4pm which is great but when this was broken the wardens didn't do anything about it.
Cost - varies midweek and weekends but 10 days for 3 adults and 2 dogs just cost around £180, as a previous reviewer said, it's expensive for camping in a field. However if you are members of the Caravanning and Camping club and over 55 you get a massive discount.
If you like a quiet site this probably isn't for you unless you visit during school terms. Wasn't impressed with the wardens - never even used to speak if you met them on site. Can't see the point of having rules if only some people are expected to adhere to them.
POINTS TO NOTE
No hook ups
No laundry
No play facilities
Its worth trying the train from Brockenhurst to local areas.
Lots of places to eat but not in walking distance.
FOOD SHOPPING
Lymington - Somerfield/Tesco Metro/M&S food/Waitrose
Brockenhurst - Tesco express/small supermarket opposite tesco. Local butcher.
Great Saturday street market at Lymington.
We enjoyed the break but would only visit at quieter times.
