Myself, My husband and four children went here for a week stay at the end of August and had a great time. I did not find the showers hot and neither did my 5 year old son. There was a bit of noise but asking people to keep it down works. I think people should remember that we are campers in tents not five star hotels. I found the showers to be thoroughly cleaned once a day and if you can get there early there were no queue's. We are planning on going for longer next summer and can't wait. The staff there are so helpful and friendly, there are shops a couple of miles away in Brockenhurst and a small tesco that you can get all you need in. For drivers Southampton about 45mins away. The ferry to the I.O.W from Lymington about 20 mins from the campsite. The walks are good as you can go the perimeter of the campsite and plenty of trees for the kids to climb. I would recommend this site to all. A great time was has by all.

Have just returned from Roundhill after a three day break in the New Forest area. The campsite is located in a beautiful spot, close to Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst, and with Christchurch and Bournemouth also within easy reach. The campsite itself is lovely, with plenty of space for pitching. We really enjoyed being surrounded by the ponies, donkeys and cows, who wandered freely around the site, although we were warned to keep food safely away from them, as they did have a tendency to take a bite if they felt like it! Although the ponies are pretty safe, we did see one little girl kicked by one, so parents of children need to warn their children to stay clear. In spite of several criticisms, we found the toilet and shower facilities ok (nice and hot), and didn't have to queue. The washing up facilities however were woefully lacking for the number of people there, so we found ourselves returning home with a full load to do at home. Our main criticism was the level of noise on the site, even after the 11pm curfew, particularly with the large numbers of groups and children there. This may have been because we were there during the last week of the summer holidays and the site was full. The road at times, also became a cycle track for the many children on the site, even after dark, when quite a few accidents occurred. Overall I would say this is a lovely site, but if you are looking for peace and tranquility,(and if you don't like a lot of children around) try to come during less busy periods.

We stayed for 5 nights at Roundhill and loved it, despite the horrible weather.

The staff are really helpful and friendly. It feels really spacious even when full, loads of good cycle paths, all easily accessible.

My only criticism would be the hot! hot! hot! showers, which is mentioned in other reviews.

We'll definitely return and hopefully have better weather.

I have just returned from a weekend here and found the campsite to be very good and just what we needed.

The site is huge, much bigger than I expected so finding a site to pitch took longer as too many options!

I loved the fact that the ponies, donkeys and cows were wondering about the site, that was lovely!

My only complaint were the amount of showers for the site, every morning there were long queues and it took about 40 mins, something I decided to forgo as didnt want to waste that much time of my break!

The surrounding area was beautiful and the village of Beaulieu was amazing. I just wish we had more time to explore. Also Lymington was a nice visit too.

We had a lovely meal in the Rose & Crown which was a short drive away.

Stayed at Roundhill for three nights. Loved the fact that you could literally pitch where you liked and that there was plenty of space.

Really is a 'back to nature' site, ponies walking around, great Forest all around, but if you are looking for a bit of luxury, its not for you.

I disagree about how good the showers were, the water at around 8am was always luke warm, they were small (no chance of taking a small child in there and keeping out of the wet on the floor) and the floor area was disgusting, mud everywhere and hardly ever cleaned out.

But all in all we had a good time, £20 a night is a bit expensive to basically pitch in a field, but it is as close to nature as you can get and the security of the place was excellent.

Just returned and feel everybody should be aware of a few things about the site facilities before you book. If you are like me and are the sort of camper who likes a few creature comforts (like toilet paper and soap and a shower)please read on. If you are a bit more hardy then please do skip this review!

Yes, the site does now have refurbished showers and toilets, but as mentioned in a few other reviews there are not enough of them. We had to queue everyday at various times in both ladies and gents. The first ladies shower block we tried had a queue inside, down the steps and outside. We joined the queue in the next block and after queuing for about 15 minutes everyone was told to leave as it was cleaning time. I then joined the queue for the 3rd block. Whilst we did get an impromptu walk around the site, in all it took us over an hour to get showered. Worth bearing in mind if you are planning a day out.

There is only one hairdryer in one of the blocks which did not work but still accepted money and despite letting a warden know, an out of order sign was not put up. The dryer is strangely positioned in the centre of the queuing ladies and I did not see it used at all during our stay.

There is one small soap dispenser per block for about 12 toilets (not sure why they didn't splash out and put up a few more) which is only refilled once a day, so is often empty and there was frequently no toilet paper. Some of the toilets seem to be leaking. Taking into account the lack of paper and soap, it may be an idea to brief any little ones about taking soap etc.

Having spent abot ?100 for a 3 day break for 2 pitches for 3 Forest Experience members, we did feel that the Forestry Commission have penny pinched and should be open and honest about the facilities so people can decide whether this is the right site for them. Especially considering our relatives (also members) who were staying at Hollands Wood were charged ?5.00 to visit us for dinner one evening. A strange policy as the rear of the site is completely open to the public and not policed by the rather stern receptionists.

All in all, we love the New Forest and will be returning soon but will be trying some of the independently owned sites next time.

We were here for 3 days over the first May bank holiday. Lovely site. Very busy check in but we were waved through as we had booked and paid in advance. Helpful staff but no shop for basic supplies which is a shame.

This is a fairly open heathland site and there was lots of space even though the site was very busy. There is no electric hook up but we managed fine for the 3 days and the people we were with for nearly a week.

My daughter was delighted to see the ponies had foals and we even had a pony in our awning at one point. Don't feed them though or they won't go away!

The facilities are fairly new I believe but not enough for a bank holiday weekend! Apart from that they were fine.

Lovely area with lots to do. Good for cycling, walking, horse-riding, canoeing. Lymington is very nice with lots of little shops down by the harbour. Will definitely return.

Myself and my husband have just returned from a long weekend at Roundhill. We stayed at Ashurst, another forest holiday site, a fortnight ago and was interested to see how it differed. We booked in advance which seems to be the right thing to do as a there was a notice saying it was fully booked. We arrive at 10.30am and was allowed to find our pitch. I had been advised in advance to choose higer ground as its prone to water-logging. We couldnt quite see any particular higher ground so headed for the best looking area, which needed to be large as we had other family members joining us with tents later on in the day. The 6 metre rule is great as nobody is right on your doorstep.

The first day we sunbathed and had bbq late into the night. The rangers left us to our own devices but do step in if you rule break (which is more for safety than spoiling fun). There are 3 toilet blocks each with 4 showers for male and female. I did queue at 7am one day but not the next. Hair dryer is 20p for 1 minute. Sinks are in a row rather than being in a cubicle, but thats fine for teeth cleaning but perhaps not for washing your private parts!

Food shopping, a very large Tesco express in Brockenhurst village which is fine and better than battling with the everyday traffic jam at Lyndhurst! We love this area and know it inside out so we went to Highcliffe and had lunch one day in the cafe at the top of the cliff, highly reccomended! New Milton has a very large Tescos and there are Morrisons and Sainsbury's dotted all over the place. If you are bored, go to Burley! It's a lovely village with horses roaming freely, a great pub, few shops, and Cidre and wine tasting, where we bought a few cheeky bottles of mead and other fantastic wines.

Saturday brought so much rain it did not stop from morning til midnight. We were then water-logged! This did become quite depressing as we watched others by the 100, pack and leave very late into the night as they were being flooded out. It seems we picked a low area? However the site is so beautiful and the surroundings so quiet, I cannot moan about the weather. We did end up leaving a day early as thge sun did come out and we dried out our tent, so thought we would leave before it rained again. If you go in a caravan it would be perfect, if you go in a tent like us, well just hope for good weather, but enjoy it whatever as its just beautiful!

I did compare it to Ashurst but its hardly fair as we had a heatwave that weekend and that was amazing (see Ashurst review) so I would go back to Roundhill again but only if I knew the weather forecast in advance! Enjoy!

We've just come back from a weekend at Roundhill. We all had a great time and none of us wanted to leave.

When we arrived there was a big wait to check-in at reception - but as we had paid full in advance we could just collect our ticket from a nice man near reception and miss the wait altogether - so that's worth bearing in mind to pay full in advance at peak times.

There's a big choice of pitches - some near trees at the back and more open heathland in the centre. We opted for a quieter corner on the left hand side near the back. There was a big field next to us which we weren't allowed to pitch on and was ideal for dogs to run around on.

Our kids had a great time helped by a lovely family pitching next to us. Its an ideal place to bring bikes. The kids really enjoyed the ponies and the donkey!

The facilities were new and clean which was good but the site was full over the weekend and I don't think the showers / toilets quite coped. The first morning I had to queue for about 40 mins for a shower at 7am. Next morning I went for a shower at 6am and I was the only one there. Hubby showered in the evening to avoid the wait and he said it was very quiet. Both mornings the toilets ran out of toilet roll and soap. So if busy might be a good idea to bring your own.

The no noise after 11pm rule was great. The only noise was crying babies / toddlers and poor parents trying to placate them. Considering that the site was at full capacity this was pretty good.

We found it too much of a rush to leave by 10am and we wanted our tent to dry out before we packed it up - so we opted to pay the late leavers fee of £3 which meant we could stay till 5pm.

In summary we had a great time and would definitely recommend this site. Great location and lovely atmosphere.

We have just experienced our first family camping trip & have had a brilliant time at Roundhill.

We can't fault the site. The staff were helpful. The toilet & shower block was clean & although the site was full, we didn't have to cue for the showers / toilets.

We have a large 9 berth tent & still had loads of space & privacy.

Only one thing to mention, the showers were extremely hot, too hot for our 5 & 3 year olds.

We look forward to our next visit to Roundhill.
