We came here on the first weekend of opening in March, for a quick opportunity to get out in our van for a weekend before Easter. The site is a large expanse of heath land surrounded by the New Forest. Ideal for getting out for a stroll with a dog or just on foot. With no fence the New Forest ponies and livestock wander through site to add to the experience. There are miles of cycle track to get out for exploring further a field. There is bike hire in Brockenhurst.

The site is a couple of miles from Brockenhurst which has plenty of shops, cafes, pubs and an excellent fish and chip shop. The site staff were friendly and extremely helpful and pointed to the best places to pitch on a wet site. There had been plenty of rain and the site was flooded with a lot of big puddles. We had a friend in another motor home and we were able find a place to settle the vans in a gravel area. There was a lot space but there were few other campers on the site on this chilly weekend.

The site has no organised pitches or electric hook up so be prepared to pick your own space. The toilet block are of a good standard.

Great site for a get away that is a real New Forest Experience.

Located in a huge clearing in the new forest, this site is well located for miles of cycle/foot paths. The site is refreshingly open, and you are able to pitch pretty much anywhere you wish. There are three well kept toilet/shower blocks, which I would think would be pretty busy when all 500 pitches are booked, although there's loads of space on the site.

As the site is completely open, new forest ponies frequent the site, as well as some rather large bulls. The animals seem to be completely at ease with tents, caravans, campers and their occupants.

We enjoyed our stay at the site, but it was a bit big and faceless for us really. That said, it's perfectly adequate, and a good base for the new forest.

When we arrived we were told that the site was closed due to some drainage problems, and only accepting pre-booked people, so we could not extend our stay. Happily though, it meant that the large site was virtually empty!

We drove round and picked an empty field and pitched there! on our last day the warden was pretty quick to make sure we were out on time, we were then offered a late check out (3pm) but declined and packed up.

On the web site promises were made of 'ponies, donkeys and cattle wandering past your tent' and despite being a little disbelieving of the claim I picked that site on the strength of that and like clockwork all those animals did wander past! the horses hanging out outside the showers were very funny, and one night I was woken at 3 am by the sound of a cow grazing about 3 feet from my head!

I was very aware of the animals and made sure to pack everything away when leaving the camp unattended, but the animals are obviously not fed by the human visitors and so are not 'pushy' which was nice.

The showers were shut from 8:30-7:00, but there were plenty of them and plenty of toilets, and lots of bins, fire fighting stuff, and drinking water points all over the site.

The campsite was quite far away from shops, and had no on site shop, but brockenhurst is an hour on foot or a 10 min drive, and has everything you need while still being a lovely little village. I heartily recommend a visit to 'the secret garden' its quite expensive, but really worth stopping off at.

Roundhill is a really lovely site and is in an excellent location to explore the New Forest.

There is no electric on site but there are toilets and showers (which were always nice and hot) and the sinks were really clean. You can choose where you would like to stay so it is worth a drive around the site first.

We were amazed by the New Forest ponies, donkeys and cattle who regulary grazed on the site. The donkeys are quite bold and mischievious and will eat anything so you would be wise to keep all food out of sight! My children loved them all the same.

The New Forest itself (and the site)is heaven for hikers, cyclists and dog walkers. Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst and Lymington are all nice towns within easy reach. Lymington is well worth a visit on Saturday mornings when they have their street market and it has a lovely harbour too. Car mad people must make a visit to Beaulieu Motor Museum where they have vehicles that have featured in Top Gear as well as plenty of old vehicles, racing cars and bikes. We were lucky enough to enjoy the James Bond vehicle exhibition too.

We booked this site over a year ago but our hearts sank after coming across UK Camp Site and reading some of the negative reviews about the attitude of the staff. We are pleased to say that we found the staff really friendly and helpful. They kept us well informed of any important information too. The site makes a small charge for their ice-pack rental but you are not allowed to freeze your own. The phone charging service was a bonus too as everything is in close proximity so a car wouldn't give a full charge.

The only downside is that the ground can be quite uneven in places so you need to pitch carefully. We were unfortunate that we endured a couple of torrential downpours which left a lot of puddles. Sadly I ended up in one after taking my 4 year old daughter to the loo in the middle of the night so a good torch is essential as the only lighting is on the toilet block itself.

We would definitely like to come back again as we fell in love with the New Forest and all it has to offer. We just wished we had booked a few more days.

We have just returned from a bargain 3 nights at Roundhill with our 3 young children and had a fantastic time despite the changeable weather.

For August school holidays the site was remarkably quiet, the site is very open and we were spoiled for choice on picking our spot. I must admit - not having having a prebooked pitch has always put me off before but it was so easy and there was so much space we couldn't hear our closest neighbours. Look out for the darker areas on the ground, this is where the groundwater tends to pool if it rains hard. The ground was not at all rocky or hard.

The horses, ponies and cattle roam the site all day and were an absolute pleasure. Even the donkeys who broke into our larder at 6am for popcorn on our first morning and the cheeky pony who came into our tent and pinched our packed lunch for Peppa Pig world whilst my 8 yr old was on guard on the second day. Take heed and keep all food out of reach, they are remarkably resourceful but the kids loved them and it made up for not having a playground as they were kept entertained by the wildlife! But we didn't find them threatening at all.

The facilities are basic and a bit tired but more than functional and I didn't have to queue for anything. The staff were not at all intrusive and actually extremely helpful when required. We were not bothered at all for the duration of our stay.

It is really well placed for days out and we managed a ramble through the woods. All in all I thought it was better than Hollands Wood down the road which we went to have a look at out of curiosity. We will definitely be returning.

We stayed over a busy weekend in Aug, the campsite is basic but the facilities provided are in excellent condition. Upon arrival the staff were welcoming and helpful even though it was peak time on a friday.

There are 3 separate toilet/shower blocks and these can get busy especially in the morning. The washing up facilities are good and plugs for the sinks are provided.

The campsite is on uneven ground and it took us a while to find a good spot for our tent. We will be visiting this site again!

Have stayed here many times, decided to go last minute camping, second weekend in August, booked on line and saved 33% - Always nice.

We're met on arrival by a short queue but very friendly staff, soon enough we had the tent up and the kids were off to explore the large site. It was a very hot weekend.

The toilets broke on the second day, which caused a bit of a problem as my son had a dicky tummy, so we had to drive to the next nearest. Not the end of the world and more trouble for the site maintenance men who had to sort the problem out on such a hot day.

Only real issue was the camper van that decided to pitch up near us on the saturday, with a load of day visiting friends - proceeded to get a little tipsy and then abusive after we asked them to turn their music down.

Staff were again very helpful and said they'd come over if we needed it but eventually the complaints, to be followed up by sarcastic comments the next day. All in all an unpleasant and unneccesary incident

The ironic thing about all this is the camper van was full of retired (older)people, and we (the complainants)were two young families with two tent's full of children - You'd would have expected US to be the noise makers. Funny old world.

It made us wonder if they could have a policy of quiet area, family area, noisy area etc

Other than this incident we would definitely come again, but may be a bit more selective on where we pitched.

This is a very big site and attracts a lot of people on the weekends. We arrived here on a Saturday evening after being out on the Isle of Wight for the day. There were a few people in front of us at reception. The rangers were on the gate checking for existing campers and allowing them down the other entrance lane and checking for reservations etc for new arrivals. Check in was simple and I had no problems.

Like all camping in the forest sites they go through a few rules but it helps everyone enjoy their stay. No burning wood in the forest being the main one. We were given a map and told to find our own place. We went and found a water tap and filled up and decided what we should do and where we should park. We had a bit of a drive around looking for a quieter area.

There were quite a lot of groups and with us just being 3 of us we found a place not being too fussy and parked up. The next day was Sunday and a mass exodus occurred by midday. This transformed the site. We had a look around and went off in the van to find a nicer place to stay for the next 4 days.

There are 3 toilet blocks which were all pretty much the same, sort of temporary buildings. They were nice enough though and plenty of water. I don’t know how well they coped on the weekend though with the amount of people. There are wild ponies and donkeys on the site here walking around, not to be stroked or fed though.

We had trips to the IoW (parking at Lymington) and to the National Motor Museum which were both great days out. You can move pitches/areas as much as you like on site.

I couldn’t see on the map and don’t think there is motorhome waste point, CDP is available though.

Mostly tent campers on site, no electric available at all so not really any caravans and just a few motorhomes here and there.

The site was ok, I preferred the Ashurst site we stayed at previously though.

Our first visit to the New Forest and we loved the site. It is a huge place, so you can choose your spot. The ground is uneven - but that's because it's a forest! It's woody, heathland and natural. There were great walks straight from the site and there was loads of space for tennis and football with the kids.

Watch out for the donkeys who will raid the food from your tent!

We enjoyed the dusk watch walk and all the rangers were friendly and helpful.

We used Forest Park riding stables, who were helpful and had a good staff/rider ratio.

Especially enjoyed the walk from Milford to Hurst Castle, along the spit and back by ferry.

We are a family of 4 with 10 and 6 year old children. This was our second vist to Roundhill, we liked it last year year despite poor weather so returned this year and again were impressed with what this site provides for us. We prefer this kind of informal site, not being told where to pitch up and not having any pitch boundaries. No electric hook-ups here suits us.

There is tons of space and even when full this site still has bags of room compared to other more formal sites. There is a good diversity of terrain to choose from - in the middle of a large grassy area or submerged right in amongst the trees.

We prefer to be next to the edge of the trees and there are plenty of clumps of bracken which make a barrier so you don't feel the need to use your wind breaks and your entrance can have natural privacy.

Although the whole site is level (no hills and valleys) there are plenty of lumps and bumps so careful positioning of the bedroom area is required. The grass is short everywhere as ponies, cows, donkeys, deer and rabbits can be seen all over the site at all hours (you have to do a night watch to see the deer) and are natural lawnmowers.

The 3 toilets blocks are warm, robust and functional and are cleaned once a day. Each has a number of showers and a washing up room with free and plentiful hot water provided. No designated kiddies play area though the whole site has plenty of naturally interesting areas for the children with trees to climb, spinneys to make dens in, ponds etc. Our took their bikes to get around on.

The location is between Brockenhurst and Beaulieu and a handy cycle path leads down to Balmer Lawn where the kids love to splash around in the pretty river. The Tesco express at Brockenhurst opens till 10pm. Many pubs and take-aways lie within 4 miles.

The only downside for us was that we had family in Poole who wanted to visit us and we tried to meet up at the site and the charges for day visitors were, we thought, unreasonable and prohibitive, considering we had paid a relatively high fee to camp there already. £5 for the visiting car plus £2 per person if they stayed longer than an hour. Very steep considering. It left us smarting rather than wanting to return next year - a great shame as everything else was so good. Still, the security was very good at the gate (unfortunately).
