This is the first time I had been to the new forest so was looking forward to spending 7 nights at round hill. I was a little apprehensive after reading some negative reviews of the site, but it was booked so that's where we were going! I needn't have worried as the site was lovely.
I'd echo others thoughts about the ground being a little uneven but it's still easy to find a flat space to pop your tent. We have a very large tent for my husband and our two young children so the site ended up being very good value for us. We arrived to a fair amount of standing water but this dried out during our very warm stay.
The site had three blocks for toilets/showers. We used block b which had a baby changing room, washing up area and disabled facilities. There were queues in the mornings and evenings for the ladies showers, but not the men's & at washing up area at meal times, but avoid these and you're fine.
There was also a clothes hand washing room in another block. The wardens were friendly & helpful throughout and we felt secure that the children were safe on the site. Particularly as the entrance was so secure.
There were a few activities run by the site that my daughter really enjoyed. Looking at bats at dusk watch and pond dipping, although these are only run a few times a week and they're not cheap at £5 a go.
At reception they'll charge phones and sell you frozen milk and ice packs which were really useful for the cool box so we always had milk for the kids.
In the local area we visited beulieu, lymington, hired bikes in burley & went to peppa pig world at paultons park. Nothing was cheap but all was enjoyable. Will definitely visit again.

We stayed here with friends in 2 tents for a birthday surprise, the camp site is vast with choose your own pitch on arrival.
The weather was really bad that wknd and it was difficult finding a dry area to pitch. We were lucky ompared to others who abandoned the tents and left, waking up surrounded with a lake of water.
The area is very pretty and I'm sure lovely when there not torrential rain. The toilets/showers were a bit muddy but again due to the weather.
We went to beaulieu for the day which was close by, and dinner in a great pub called 'the snake catcher'
Staff very friendly and helpfully. Would go again but hopefully in better weather.

This was more of an exposed field than the camping amongst the woods I expected.
As there are no marked pitches it attracts groups. Fine if you want to camp with others but I wouldn't recommend it for single tents, groups are too often noisy and oblivious to neighbours.
It is bordered by woods which are superb for exploring.
Ponies and cows wander freely around the site which is nice.
It's a great location close to Brockenhurst. I'd recommend the Snakecatcher pub for food and enclosed garden.
Wardens were friendly. Washrooms adequate, even though I went on a bank holiday.

Overall a good campsite. The staff were friendly and the male facilities were good but there were queues for the female showers and were not particularly clean by the evening.
We had a lot of wet weather while we were there and the drainage of the site was not that good. The site became waterlogged very quickly and created large areas of standing water.
Good location for cycling and exploring and a nearby town had a tesco, a hardware store and a bike shop. We went during half term so was reasonably expensive.

We stayed at Roundhill over the May Bank Holiday weekend. It was cold. Very cold and occasionally rainy.
It was our first trip to Roundhill but found it to be a first rate campsite. Before going, we read some poor reviews, mainly complaints about fierce rangers and so on. I'm pleased to report we found this to be completely at odds with our experience - the staff that we met were friendly and helpful.
The site itself is like a microcosm of the New Forest itself. A lot of it is open heathland with woodland areas around the edges. You have a choice of environment and it is up to you where you pitch rather than demarked pitches, which was nice.
We were staying with four other families and had no problem in finding an area to accommodate all of us together which was handy. Even though a lot of the site was suffering from some standing water (hardly surprising), there were still plenty of dry spots to pitch.
There are three (seemingly) identical amenity blocks. These were all warm, clean and well appointed - very pleasing. There always seemed to be plenty of hot water.
Given the temperature, it would have been nice to have been allowed a camp fire but the rules of the site are clear before you book. We managed to eke some heat out of a charcoal bbq!
Brockenhurst has plenty of facilities and has everything you are likely to need. The site is in easy reach of a number of good sights and attractions - plenty to do for all.
I would highly recommend this site and would be more than happy to go back. Preferably when it's warmer!

We have stayed here in the past and only have one tiny fault and that is the uneven ground, with some very large holes
the site itself is pleasant and great for children to run around and burn their excess energy
the nearby airfield was great for our remote control airplanes and car,
cycling is good. loads of different trails to explore
the nights were peaceful
we had a nice walk into nearby brockenhurst which is a typical new forest village: gift shops, tearooms, groceries and pubs
Would we come again? Yes

Stayed here with my 2 children, sister and brother-in-law. Pleasantly surprised that the site was much less crowded and the facilities cleaner than at another Forest Holidays site I have used. My children are a bit old for playgrounds but there is lots of room for running around and games without annoying other campers.
The ground although flat is quite uneven and there are a lot of holes so you do need to choose your pitch carefully. There are no marked pitches so you can pitch where you like - it's a very large site so took us a while and a couple of drives round to choose. Fortunately due to limited water supply the site is considered full long before all the space is taken up so there should always be a choice of pitching areas.
Due to the size and layout of the site 2 of our party did manage to get lost on the way back from the toilets! Worth warning everyone (particularly children) to look out for landmarks on the way - it's even more tricky in the dark.
Campsite staff were very helpful and efficient especially considering that they were really busy.
BBQs are allowed off the ground and there are facilities for disposal as well as recycling of other rubbish.
Ponies were not a nuisance - we did make a point of keeping food shut in the car when not eating as is strongly recommended (could be a problem for backpackers!) It was nice to be able to see the ponies, donkeys and cattle grazing around the site.
One small issue - due to Forest Holidays pricing you can end up paying more for several small tents than if the same number of people share one giant one, although we were allowed to count a child's tent as a pup tent although officially it was slightly too large - as it is only designed to sleep 2.
Whilst in the area we visited the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu with a Top Gear exhibition and much more for the grown-ups: gardens, ghost stories etc. There was also a falconry display on while we were there. On the way home we stopped in Lyndhurst which was a pleasant town with good visitor information etc but well worth avoiding if at all possible if you are not stopping there due to a gridlocked one-way system.

We revisited this site in 2009 after a break of over twenty years. It was just as we remembered it only with some great improvements- namely proper toilets. We first visited whilst courting in the '70's and continued until our children were almost teenagers, and then there were only chemical loos.
Now we have three family tents and there are 12 of us in a large family group. We easily found enough space to be together without being on top of one another.
The children loved the ponies and cows walking through, and we were able to let the children run about reasonably freely. It is great to get the children away from technology and shops, and have great cricket matches instead.
We always enjoy the peace of this campsite, and because of the lack of light polution it is quite wonderful to be able to appreciate the stars at night.
We will continue to use this site for many years, the only downside now is that we need a power supply for the old man's sleep apnoeia machine or else he is snoring louder than the cows!

We just spent 3 nights here. We arrived on the Thursday. Wardens on the entry gate were helpful & explained the rules of the site. Allowed to pitch wherever we chose. Roundhill is a large site. It is set well away from any main roads.
I would agree with other comments regarding the requirement for an additional shower block as it was very busy at the weekend. The showers are spacious & warm.
It is a great place to relax with the new forest ponies, donkeys & cows roaming about. Plenty of good walks throughout the site, which our 2 border terriers fully appreciated. There is a noise curfew at 23. 00hrs whick was observed all nights that we were there. All you can hear then are the owls.
I would like to make a special comment for the wardens as they have been slated in previous reviews. During my visit they were nothing other than courteous & helpful. I witnessed them assisting a single mother erect a tent for her & her children. Also they did make a family move their pitched tent on the Friday night, as they had set up on the wrong side of the road. They then assisted the family to pitch the tent in an appropriate location. The following day when the warden was doing his rounds through the site he stopped & asked if the family were all OK & set up. The family thanked him for his assistance.
We will definitely be returning back to roundhill

My daughter and I stayed at Roundhill for two nights mid week to catch up with some friends who were staying in a pre-pitched Eurocamp tent for a week.
Having stayed at another Forest Holidays site that I hadn't liked I was aprehensive. I had no need to worry though - I thought this was a fab site in a superb location.
There is not much in the way of facilities on the site, but being in such a great spot for the New Forest and near Brockenhurst you don't really need anything.
My guess is it would be a very busy site at the weekends but we really enjoyed it and I'm sure we'll return.
