Just returned from a two night stay with our 6 year old son.
After reading mixed reviews we weren't sure about this site. We needn't have worried as found the site wardens friendly and helpful on arrival providing a sheet of site rules, map and tickets for the car and tent.
Loved the fact you could drive around and choose your own pitch avoiding the very uneven and bumpy ground.
Very quiet at night at 10. 30pm with only the owls making any noise.
The only negative about this site is there only 3 facilities blocks to cover 500 pitches so expect extremely long queues at peak times. They are also only cleaned once a day and do get very dirty.

My family loved this campsite. I am local to the New Forest and this unspoilt site was like stepping back to the 1970s and my own childhood camping holidays. Lovely chilled, happy atmosphere and plenty of retro campers the week we were there. I was lucky and pitched in a quiet area of the site: total silence except for owls from 10. 30pm. Youngsters and party people seem to head for the Northern end of the site which works well. The surrounding forest and heathland was lovely, ablaze with purple heather and full of donkeys, ponies and cattle all with cute young in tow. Keep your food hidden! Ponies can undo tent doors with long cords on the zips(I've seen it happen)so remove any dangly zippers they can pull with their teeth. The wardens are friendly and work hard to ensure this site remains friendly. Groups who like to pitch in large villages and stay up to 3am drinking and shouting are not welcome. Shower blocks are not the best, a bit basic but adequate although I agree another block is needed. Hollands Wood have better facilities. However I preferred this site. Only gripe would be that eletric hookup like they have have Holmsley would be appreciated.

Friendly and helpful wardens, everything no problems for them and laid back.
It rained on the second night and all the low areas filled up quickly and there were lots of very wet and unhappy campers the following morning. Subsequently a lot of people left that morning so when the rain stopped and the site dried out it was a lot quieter.
It is based on the old RAF Beaulieu site and if you ride/walk off some of the old tracks behind the water tower you end up on the old airfield.
They have no information or history of the site at reception but thought as the sign on the airfield directs you to the Forestry Commission I thought the campsite would have some info on it. You can locate all the old runways and ride around the remains of the old perimeter track.
The floor of the showers were dirtier than the mop and water in the bucket.
Not a lot for the kids to do if yours don't like bikes or outdoor games, but it is scooter friendly due to the long flat tarmac & concrete roads. Lots of trees to climb, woods to play in and places to hide. Great for bikes and plenty of rides around the area, you can even ride into Brockenhurst without going on main roads.
Lots of cows and horses around, great open site with a chilled out atmosphere, can imagine its a bit of a nightmare when its packed but we loved it and would go back again.

My family and I stayed here for 5 nights. We had booked our stay already however; when we arrived it was fully booked and finding a pitch was difficult as they are not laid out. This usually works well and we have found it a positive attribute at other sites. With this site so busy and all 500 pitches booked out it wasn't so good.
The ground is very uneven and limits the usable space.
Toilet block was generally ok, smelly but always a toilet free. There was almost always a line for the shower and they were a bit grubby from other users not cleaning up after them selves. Water was hot.
There was no essentials like bread, eggs and milk, coal etc for sale on site. They do sell Ice but its very expensive.
The company that deliver bikes to site for rent were good and we got bikes for 2 days.
The access to the new forest is amazing and access to walking and bike trails right on site was a big attribute.
We found the rules on site a bit limiting, no rope swings, no climbing trees, no washing lines. It was also frustrating that there was no evidence of any staff on site except in reception. So other campers were ignoring the rules put in place to make for a peaceful stay in the forest. For example, loud music, lots of noise after curfew.
On our last night it rained all night and into the morning. Because of the very lumpy bumpy uneven ground there were a lot of flooded out tents and our tent had puddles of water underneath the groundsheet which felt as though we were camped on a swimming pool. This site doesn't have good drainage and people were bailing out water with buckets.
Overall we found the site to be over priced, over crowded and lacking in suitable pitches and visible staff around the site. We enjoyed the location and the ponies and cattle around the site.

Stayed here for 5 nights in July. Lovely location, but this is a very large site and like other reviewers say, would benefit from having an additional toilet block and more frequent cleaning especially at busy times.
Having said that, the free showers were always hot and there was always paper in the loos. However, a few more coat hooks sensibly positioned would be an improvement. A coat hook 15 inches above the wash basin is no use!
You can pitch were you like, as long as you are 6m from your neighbours and can park beside your unit. The site is pretty level and being fairly sandy soil, was free draining and there weren't any stones to get in the way of knocking in the tent pegs.
You can walk / cycle in the New Forest direct from the site. New Forest ponies and cattle roam freely about the site, but please don't feed them.
For food shopping, Brockenhurst is only a short drive away and Lyndhurst is not much further. There is plenty to do in the area, I would recommend the New Forest Wildlife Park the otters are very entertaining (make sure you time your visit to coincide with them being fed),
Hurst Castle (although its quite a walk across the shingle bank if you don't take the ferry), and then there are the the forest drives, and reptile centre and deer viewing park both free except for a parking charge.

We stayed as part of a group of 10 families and had a section of the rally field. This worked brilliantly as we were all getting down there at different times and, being school holidays, we were concerned we wouldn't be able to find space to pitch together otherwise.
This was the second time we had been to Roundhill and the first we had been on the rally field. Both times I have liked the space you get and the wandering ponies and cows are the highlight of the children's stay!
We found that we rarely had to queue for the washing up areas, however we sometimes waited a while anyway to avoid peak times. The queues for the showers weren't too bad considering the time of year although the mop bucket water could do with changing more frequently.
The wardens came across as friendly and welcoming and this year we may try some of the ranger activities.
There is no playground or shop here. We went into Brockenhurst for shops, pasties and a pub! The Tesco's there seems quite set up for campers and on occasions when we have visited there were families of donkeys, very cute.
I would recommend Roundhill for families wanting a low-key, non-commercial site with added wildlife.

This was our first visit to Roundhill and it wont be the last.
The site is located near to Brockenhurst in the New Forest having room for up to 500 pitches, with 3 toilet/shower/pot wash blocks & Chemical toilet disposal. They also have disabled & Recycling facilities.
On our arrival we were greeted by one of the wardens who issued us with our ticket for the weekend, explained the site rules and advised us of the areas we can pitch in as your aloud to choose where you put your tent up.
With it being a Friday evening the site was very busy with a lot of families arriving and young children running around, this meant it was quite loud an you could not really relax till later on. If you like being close to the wild life then this is the place to be with the ponies roaming around the site and many deer birds and other wild life in the surrounding woodland. The site also arranges a number of activities that you can do to entertain the kids and see the wild life and woodlands.
In all we found the staff to be really friendly and helpful, the facilities were more than satisfactory and the location was lovely although the ground is uneven and lumpy in places but this cant be helped as it is heathland. As they say you take the ruff with the smooth.

Myself, my boyfriend and our puppy visited this site for a weekend to try out our new tent.
Really liked the fact that pitches aren't marked and you just drive round and choose where to put your tent yourself.
3 toilet/shower blocks in different areas of the park so never too far away from one. As only there for a weekend did not use showers but plenty of toilets. Queued to wash dishes but possibly due to inexperience and poor timing. Water really hot!
Pleasant walk through woods to Brockenhurst, where there are pubs and a Tesco express etc.
All in all really enjoyed stay, loved the ponies/donkeys/cows wandering the site.

We stayed at Roundhill site at the end of June / early July. It was quiet when we were there, being outside of school holidays and so there was a lot of space.
We found no problem in bagging ourselves a lovely spot partially under a tree and well away from other campers. This is a large site, but clearly in the main season it would probably be busier and there would be less privacy.
The toilets, showers and wash up near our tent were closed while we were there, as it wasn't busy, which meant a 6-7 minute walk to the nearest facilities (more like 10-12 minutes with a dawdling 2 year old!) We didn't mind and even took the car over a couple of times when the pile of washing up made carrying it all, along with the aforementioned 2 year old was going to be a bit much!
We loved the ponies and cows that came visiting, we were warned on arrival to keep all our food in the car as apparently some of the wildlife will raid your tent in search of food, which we did and had no problems.
The toilets, showers and wash up were all clean and tidy every time we used them which was appreciated. We didn't find there was a huge amount to do in the area with such a young child, but I think we'll take our bikes next time and explore some of the trails around the area. The weather was a bit changeable when we were there, but it looked like there were some good walks direct from the site as well. We found the staff there both friendly and informative, they seemed happy to help with any strange question or request we had!
All in all, we had a great stay and will definitely return. We also visited Holmsley (another Forest Holidays site) this year, which we also loved but found the 2 places very different. Roundhill feels quite remote and simple, whereas Holmsley is much more sanitised. Very different experiences, but we loved them both.

We arrived on a very hot last Saturday of the schools' half term and the site was full (we'd booked in for 5 nights). The staff on reception were very laid back and genuinely nice helpful people.
The only rules that they were keen to emphasise were that there were no fires aloud, that barbecues had to be off the ground with only charcoal fires and that there should be a 6 meter space between tents.
It took a few minutes to find a pitch, but once the tent was up we noticed the sense of space. There was some queuing for the showers that afternoon and the following morning, but then the site emptied out.
The next few days were blissful. The site is huge and has pitches in both open field area and beneath trees. The three shower blocks each had 4 showers all of which were clean and had plenty of hot water. There were never any queues. They offer an ice pack exchange service (£1 deposit and 50p for the exchange), but I would have preferred freezers so that our own ice packs could be used (my only minor grip).
There's loads to do in the New Forest, but with grotty weather Exbury Gardens, Beaulieu and Sammy Miller's brilliant motorcycle museum at New Milton all provided entertainment on different days. Lymington is also lovely and has a good Waitrose.
I am sure we will return in the near future.
