This was our first stay at this site and overall the experience was fantastic. Lovely site, excellent facilities and plenty of space to pitch. Showers are free and very powerful and for 20p you can get about a minute on the hairdryer. Never had to wait to use shower or toilets. Just a short walk to the edge of the forest and as it's surrounded on all sides this site is really peaceful.

Only went into Brockenhurst briefly to pick up supplies. Tesco Express had everything we needed, and there's also a fish and chip shop. If it's convenient on the way home it's worth visiting Lymington. Very nice little town with a Quay and plenty of fresh seafood vendors, also I think they do day trips to the Isle of Wight.

Only one issue - we booked through Forest Holidays and informed them that some of our party would be arriving late as they were coming from far away. We were told this wasn't an issue but upon arrival were told by the owner that we couldn't pitch tents after 10:30pm when the gates were closed. This is fair enough and in the end wasn't an issue but is worth bearing in mind.

Having been very disappointed at the take-over of the New Forest sites by (Camping and Caravan club of which I am member) and a huge hike in site fees almost 300% , and no longer giving the 20% discount for disabled all year round which we found very useful, we decided to stay away, however this year we made a return to this site.

Obviously most of the site remains as it was, untouched by regimental and 'stepford wives' camping thus far! It does however benefit from 'new' toilet blocks and showers, which during our stay were constantly closed due to blockages in the pumps.

Staff although none were familiar to us, were for the most part quite pleasant. Although we have to say this strange 'new rule' of only allowing 6 pole windbreaks! As like many others have invested in much longer ones to baffle the ponies when they are scavenging , this we was assured 'was not the staff fault but that of the Verderers'

I have to say in 25yrs of camping in the New Forest I have yet to met a Verderer that goes around and checks such things, but I now feel safe in the knowledge that he/she does

Love it, love it, love it!

Wonderful huge site with heathy/ woody landscape and (surely) a pitch to suit everyone. Bigger open areas where the families tended to gather and more secluded areas for the quieter types. Ie us!

Toilets/ showers were fantastic. Always clean and never crowded. Wardens friendly and efficient and quite strict which is good. No noise after dark which was bliss. The site was full by our second night but there was still plenty of space. We thought £11 pounds a night for 2 adults and a tent was good value. Oh, and book in advance. We rolled up the previous Saturday night but were turned away as it was full.

Ponies, donkeys, cows galore but not the marauding bandits were thought they could be! Just use common sense. Dont leave food around and dont feed them!

Brockenhurst has everything you are likely to need, independent bakers, butchers, petrol station, doctors etc as well as a small Nisa supermarket and small Tesco.

As others have said the site is low lying and is prone to puddling in heavy rain so do pitch on the higher bits of ground if you're expecting rain. Our weekend threw down torrential rain and the ground although wet remained largely firm underfoot and not too much of a problem.

Can recommend a walk/ drive to Hatchet Pond, approx 1 1/2 miles, in the direction of Beaulieu where you will find swans and other wildlife, beautiful views and fantastic '99' ice cream from the van. Also the pub at Bucklers Hard (on the bank of the Beaulieu River) does the best Ploughman's platter we've EVER had, at a good price. It can get busy though so allow plenty of time. The ship building museum there is also worth a visit and there are trips on the Beaulieu river available although we haven't been on one yet.

We love this site and will be going back ASAP!

What a fantastic site - arrived on Saturday morning and even though the sign said 'Full', because we had booked we were let in. Others who hadn't booked were turned away. However when we got in the site had plenty of room - I guess they don't want to fill the site too much and spoil people's enjoyment.

Stayed for just one night under some trees, backing onto the forest. Our kids loved the freedom of the forest and the ponies and donkeys strolling about. The toilet block was fairly new, clean and tidy, the pot wash room was a real bonus, very clean. Come nighttime there was no noise, no disturbance at all despite it being full.

Would definitely return.

This is our second visit this year and the new toilet and showers are up and running, lots of hot water, can be queueing at busy times for showers.

A lovely spacious site, you choose where you want to camp, even when full didn't feel crowded.

Only a couple of miles to Brockenhurst for supplies.

Would recommend as a good family site, if you wants lots of amenities this is not the site for you.

Just spent a very pleasant weekend (Fri, Sat & Sun) on Roundhill with my wife and two children (ages 3 and half an 1 and a half). We arrived on the Friday afternoon without booking and we had to join a queue but this went down fairly quickly. We thought that as far as camping is concerned the price was just too high, (£19 per night 4 person tent 2 adults and 2 little kiddies, and our car - but you don't pay for the showers). My wife and I can't figure out why we had to pay an extra £5 per night just for a gazebo, seems to be a bit cheeky of the Forestry Commission.

The campsite is huge and it feels like every single pitch is rugged, wild and beautiful, there are very many to choose from. There is a policy in place that you must keep at least 20 feet away from other campers so even when the site got full to capacity during our stay there was still lots and lots of space and peace. The site is totally surrounded by forest which makes it all the more attractive. It's quite simply a beautiful campsite. We woke up each morning to ponies grazing right outside our tent, unfortunately an adventurous donkey tried to get into the tent whilst my daughter was eating a chocolate cake and tore the seam, I clapped my hands one short sharp clap and he turned around and trotted off, but we didn't care somehow as it all seemed to be part of the adventure. Anyway, a seam is easy to repair.

There are plenty of shower blocks, and they fit in nicely with the surroundings (wooden built buildings), but even when I arrived at 7:10 am they'd been well used and there were queues. Also the temperatures were set, and they were set far too hot for my 1 and a half year old son, I had to shield him from the water while I washed him with a flannel, the water tends to get slightly cooler if you use the last shower from the water supply.

Brockenhurst is about 2 miles away, it has a small Tesco, a couple of decent pubs, and some very good grocery shops, but you may want to travel further afield for some quality New Forest villages i. E. Burly, Lyndurst etc.

The only thing I'd say watch out for (and this doesn't apply to everybody, nor the campsite, but the New Forest in general) are the maniac drivers that seem to be rife in this area, how we don't see dead and injured horses and ponies strewn across the roads is beyond me.

My first time at Roundhill and I thought it was great! It's a huge site with sheltered areas under large trees as well as open heathland. We arrived fairly late on a very busy Friday but were still spoilt for choice when it came to choosing a pitch. Even though the site was full there was loads of room and didn't feel crowded.

Toilets and showers were new, fairly clean and not too crowded despite being a bank holiday. There's a shop but didn't step foot in it.

The site is surrounded by woodland on 3 sides and opens into heathland on the 4th making it wonderfully isolated. No large roads run nearby so it is very peaceful at night. Beautiful setting with loads of opportunity for walking/cycling. Ponies roam everywhere on this site which gives it bags of character.

The price was a bit steep but I think that it was well worth it overall.

This was our first stay in a Forest holidays campsite and we were a little nervous as we usually stay in small campsites with campfires. We stayed three nights arriving on a Thursday at the beginning of June. The site was virtually empty when we arrived so we had the choice of pitches. The site is so big it was actually difficult to choose! Some parts were still a bit waterlogged from recent rain and some parts are not as flat as others. We were very spolit on our first night having the site almost to ourselves but knew it was likely to get busy from reading other reviews.

The site did get quite busy over the weekend as the weather was so good, but it never felt too crowded. The facilities coped well as one of the toilet blocks was closed for part of the weekend due to vandalism. There is a shop at reception which sells some basics like milk and they also offer freezer pack hire.

Brockenhurst is a good couple of miles away but is easy if you have bikes. This has a very good butchers shop which does meat for the BBQ as well for breakfast. The lamb kebabs are particularly good. The Tesco express has most supplies if not the local NISA has quite a few things and a large selection of wine and beer that is in the fridge.

This is an idyllic campsite in a great part of the country. The only slight niggle is that there is a £3 per night surcharge on the advertised prices if you are not a member of Forest Holidays or the Camping and Caravan Club. I did not feel that was made very clear from their website and does make it a little on the expensive side. However the benefits of being right in the forest and having cycle paths on the doorstep more than make up for it - as does having ponies and foals sat with you for breakfast.

Word of caution you should keep all food in the car and not it the tent. We had heard this on other websites but it is not in the guidance issued by the wardens. Someone did have to wrestle one of the ponies to get the food back which was in the tent and left open. I think that just adds to the quirkiness.

It's been nearly 3 years since we last stayed at this site.

For those who have not visited before, it is very large site and you choose your own pitch. You get all types staying here. There are large family groups, super size motor homes, caravans, back packers, young couples, retired couples etc. Like all New Forest sites, this place can get very busy at peak times.

Although we had a sunny weekend, many parts of the site were still waterlogged from the heavy rain in recent weeks. This site does not drain well.

Overall, a good site but I have 2 small grumbles:

1. The high cost. We were charged £18 for one Saturday night in June. This included an extra £1 administration fee because 'we were only staying 1 night'!

2. There is often a fairly long queue at the gates to get booked in.

Nice site. Sadly toilets were out of order, not good when your disabled.

I couldn't understand why we paid £20 to stay in our 25ft camper once and then was charged £20 to stay in our two person tent?.

Other than that the site is ok.
