This is our 3rd year staying at the campsite. It is a lovely open site with loads of really beautiful places to pitch. It is a great place to explore either by walking or by cycling. It takes about 20 minutes to cycle down into Beaulieu which is really picturesque. The wardens are really helpful and will give you maps with paths shown on them so you can explore at your leisure. Its a great place for families as there are no main roads nearby and you can explore the surrounding forest area for hours on end. The nearest village Brockenhurst has good shopping facilities for any essentials and loads of places to eat if you fancy eating out. This year we found that the price had gone up considerably and were under the impression that it was due to the toilets being upgraded. Unfortunately it was just the same so depending on what time you choose to wash depends on how clean you are when you leave. If you go in just after the block has been cleaned you can have a good wash without worrying what you are standing on. For the week we were there the blocks did get cleaned daily. 2 friends came to stay with us in our tent and paid £16.80 per night for the privilege which I thought was a little excessive. I don't think we will be going back there again, solely due to the price increase as there are plenty of campsites in the area that have showers for around the same price if not cheaper.

Booked this for the bank holiday weekend after being unable to get into our regular New Forest campsite (Red Shoot), I was somewhat dubious about the lack of facilities and was nervous about what to expect. However, this campsite now rates as one of my favourite all time sites and we will definitely be returning! The facilities are basic but better than I was expecting. They are more than adequate for a long weekend away and better than some we have used on other sites. The only thing missing were showers, but this is compensated by having private washing cubicles. The facilities were plentiful enough to cope with a fully booked site's demand. The dish washing area was indoors which is better than on many other sites, and provides plenty of free hot water. The site enforces a 6 metre rule due to fire risks, so you can guarantee you will have a large pitch even though pitches aren't marked. The space on the site was amazing even when fully booked - we had so much room it felt like we had the campsite to ourselves. With the exception of having to share the pitch with the wild ponies and donkeys! We will definitely return and are now going to explore other forestry commission sites.

My partner and I have been going to this site for the past five years with our children and have enjoyed every minute of the holiday, even the wet ones! It can flood in parts when wet and many a peg is scrapped in the summer, due to the very hard ground. It is very basic, with only toilets, wash basins and dish washing facilities, No hook ups(generators permitted at certain times) or showers, I agree with one reviewer who said about the lack of hygiene, although I think that that is down to the people who use them as they are cleaned twice a day (would they leave their own like it?). Care for their visitors-especially those who book, It can take quite a while stuck in the queue waiting to get on the site. It has gotten worse over the past couple of years as camping/caravaning has grown in popularity. But, hey were British we love to queue and moan! The price was also a good point, when there are 6 of you it's a bargain,(although we have found that this year '07 the price has increased dramatically- for very little/nothing in my opinion, as there are still no permanent toilet/washing blocks). The open space and wildlife is fantastic for the children-They love the freedom to roam and explore. A great attraction for the children and Dad's alike is the pond where I am assured there are fish, but have yet to see any-It keeps them occupied for hours, a little peace for mums. Horses, Cows and Donkeys roam freely through the site, which is lovely (rubbish and food should be kept securely or you may find a visitor looking for a snack). Transport is essential either 2 or 4 wheels are needed to get to the local towns. Site gates are locked at around 11pm for security. Brockenhurst is fairly close for the essentials, although the lodge on site sells bread and milk you can also charge batteries, mobile phones, freeze ice packs. At the lodge you can pick up a variety of leaflets and maps for the local events and attractions, Paultons, Beaulieu and cycle hire etc. There is also a payphone. You can also book up at the lodge to go on guided walks with a local warden. There are some lovely walks from the campsite. If there are just the 2 of you or you have deeper pockets than we do and don't mind roughing it with the best, it IS a lovely site with basic facilities and I would recommend it!

This is a large site in amongst the trees and forest. Despite the size you will need to book at peak times. Although at reception things seem quite regimented the staff are helpful and you are generally free to park where you want. The site facilities are simple, the toilets being quite workmanlike with no showers. The toilet block can get quite dirty towards the end of the day however cleaning is always thorough and regular. The real reason you will want to come here is to visit the New Forest. Get the cycling map from reception and use the traffic free forest tracks to explore by bike or on foot, many of the tracks are ideal for children i.e. Not too steep. It's not to far to the sea take a day trip to the Isle of Wight or visit Bournemouth. We have camped here many times and always enjoyed it - you do get the odd antisocial person who thinks half the county wants hear their choice of music but I guess thats the same anywhere.

My partner and myself stayed in Roundhill campsite for the August Bank holiday weekend, the place/location itself was very pleasant and relatively convenient, surrounded by lots of cycling/walking routes. It was very busy but not too cramped, so still have decent privacy for each family. However, the washing facilities were rather obscene. Not too sure if they did clean the toilets regularly enough (didn't look like they clean it everyday), but everytime we used them, they were always filthy. They do not have a proper shower area, so with campsite this size (500 people) and not possible to wash yourself properly is really rather unpleasant in summer, and the smell in the toilets/wash basin areas were just revolting. Location wise, about £7 taxi to get to main Brockenhurst area, and if you fancy walking around 45 mins. Just bare in mind that the taxi service in Brockhenhurst is really not that efficient, there was time where we had to wait for an hour or so, so remember always pre-book your taxi and not just ad hoc calling them, as you might end up having to wait around for quite sometime. All in all, we personally WOULD NOT recommend this sites to any of our friends simply due to the unpleasantness and the extremely filthy state of the washing facilities as they were simply intolerable. We have been to many campsites this year, this is the worse we have been to so far (all around the same price too), gave us the impression that they just didn't care about hygene or the people who stay there.

We have just spent 2 nights at Roundhill, for our first taste of camping. We picked this site as it was so close to Beaulieu Motor Museum, about a ten minute drive away. The site is also near Brockenhurst which is quite a pretty village and not far from Lyndhurst too. The area is good for walking and cycling and spotting the horses and donkeys on the side of the roads and around the forest. The site has a small reception which sells milk and bread, on arrival you check in and they give you a site map and stickers for your car and tent, then you can go anywhere that takes your fancy. We were in the dog free area and found a nice spot between some trees at the back of the camp site. The ground here is so hard, the tent pegs would only go in about 3 Cm's before hitting something, everyone seemed to have the same problem when you looked around, as all the pegs were sticking up out of the ground, eventually we managed to get them in by going sideways. The site was quiet even though it is the middle of August, it could be the fact of all the rain that it was not full. There were 2 toilet blocks, which were quite dirty by the end of the day, but were clean again by morning. Wash cubicles, dish washing block, hot and cold water, drinking water and chemical toilet disposal areas, no electric hook ups or hard standing pitches. Our tent was invaded by a horse looking for food, but that made my 2 year olds holiday, who found it extremely funny to have a horse in his tent. Overall a good time was had, on a nice site, shame about the rain.

Had three days here and booked by the day during the week but the weekends were fully booked. Lovely site plenty of space in the week even though it was August and full school holiday period. Lovely area for kids to cycle and get lost on their adventures! I found the staff very helpful particularly when OH got lost in the dark trying to find way back from the Loo and they kindly drove me around the site to find him!

Mixed reaction to this one. Didn't know about the lack of showers (should have read previous reviews more closely), but very few loos and sinks to go around also. We had to queue to get in, even though we'd pre-booked . And although we arrived quite early in the day, it was very difficult to find somewhere suitable to pitch a tent. The ground is too solid to put pegs in - we could only get an inch or so in - which meant that the tent was rather unstable. The campsite was also packed (yes I know, it is July .) and we were plagued by small children playing football around our tent both at night, and early in the morning. Although not near the main road, there are 'artery' roads throughout the camp, and the only spot we could find was next to one . And next to a noisy water tank. We were supposed to be staying two nights, but packed up after one!

What a lovely peaceful weekend we had. The site wasn't full and the weather was lovely. The ponies wander freely and we didn't have too much trouble with them as we had dogs with us. There is an area set aside which is dog free what a good idea. The use of generators is restricted so you don't get disturbed by the noise. No showers but as already said, for a weekend that isn't too much of a problem. Toilets kept clean and plenty of fresh water not far from where you are camped. Will definitely plan to return here again.

We have just returned from a vist at Roundhill which we would recommed highly. It was our 3rd time at this site and it caters for everyone I feel as have been on our motorbike and as a party of people and we have just returned from going as a family. Toilets have never failed to be clean which is a great bonus. Some good days out we could recommend that arent too expensive are Longdown Activity farm in Ashurst - good as kids get hands on experience with the animals - and Moores Valley country park which is free but parking take a picnic though have big play area
Nikki I had a great time at Roundhill I love the ponys and had space to ride my bike. The washroom was little rooms and very clean. It was quiet for sleeping at night
