We visited this site at the weekend and found it to be a pleasant, clean friendly site. The staff were all very helpful and polite. There was plenty of room for the children to play as well as a wonderful play area which was a great hit with my 2 boys.
The toilet blocks were clean and tidy and there was always plenty of hot water. The shop was small but did carry a fair bit of stock which was reasonably priced.
This is a working farm so the children found it fascinating with the animals there.
We will visit this site again.

Site:
Good – clean overall, plenty of hot water, loads of space, not overfull despite the B/H weekend, great kids play area. Mostly quiet after 10pm. Option to go in next field with no marked pitches (no EHU though). Excellent serviced caravan hard standings. Excellent dog walks in the woods.
The things that let this site down are - showers (x4) not very child / family friendly, ie. very small. Site is a bit noisy in the evening - particularly the large groups (there didn’t seem to be any site rules to contain this). Also make sure you don’t pitch too close to the play area due to noisy kids / teenagers. Although I should add that the site is priced fairly for the facilities available.
Locally
Kids enjoyed the tram museum (10 minutes drive), and got to ride on trams.
Matlock Bath – best described as a seaside town without the beach. Go on the cable car and visit the caves. Great fish & chips and icecreams- many places to choose from. Beware though that if the traffic is bad it can take an hour to do the few miles up the main road, and parking is almost impossible (we parked free in the rugby club at the end of the Cromford canal and walked the 1.5m into Matlock Bath to avoid the climb back up to the site)
Matlock (not to be confused with Matlock Bath) has 4 butchers and an excellent bakery with the most amazing custard tarts. Plus there is a great small camping shop.
If you are trekking north…make sure you stop at the Eyre Arms in Calver. They really know how to serve a ploughman’s and their chip butties are a meal in themselves (plus there are great outdoor shops opposite)

When we arrived at the site my first thought was 'oh this looks nice'. There was a lovely kept play area for the children and although small, my children were off and introducing themselves to the other children within seconds. Then disaster struck. My hubby said 'have you got the money and I'll go register and pay'. I reached down to grab my bag (because I hold the money.Lol) and I realised I had left my bag at home. I Could not believe it as I am usually surgically attached to my bag, but hubby was rushing me. We were meeting some friends there who were arriving later that day, but as I could see it my only option was for us all to get back in the car and go home for my bag. The owner came over to us to see what the problem was, we explained and he said pitch your tent, have your selves a drink and we'll figure something out about the money later. He was so kind to us. When my friends arrived they had planned on paying by card but managed to copper up and make the wonderfully reasonable amount of £12.50 he was asking for. They had their bank card and we had planned on going into Matlock at night for the water show, so the owner just said pay me when you have it then. Could have kissed him.Lol
Onto the site though the toilets were perfect, clean and nothing to complain about. The showers looked like they could do with a little overhaul and there was only 2 at the main part and another 2 in another part of the site. The pitch was beautiful, nice and flat, with EHU. The kids spent most of the time in the play area.
I asked the lady in reception which was also a very small shop, how far to Matlock town on foot she said it was a very pleasant 20 minute walk through a pathed wood and gave us a map, so we thought why drive because parking would probably be a nightmare. We set off and An hour and 10 mins later we arrived in Matlock and we weren't walking slow. Felt slightly misguided and kids were all tired. We watched the show etc. And it was now pitch black and cold. We decided to get the bus back so we waited at the bus stop and eventually it came, we told him where we wanted to go and he charged us just under a tenner!, way more than what the car park would have been. A lady on the bus was staying at the same site and said she would show us the way because there was no lights at all. We got off after only one stop, so we could have walked and then the lady led us into the woods. I don't mind admitting I was scared, we had 3 small torches between 12 people and I can't describe just how dark it was. We all held hands and walked through the woods as fast as we could in single file, in total silence and a totally different way to the way we had come. We would have never found our way back if it wasn't for that lady.So my advice always take the car if you're going at night.Lol
As far as the site was concerned it was brilliant and we settled up with the owner in the morning. I would definitely recommend this site and would definitely go back.

5 of us stayed in 3 tents and a gazebo and it was lovely, we got there and go chatting to the couple that owned it who were funny, charming and very helpful!
The site is on a slope but couldn't say I noticed it overly. It did rain which made the place a bit muddy but again I'm not going to complain as this time of year what was I expecting!
Toilets and showers were nice and clean and much better than some I have used!
The only downside to this site is its location to a pub, which it says is within walking distance, let me assure you unless there is a way we never found that it inst! and also taxis are hard t get hold of!
Will be returning in summer though as I like the site!

We stayed at the site from a Thursday evening to the following Monday. The site is on a slope but we luckily camped on the highest part of the field. We have experienced various types of camping in the past and I must say that the site had beautiful views and was pleasant to stay at. As predicted, the field quickly filled up on the Friday/Saturday. Our young grandson easily made friends with others nearby and had a great time playing football etc.
The amenities were good, lovely clean toilet block and was regularly cleaned. I never went for a shower so I can't comment on that. The childrens play area was very busy at certain points of the day but looked great fun. As it was quite wet during our stay the area for playing table tennis was in great demand. It was a pleasure to go to the small site shop where they were friendly and chatty.
As previously stated we did have rain but having camped at the top of the field it didn't cause us any problems. However, going lower down the ground was more water logged.
I would willingly return to the site and with luck hope to in the following years.

Recently stopped at this site 9 in our party 4 adults 5 children.
Very friendly and co operative people run the site and can't do enough to help.
Very family orientated, kids are allowed to play and make noise with out being tutted at which is brilliant.
Lovely play area for children as well as a wooded area to explore. Lovely little shop for basics and for kids to buy toys or sweets.
No marked out pitches could be a plus or minus as the fields are slightly slopped but didn't ruin our stay.
Hot water for washing up and showers included in price which is very reasonable.
Only down side is there are not enough showers, toilets and sinks for the amount of people as there are three fields for camping and only 6 showers and six toilets, four washing up sinks. After saying that we did visit on a busy bank holiday weekend.
Set in a lovely area with beautiful scenery.
Would consider a return as it was so relaxing letting the children have some freedom.

Stayed for 3 nights. 4 Adults and a dog.
We loved this site. We were given a corner pitch which was enormous and although it was on a slope and caused a few problems, we didn't care - the views, the people, the weather all made up for it and we had a fantastic time.
The tent field was behind us and was quite full. There was lots of noise during the day, but it was a pleasant sound, the sound of laughter and of families enjoying themselves - at night, all was calm and we slept soundly.
There was a wood which ran along the perimeter of the site and took about 40 minutes to walk. Children off the site were playing in the woods, climbing trees, making dens and playing hide & seek etc and it was nice to see them - it took us back to our own childhood.
Walking a bit further afield takes you to the Cromford Canal where you can get a drink and sit and chill. We walked to Cromford Village, stopping for an ice cream along the way, then paid a visit to Arkwrights Mill with its craft shops and coffee shop. Our car only moved once, for a visit to Matlock Bath.
We cannot recommend this site highly enough. We thought the cost was very fair, the people very welcoming and the whole experience very enjoyable. Can't wait to go back.

We visited this site for a week at the beginning of August - The review is based on a tent with two adults and one young child.
Plus points:
Very cheap site; free hot showers; good childrens play area; clean well maintained toilets; useful small shop; Good hardstanding for caravans; excellent local walks (for the dog too); Wonderful scenary and places of interest.
Room for improvement:
Site was very busy at the weekend, several large groups descended and little or no effort seemed to be made to keep noise reasonable which was extremely disappointing; Too few (and sometimes dirty) showers although this is often down to the sheer number of people using them; The slope is very obvious on the pitches;
This is in many ways a great site (especially the price) but they really need to sort out the weekend issues (and we were told by others that that particular weekend was not unusual).

Just come back from this fantastic site we stayed Friday and Saturday and came home Sunday afternoon, it was our first visit. Shop, showers, toilets all very good, children's play area is lovely, our two little ones loved it. The surrounding area is beautiful, the children and the dog loved the woodland walks. We had a lovely hard standing pitch near to children's play area so we could keep an eye on the children from the caravan. Can't wait to go back, we are thinking of booking for the six week school holiday. We only live 25 mins away so we know the surrounding area, it is just a nice place to relax and let the children have some safe freedom. We would highly recommend this site and it is great value for money

We stayed here on Bank Holiday weekend so were expecting a bit of a Glastonbury style jam packed field full of tents, however, we were pleasantly surprised! Yes, it was busy, but there were sufficient places to pitch in the overspill field. The field wasn't too much of a walk to the toilet block and washing up facilities but was on quite a slope! The toilet block isn't huge and there were limited showers, but if you pick your shower time carefully you shouldn't need to queue. The toilets and showers were always nice and clean with plenty of toilet roll!
Overall, a nice site with friendly owners and good facilities.
