This is the best site we have visited! it does get rather busy over the weekends and I certainly would not consider it on a bank holiday but midweek it is ideal! The toilets and showers are quite well looked after although I can't believe the state some people chose to leave them! It is in a picturesque location. It helped that most days it was warm and sunny although the nights were rather chilly. It is an ideal spot for the tramway museum and all Matlock attractions. It was great value for money and they even threw in a free night that we hadn't been told of when we booked! We stayed for 9 nights. Our kids aged 5 and 8 loved the freedom to roam that they can't have in inner city Sheffield. The play area was a real hit with them too. We will be back next year for a midweek stay!

This is a wonderful and very friendly family run site, where you are always sure of a warm and friendly face. The site is slightly sloping and surrounded by wonderful Derbyshire countryside. There are plenty of facilities on site. There are six showers on site and not as some people say only 4. It only takes but a moment to find them If you ask one of the staff, plus there are two other toilet blocks on site as well as the main block.
This is a site for all ages and has very few rules but the two main ones are that there are no open fires on site and that there is no noise after 11 o'clock. Both of which are regularly checked on through out the early and late evening by the staff who are frequently walking around the site, some times until very late at night during busy weekends and bank holidays. I would recomend this site at any time of the season to any one that enjoys being out in the countryside, where children can play and we regulars to the site can chill out over a few beers and recharge our batteries.

We got this lovely site off the internet and we were satisfied with it. Me and my partner and our 2 children aged 4 and 2 came on the Tuesday and stayed 3 nights at 10 pound a night for our 6 berth tent and we must say it was well worth it. Lovely walks to the pub and the back lane to Cromford, but dont get us wrong its a bit of a trek but we all really enjoyed it. It rained a little bit on our first day but it didn't put our children off as there was lots of cows on the walk and my kids made up a song about country cows. The lady that owned the site and worked in the shop was very polite and stocked everything you can think of, she even gave the kids toys and prams to play with. Hot lovely showers and toilets all very clean. I'd reccommend this site for anybody.

This site is possibly more suited for families with older children. Ours are 6 & 2.5 and although the playground area is very good, the older children were always there making it pretty impossible for ours to be able to play. Also it was noisy at night until near 11pm with the other children still being up and even playing football with some of the dads right by our tent, again difficult to get young ones off to sleep. The site was good, with freedom to choose your pitch, but it is obvious they take large family groups which does increase the noise levels. The shop is very well stocked as in previous reviews, and the old lady is very abrupt and rude. The facilities are ok, but the toilets were pretty dirty with toilet paper all over the floors at all times of the day/night. Showers good hot water, but a bit cramped cubicles if you're in there with a child. Lovely wood surrounding the site and short drive into Matlock Bath - endless chip shops and amusement arcades. Reasonably priced, but again, not the best site if you like peace and quiet and somewhere for young children to enjoy themselves.

We really enjoyed our stay here. the toilet blocks & showers are very clean, although there was no toilet paper in the morning! The kids love the playground there & both the kids & dog loved walking in the woods. There is a games room in the barn for if it is raining, there is a little shop on site which sells everything you may have forgotton to bring. There is even plants & hanging baskets on sale at the greenhouse there. definitely a place to visit again

We visited this site on a busy bank holiday weekend and were pitched in the second field on a slope. The site was very busy and the third field was open with knee high grass and people were pitched on it.It rained for most of the weekend and the site became very sludgey. The toilets had no paper at one point and the showers were cold. There are no rules as to what time to quieten down and the family in the tent beside us stayed up until about 3 am with music on. On the plus side the childrens playground is nice but we were pitched too far away to let them go play. Campfires are allowed if you bring your own wood and matlock is a lovely place to visit. I imagine that if you get an electric hook up pitch, which are a lot closer to the facilities, are going out of the busy season and like the freedom of having no bed time it could be nice although I dont think we would return.

Site was in a beautiful setting, the kids really enjoyed playing in the woods and it felt very safe. Toilets were reasonably clean. The site was very full as it was Bank Holiday but our pitch (with electric hook-up) was great with loads of space & backed onto the woods. Play area was good & we were in a good spot so the kids could just go and play & we didn't have to stand & watch. A few children could have done with being watched more closely as they seemed to cause trouble but that's not the site's fault. Unfortunately because it was full there was always a queue for the showers as 4 doesn't seem to be enough for the whole site. The washing up area even had queues. Plenty of hot water for the showers & washing up. Only had a problem one night when I wanted to wash my face & there wasn't any water at all in the main block! All-in-all it is a basic site but in a beautiful setting & handy for visiting places, we didn't want to come home!

I like this site and so do the kids. The owners are friendly and always there to help. The lady there runs a fantastic little shop selling everything from hot chocolate to 10 penny mix-ups for the kids. The playground is great and caters for all ages. The site is edged by a fantastic birch wood (hence the name) and my son and daughter find endless things to do in here - exploring, building dens or just collecting sticks and leaves. There's even an indoor barn kitted out for table tennis. The showers are fine - always hot water. All in all a great value site offering excellent facilities at fantastically low prices. I've stayed here in August and in April. It was busier in August but by no means packed and I definitely didn't have to wait around for showers or sinks.

This was my first time camping. I thought it was a lovely friendly place. The staff were polite and helpful. The facilities were kept clean. The shop/reception was brilliant everything we wanted they had it in. My daughter loved it as she could roam around and play on the park without me shadowing her. The ground was a little rough where we pitched but that was our fault! I think this site is a little Gem. It could do with a pub on site though.

We have just come back from four nights at this camp site. What a fabulous place. Really clean and although the site was very busy it was not cramped and we never once had to queue for a shower or toilet. The camp shop is really well stocked and very cheap. They have table tennis tables in a barn for bad weather and a play park for the little ones. The site is in the middle of woods and there are some lovely walks around the camp. The only bad points are the TV reception. We went out and bought a top of the range camping ariel with a huge mast but still no reception. We checked with the other campers and everyone seemed to be having the same problem. We came to the conclusion that it was simply the surrounding environment that blocked the signal. And finally, don't use an AA autoroute to get there. It sends you in completely the wrong direction and up the side of a mountain that would make any four by four struggle without a caravan. Anyway, we would not hesitate to visit again, highly recommended.
