I spent a week here last year for a quick change from my usual site up the road and I must say the site is lovely, nice staff and clean facilities.

Lots to do in the area for both adults and kids alike. Not great views but you will see so much when your out that doesn't really matter, all in all a nice stay.

We had (2 adults and a dog) a lovely time at this campsite and the owners were very friendly. We had a lovely 3 nights here but the weather was on our side. It wasn't over busy but they did space us all out so we had more room and space. It was a short drive into cromford and Matlock.

They were building a new shop / showers and toilet facilities so this will look fab when its done. One thing you have to buy from the shop is the free range eggs from there chickens they was lovely. All in all had a lovely time and will be visiting again.

The site itself is a little off the beaten track so very peaceful, especially at night. Facilities are relatively basic but you would expect that given the prices. Showers warm, clean and spacious and toilets in good condition. Shop is very basic and does not sell alcohol.

We visited on the last weekend of the season and the weather was atrocious. As the entire site is on a slope (well. You are in the Peak District!), this meant that lower-level pitches suffered with waterlogging. Not really the site's fault but worth knowing for reference.

Surrounding area is great and you can walk to Matlock in less than an hour or through the forest down to the riverside in less than 10 minutes.

We had a really enjoyable weekend here. The playground is smashing for the kids, who enjoyed careering around in the field just as much as playing on the play equipment.

The owners were very friendly and helpful and were OK with us being so late we arrived in the dark. The loo blocks were lovely and clean - the showers were a bit basic but they were lovely and clean and there was plenty of hot water.

Nearby there were nice woodland walks - good for bikes if we had had them. Great surroundings. Would definitely go back.

Great for families, far away from civilisation so no annoying noises during the night. The tent pitches are a bit sloped, so make sure you think about where you will lie. The kids playground is good, and there is a lovely forest walk accessed straight from the site. Sadly there was lots of litter in the forest, but nobody could blame the site for this.

The amenities are clean and the site is small enough to feel like your kids can't really get into any danger. I'll be going back.

Thank God there are Campsites like this left (very few though) where you are not bombarded with signposts with do's and don'ts. The whole site is non commercialised and oozing atmosphere. Tents, caravans and campervans all blending in together with no them and us. A real holiday atmosphere. It was my privilege to visit this site in August for the first time and subsequently returned within a month. Yes it may be a little off the beaten track, but once there it is difficult to pull yourself away

I look forward to going back and hope the owners carry on running this little gem for a long time to come. There is very little (if any) need for improvement so 'if it aint bust don't fix it'

Finding the site was not that easy and check in was a nightmare, huge que as shop is tiny, when I finally was seen the person on the desk was not that friendly and I was disappointed they didn't take cards (being so remote I thought they should have a machine)so we had to drive to a nearby town (15 mins there and back)once back I had to wait again. Then it was just 'pick a field 2 or 3?. Field 2 was full so we camped on the remotest part of the field right at the top.

The shank to the loos was a good 7 mins (needs a loo and a shower block on boundary of field 2 and 3) The showers weren't spotless, and having only 4 meant a 20 min wait outside till they were free.

The fields are sloped and the grass long. For £13 per night I was disappointed

This place is great, the showers and toilets were really clean. Showers a little small but then again your not staying in the hilton ! I've got 2 kids who from Wednesday till Sunday we never saw, they loved it, played on the park and in the woods. The place is very dog friendly too.

This place also does ice pack swaps at 60p each. Handy for those of us who are none electric.

My opinion is this place is well worth a visit we are planning on returning at the end of August

As this site is fairly local (40 mins) and it seemed to have fair reviews we thought we'd give it a whirl. At £14 per pitch per night with EHU in the height of August it was a bargain too for the 4 of us. The approach to the site is via a narrow road through an amazing woodland setting to reveal a camping oasis at the end. When we arrived we checked in at the shop. If you're unsteady on your feet the steep steps down are a bit hazardous so be warned. The shop is small but seems to be like a tardis and stocks a fair variety. They can also order newspapers for you too. We were shown in the direction of our pitch. Thankfully the EHU pitches are more level than the rest of the site but we still needed a tin of tuna to level the legs out on our table! Well drained though and the grass was neat and the ground was perfect for tent pitching. The piches were fairly spacious (for EHU) and at a guess about 10m square easily. The first field was in three tiers and was nearest to the main toilet blocks. Fields 2 and 3 were much further away and there were no facilities in these two fields so a bit of a hike whenever you needed the loo so bare this in mind. There were extra toilet/shower facilities to the left/rear of the main toilet block but I assume these were for the seasonal tourers and statics, of which there were quite a number. The main toilet/shower block had ladies (4 or 5 loos) and gents (never used these so don't know) a disabled washroom and 4 unisex showers. I think given the size of the site these are woefully inadequate and we had to queue a number of times, not only for showers but toilets too. Not good if you're desperate. The facilities that were available were clean though and fairly modern. It was only the sheer volume of campers that made them a little grubby but they appeared to be cleaned regularly. The showers were individual units and they had a changing area with seat, bin and all important clothes hook prior to a small shower cubicle with curtain. The showers didn't have that awful push button/one temperature suits all contraption, instead it had a hot and cold tap and you could mix the temperature to your own personal taste. Perfect. I had a lovely cold shower after putting the tent up in hot sticky conditions and a lovely warm shower the following day. Maybe not so good if you expect younger children to shower independently though. They were free too and plenty of hot water. There was a good undercover pot washing area close to the kids adventure playground which was handy. The elsan point was near the playground too. There is also an undercover table tennis area and masses of space and woodland to play in and explore.

As I was born only a mile or two up the road I'm bound to be biased about the surrounding area. Crich Tramway Museaum is a fab (fairly cheap) day out for a family of four. £29.50 for 2 adults and up to 3 kids and this was then valid for a year to return whenever you wanted. We had a wonderful day there riding up and down the hillside on the various trams. The view from the top is to die for by the way. The lighthouse thingy you can see from the campsite is in fact a war memorial and if you're at Crich it's worth the drive up the hill a little more to see the view from this tower, you can see for miles. Matlock Bath is only a few miles further up the A6 and is like the seaside without the beach but has all the amusement arcades, chip shops and tacky gift shops any self respecting coastal resort wouldn't be without. It's also a mecca for biking enthusiasts on a Sunday in particular. If you're into this you must go and have a look, you won't be disappointed. There's also Gullivers Kingdom as well as cable cars at the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath although we didn't do these. Further on from Matlock Bath is Matlock town and this is where the nearest major supermarket is (Sainsburys) as well as a lovely park with a boating lake and outdoor paddling pool. Matlock also has an indoor pool too. Further afield you'll find some fab National Trust properties like Hardwick Hall & Kedleston Hall as well as privately owned places like Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. Carsington water and Dovedale are also close by so plenty to keep all tastes entertained. We'll definitely be going back to this site and whilst it isn't the height of luxury it does represent excellent value for money in a truly wonderful location in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales.

Spent two nights here on the way to Stratford and although the weather wasn't too good, we found the site to be very good value for money. It is very spacious, clean toilets and showers and a good park for the children.

There are loads of walks and bike rides and near to a vast range of local attractions.

Following a week in Stratford, we were happy to return to this site for a further three nights and had an absolutely superb time.

We will be returning. I think this place and the area is great.!
