Just got back from 3 nights stay here, was a lovely site we didn't book in advanced, staff were helpful enough and we got a electric hookup pitch it was on a slope but it is Derbyshire so its expected.
Shop had everything basic you might need plus some essential camping equipment. Toilets and showers were clean on the down side the showers were a little small, but they were hot.
This was our last camp for the year and it wont be the last time we come here.
Its cheap, friendly, matlock just down the road, quiet even when busy, child friendly.

We stayed 2 nights at this very good site. The staff were very helpful staff and the shop was well stocked.
It was busy due to the fireworks and illuminations in Matlock Bath but we had no queues for the free showers although they were quite small.
Allocated pitches was really helpful but chocks were necessary as the pitches are on sloping ground as it's all on a hillside which gives lovely views.
This is one site we would visit again if we're in the area as the cost was very reasonable and everything was clean and tidy. Recommended!

Nice site, very nice surrounding. There was a nice forest style walk below the site on the hillside.
The site was ok although make sure you take your levelling chocks with you. Our rear legs were out to the highest and the hitch was resting on the ground.
Even though we didn't have any kids there did appear to be enough for them to do, play area games room etc.
The only criticism we have is the showers. All though they was fine (individual cubicles stone built and free) there was only 4 showers for the whole site. There was lots of people queuing so if you gonna use them, get in early or late.

We visited this site with two families with children. The site is set in fabulous countryside with beautiful views and next to a woods. The playground was lovely while we were there the swing broke and was fixed immediately.
We were in the camping field without hook up not many water taps. The toilets were very clean and showers but probably could do with a few more but never had to wait.
The price of the site is half that of some sites in the same area although more toilets would improve it. Lovely shop with plenty of basics sweets and toys for kids.
A bit slopey pitch but lots of space. Close to beautiful walks matlock etc and value for money. Slight whiff of cow poo but you are on a farm.
In summary a really lovely site would definitely visit again

We visited over the bank holiday weekend (4 adults 2 children) and expected the site to be busy, we were in field 3 which is the furthest away from the facilities and it was quite a walk, especially with children, to use them.
My sister and her family were arriving after us which I explained to the man in reception, he immediately asked if I had both tents with me which I did, I was told I couldn't pitch the second tent unless I paid for it which I had to do to prevent anyone else pitching too close to us.
The site is on a slope which can be a bit of a nuisance, pans sliding about on the cooker etc, but this could be remedied with some non-slip matting which I forgot to take with me.
The children absolutely loved it, there is a nice little play area and plenty of space for them to run about in and lots of other children for them to play with. They particularly enjoyed a spooky walk in the woods after dark.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, we visited Matlock Bath, it was incredibly busy and we struggled to find parking spaces but it is well worth a visit also the villages Cromford and Wirksworth are lovely.
The main problems I had with the site was the sheer number of people there, and the facilities which are completely inadequate for the amount of people. There are 7 toilets for women, the same for men and 4 showers, you had to queue for everything, toilets, showers, washing up, even the table tennis room and play area.
There is no shower block as such, the showers are 4 cubicles at the back of the toilet block and you wait outside for them so when it rains there is no shelter. When I used the showers they were dirty, and there is only 1 hook although there is a little bench to leave your things on.
If the owners of this site spent some money on it I would return, it needs more showers and toilets for the over spill fields, there isn't even a water point in field 3, as it is I will not be returning as there are much better campsites in the same area.

Had a fab stay here this weekend. Really big and busy site (so was a little noisy in the evening but no noise after 10. 30 worked well)
Plenty of open space for the kids to play and a brilliant forest to explore. Great hike to the nearest pub. A good 40mins (with a 3yr old) uphill on the way there, but stunning views made it all worthwhile!
The only downside of this great site is there are only 4 showers, which, although they are free, is not enough for the size of the site, I queued for a good 20mins!
All in all though a well run site with a well stocked little shop, pleasant staff and good facilities - we will definitely visit again

We decided to try this campsite as a friend of ours was staying here and we wanted to try out our trailer tent.
As it was a last minute decision we were only able to book on field 3, this is the furthest from the toilets, showers, shop etc.
Upon arrival we were given a map of the camp site showing all the water points ect.
We had a fantastic weekend here, our kids loved playing on site and made new friends straight away, the facilities were good, the small shop stocked most things and even ordered a paper for you to collect, take aways can be delivered to site for you.
There is a childs play area and a old barn with table tennis in for the kids to use.

This was our first camping holiday and therefore we have no baseline with which to compare this site. However, it did exceed our expectations both in terms of facilities/presentation and value for money.
The pitches with EHU were clearly marked, close to the shop, toilet and showers and very well maintained; we saw no litter throughout the weekend. There were predominantly young families on these pitches, and several dogs (neither of which caused any problem!)
There were a further two (unserviced) camping fields which seemd to accommodate mainly larger groups, and whilst there was some noise on the Saturday evening (sounded like they were having some great parties) this did stop at the 11. 00pm 'curfew'
Washing-up is a covered outdoor area, and whilst there were queues at busy times there was always plentiful hot water.
Showers and toilets were always clean (and the latter well-stocked with toilet paper). I never had to queue for the showers but did witness 3-4 people waiting on a couple of occasions. However, the queues never seemed to last more than a couple of minutes and again, hot water was always plentiful.
The shop was first rate. I really feel you could have rolled up with nothing apart from your tent and find everything you needed here. Prices were very reasonable too.
Site location was very picturesque, with great views over the countryside and some lovely rural walks.
We paid £29 for two nights inc. EHU which we felt was fantastic value, especially for a July weekend. There was so much to do in the local area and we will definitely be returning sometime soon

Stayed there in a large tent, 4 adults, 3 children under 8( 3 generations) and 2 dogs. We had a great time, the kids loved the play area and lots of walks for the dogs.
Yes they could do with some more showers, toilets etc in busy times but if you go at less busy times of day there is no problems. The water is always hot and the on site shop is great.
The shop is well stocked with all sorts of things you and your kids may need. There is a lovely walk (approx 35 mins) on a footpath to The Malt Shovel pub. What great people, not only is the food all home cooked and a good price they make you so welcome, good beer too. Once they knew we had kids they inflated the bouncy castle and even gave them goody bags. The dogs were welcome into the bar area of the pub and given doggy chews.
There is a small farm shop next door to it that sells wonderful burgers, sausages etc, milk from their own cows that we drank loads of.

Just got back from a 2 night stay at Birchwood Farm Campsite, the site is very large, spread out over 4 fields with the toilets/showers/washing up area etc all at one end meaning if you are pitched in the furthest away field you have a long walk to use the loo.
There are 4 toilets in the ladies and 3 sinks, perfectly clean with hot water and always loo roll in them but nowhere near enough for the amount of people using them.
The same with the showers, we didn't even bother trying to shower because we had heard so many people saying how long they had to wait for them, apparently men and women share the showers and there are a total of 4 for everybody! We made do with a baby wipe wash yesterday and just jumped straight in the shower when we got home today.
The first field where the EHU is looks good, very flat. The next field, were we were pitched is on quite a steep slope and it made pitching the tent and finding the best sleeping position quite tricky.
It also make standing up a glass of wine on the table tricky- things just kept sliding off the wonky table and tipping up! However, there were no set pitches, you could go wherever you wanted and weren't restricted by size.
There is a playpark on site which looked nice (we don't have children) however it seemed to be thronged with teenagers when we walked passed it a few times so not really good for little ones. The shop is located in reception and stocks all the essentials including disposable bbq's, windbreaks etc.
This is definitely a nice addition as the site itself is quite remote and the nearest shop etc is a fair distance away. It is a lovely setting though, down the narrow, tree lined track to the site- very pretty.
The site was very busy this weekend, the staff seemed to be a bit rushed and were quite abrupt, they didn't really give us any information or show us anything when we arrived, the lady just took our money, gave us a map and pointed to a field on the map and said 'pitch in here anywhere'.
We were disappointed with the site to be honest, maybe we didn't do enough research into it, that could be our fault but in our opinion, the site is just too big with not enough guidelines set out to make it enjoyable for everyone.
We will not be returning, it is a shame because there is potential there for it to be lovely with a little bit of TLC.
