A mixed bag of a site here. Have just returned from a 2 night stay, over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Plus points: very accomodating about times you can arrive, allow you to pitch where you like*, clean toilet facilities of which there are 2 blocks, small shop selling essentials, fantastic location right on the high peak trail, small play park for the little ones.
Not so plus points: *by pitching where you like you can go out and find someone's pitched too close for comfort, no noise rules in the evening (this I would imagine will only affect those with small children - like us), only 2 decent showers, the other 2 were very poor, intermittent hot water at dish washing point, the 2 overflow fields are quite a way from the showers/toilets so people dirve to them! (at night this can be a little inconsiderate).
Caravan facilities looked good (hard standing with indivdual water and ehu points) and/but are very close to the play park.
If you're in a tent and have small children you have to be prepared to compromise. You can pitch near(ish) to the park and allow the kids some freedom but by being close to the park the noise in the late evening can be an issue.
This site would be right up lots of people's street and a few rules on noise levels, a bit more organisation re pitching and I think this could be very good indeed - as it stands for us with 2 small children we won't be returning but can see why people would.

We visited this site based on previous reviews and was not disapointed. Site is very slopped so nothing stays on a table but if you have a sense of humor then there you go! This site was busy on arrival but we had no problem locating a pitch. Owners/staff were very helpful. Facilities were basic and clean. Had a really handy tardis of a shop that im sure if you asked even had bits for passanger aircraft in stock!
Be prepared for a long walk to facilities if you have to pitch up in over spill fields.
Pot washing facilities available with no shortage of hot water.
Have 3 young kids that enjoyed the space to run about and play in the enclosed playground. The entry in off the road invites you into woodland drive which is nice.
I would go again.

Our first weekend away with a new caravan. Very nice site, good clean toilet block and free clean showers, toilet block is small but adequate no queuing at peak times. Very well stocked shop, site owners very friendly and helpful. Site is sloped, pitches not cramped, access good but is very sloped. Facilities well labeled and very accessible. Matlock is 10 minutes in the car, too far to walk. Local attractions include rowing boats, arcades, and very good fish and chips.

This is a lovely site with welcoming owners that run a nice little shop in the reception area. The big downside to the site is not enough toilets. We stayed on the back field at the top of the site and had to walk into the middle field to get to the toilets or pot washing room. Kids play area is lovely but I didnt like the way it was next to the entry to the site, I couldnt relax with my children on there. The children also have woodland right behind the play area which I think could be easy wondered into. Other than these couple of bad points we enjoyed our stay but I dont think I will be visiting again.

Mad as we are we came for Easter with friends to this site. But Despite sub zero temperatures and 4 ' of snow which was hardly the campsites fault what did I think of the site?
Its a nice site with friendly owners, but I do agree with the views made elsewhere that the facilities although clean and looked after would prove a little inadequate when busy. Of course in the artic weather we had no cause for concern. But our friends in their caravan did, as the power hook up failed first because of a dodgy breaker, and then on the Saturday night because of a transformer fault (not the campsites fault again) which blacked the whole site out until late Sunday. This meant no showers, hot water in taps or light (Our friends have stayed here before and commented that they had power problems previously).
As a tenter and not dependant on hook up this did not bother us too much, but the lack of showers was a minor concern for us, but the power loss caused a few problems for others.
Our main problem was the butane canisters freezing up which made keeping warm difficult.
On the whole this site would be lovely in warmer weather, but in inclement weather it was not ideal. Many caravaners had problems as the grass became very muddy and several people had need of the owners 4x4 to get on pitch. Some had problems getting off the grass in cars alone, so take note, if its wet. Slip and slide.
Facilities good, Matlock not far and its a peaceful and beautiful location to camp in, and I will return here again. But not in March and not in a cold snap.

We went to this site with some friends (6 units) three caravans, one tt and one motorhome + a folding camper. The site is mostly sloping but there is some hard standing piches that are level, the toilets as said in other reviews good. The staff are very helpful and friendly, as one of our party found out: the grass was a bit wet so they got their 4X4 out to put him on site and then helped to level the van up on the slope and also helped him to sort out his broken jocky wheel. Also information on where the best take aways are at. Matlock Bath is just up the road. There is a good dog walking area also next to the site. A barn has table tennis tables set up and it can also be used for private funcions. We will be using this site again next year.

We had a lovely stay at this campsite. It is in a lovely location with good amenities. We hardly saw the children when we were at the campsite. There is a playground, table tennis tables, the wood and the shop. The shop is a great place, small, with the essentials for camping but to the great delight of the children packed with stuff that they could buy with their pocket money. We thought the lady in the shop was lovely. She had untold patience, especially when confronted with small children clutching money and unable to decide what they wanted! There is free hot water, the showers are fine, if a little cramped, and we never queued to use anything. The site was quite busy but as to be expected so close to the bank holiday. My only complaint would be the noise at night (after 9pm). This was mainly at the playground and was not the fault of the owners. I would suggest that it is best to ask not be pitched near the playground. Overall a nice campsite, particularly for families which was great value for money and we would go again.

Decided to take the new tent out just for 1 night and went to Birchwood as it is local. I was surprised by the size of the site. I booked in advance but there was no need as although busy there was plenty of space. The toilet block was clean, but I felt it was small for the amount of people on site. I feel that at bank holidays and busy periods it would be to small. Generally the site is well laid out with large pitch spaces. The price was brilliant £10 for the four of us our friend paid £5 as she was on her own. The showers were free. Groups of teenagers were drinking and rather loud but to be fair at 11pm they became quiet. It is a site I would use again but due to my concerns regarding the toilets I would not visit at a bank holiday.

Have just got back from a 3 day weekender. Have to say, the site was fantastic. The facilities were spotlessly clean, and despite the fact that the site was the busiest they'd ever been, it was enough. The highlight of the weekend was Saturday night, when someone at the furthest field started playing "Bogies", and the whole campsite joined in. The little shop is well stocked and the prices are very reasonable. The staff are all friendly and helpful, and keep the site clean and presentable. The children's play area is well looked after, and the table tennis barn is brilliant. Shame about the people who decide to just leave their rubbish in there though. All in all, I would highly recommend this site to families. Beautiful woodlands around, and not far from Matlock or Ripley.

A very pleasant, clean site, set in beautiful surroundings, ideal if you want to chill and get away from it all. There are a couple of pubs within a short driving distance, and Matlock and all its attractions are a few miles away. Toilets and showers were always clean and free, with plenty of hot water. Washing up facilities were also clean and plentiful. The children's playground was well thought out and maintained, and the fencing meant little ones were safe in there, with no danger of straying. The owners were very friendly, useful little shop, and even a jump start when my battery was flat. Couldn't have wished for more!
