Bank Holiday weekend was extremely busy, and the main camp field was full.
Great location and many good walks nearby. Birchover village only 2 minutes walk, and the local shop has everything you need. The first pub is the Red Lion and is very relaxed and friendly (welcomes walkers and dogs), The Druids Arms on the other hand is much less so.
Facilities on site are really good and staff very helpful.
If you want a camp site with no restrictions over where to pitch and have a large party who want to stay close together - this is the perfect site for you (suited us great). If you prefer regimented pitches then look elsewhere.

Just spent bank holiday weekend at barn farm me, him the three kids n the dog. Loved it! excellent, clean and well stocked facilities, helpful staff who are always on hand either emptying bins, cleaning toilets or helping people out! There is a local village shop just outside the site. The pub is nice although food is good it was a little expensive. We did not even get a look in at the Druids arms as tables were usually booked up, which was disappointing as it came highly recommended! there were a couple of walks we went on up the moor which was nice, the weather could have been better, far too windy, but at least it wasn't wet!
The only area where I think the site could be better is the introduction of a play area for the kids, there seemed to be lots of families with kids but they seemed to stick to there tents I think it would be beneficial to the site and the kids! Would definitely return to Barn Farm, it has a great friendly and safe atmosphere!

Pleasant site in a quiet and out of the way location. On arrival, we were offered a Hard Standing pitch, which we accepted and ended up on the courtyard adjacent to the toilet and shower block. However, during our 3 night stay over Easter, we were quite grateful to be so close to the facilities, as a lot of the pitches were quite remote. A lot of tents on the site, and also a rather unusual concept of two or three communal dormitory type buildings, which, while great for the youngsters, gave the slight impression that we were staying at a type of youth hostel.
Surrounding area great for gentle walks, and interesting local history.
Two hostelries within walking distance, one nice boozer with food (boots welcome) but the other appeared to cater for more upmarket diners.

Visited this site arriving on a Sunday and leaving on Thursday. Most of the field used for weekend campers was empty and we chose the field to the right of reception, which had a lovely walk up on to Stanton peak just at the back of it.
The staff where very helpful and the site was clean and tidy. Plenty of free hot water and never a queue for the showers.
Three children from 7 to 15 had lots of room to play football etc and rope swings in the trees proved to be a big hit, as did the free roaming peacocks.
No shop on site, Village shop 5 min walk, and large supermarket about 5 miles away so never a problem. Birchover has two pubs and the Red lion is an interesting old pub staffed by friendly people. Also a small park in the village.
Easy to get to lots of different areas from this site as A6 is only a short drive. Also plenty of public footpaths both from the site and the village.
All in all a very good site and we will be returning.

Just come back from another great weekend at this site. This is the third weekend we've been here this year. The site is excellent. Toilet blocks are always clean and the showers hot. A new shower block has opened since our last visit and these are excellent. The staff are friendly and there is security at night to stop any excessive noise, although this didn't appear to be in operation as we were kept awake by a noisy bunch on the second night. The site has peacocks and alpacas and there are plenty of walks in the countryside. The main field is huge but can get very busy at weekends and you can get people pitching a bit close to you. There are 2 other fields, both of which are on a slope, and a caravan area.
The village has 2 nice pubs but the meals are a bit expensive. Bakewell and Matlock are only a few minutes drive away.
Well worth a visit for a weekend and we will cetainly be back soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Barn Farm. Set in a really nice location, lovely looking farm and buildings with cows, sheep, peacocks etc. Toilets and showers clean, more showers were being built whilst we were there. Friendly staff. Really nice area to do some walking which we did Please note: there is no cash machine in the village, we went for a nice meal at the Red Lion just down the road and had to get cash back there. Red Lion recommended, nice old fashioned pub, really nice meals at a good price.

Have just come back from a week at Barn Farm, and cannot recommend it enough, we had 3 vans, and as the weather was so bad we was put in the little area next to the stall, which was lovely with hardstanding, the people at the stall are also lovely, we spend loads of time talking to them and getting tips of the best walks to go on in the area.
Site facilities are good, loads of loo's always clean and well stocked with paper, nice big spacious showers (was a bit dubious about the communal ones, but found the others behind reception). I never had a problem with hot water, no matter what time of day. Also we made use of the free sauna, which comes in very handy after a long walk!
The views are fantastic, with plenty of walks to go on,
Nice little village shop which stocks all the basics, and 2 pubs.
All the staff seem friendly, and work hard keeping the site clean and tidy.

We have just returned from a week at this site and we were really impressed with it. At first we were a little apprehensive as the only showers we came across were communal but then we found the 4 showers behind reception and so relaxed. There are plenty of toilets and the showers were huge, 2 new showers were opened whilst we were there and they looked a very good size too. A bonus feature is the free sauna with its own shower which is lovely after a day on the moors. The campsite is ideally situated for walking and cycling with a footpath running through the site, it is also a short drive to Bakewell and Matlock. We will definitely return to this site and enjoyed it so much we even enquired about a seasonal pitch, but unfortunately there is a 20 caravan waiting list.

Booked well in advance for a EHU pitch but when arrived, due to very wet weather, the field was almost boggy close to the EHU points but we were offered an alternative spot which was level and offered an extension if our lead was not long enough.
We loved the Alpacas, sheep and the 8 or more peacocks but were not impressed when our children who were merely observing the peacocks and not chasing them, were accused of chasing them :-( by someone watering the plants. The kids wanted to see them not frighten them and understand to stay as still as possible.
The reception staff were great and very helpful.
The toilets were always clean, there are many loos so apart from cleaning time, there was never a queue. There are communal showers which, we didn't fancy using and then 4 other showers. During the very busy weekend, the showers were lovely and hot but on the Monday & Tuesday when the site had very few campers, the water was cold on more than one occasion which wasn't very nice. There are new showers being built, these look excellent but not sure if they will be for tenters and caravaners or for those who rent the barns.
The nearest pub was very nice, packed at the weekend but closed on the Monday and Tuesday.
The village shop was well stocked and the staff very nice - close enough to the site to walk to.
Very close to 9 ladies and some fabby walks but despite liking this site, we would not visit again, can't put my finger on why not, it is a lovely site but for the amount of time we spent there, the kids were bored and maybe it has to do with the fact that we weren't pitched on a main field.
Still a site that everyone should visit. Excellent value for money!

After reading many of the reviews on this site we (as a family) were looking forward to visiting this site but unfortunately were left disappointed.
Why? it was mentioned in previous reviews that this site had a 'festival' atmosphere and to be honest this is a very perceptive observation. Mainly due to the fact that it meets certain criteria that festivals always have; too much noise, loud music everywhere and twenty some things being loud and drunk!
Looking for a family site I cannot recommend this site. I did not appreciate for instance that someone was allowed to pitch a tent near ours at 11pm on friday night which of course meant car headlights and loud music to accompany the ensuing obvious hilarity(!) of trying to pitch a tent with one hand whilst beer was in the other. Don't get me wrong I am not a killjoy but I think that the site is just 'greedy' to allow people on the site at that time of night when there were other people with children (some very small) trying to get to sleep. In fact we had to put up with noise from this group until at least 3am.
With the amount of people camping on saturday night the facilities were obviously at breaking point. The toilets were revolting to the point where I had to hold my 5 year old above the toilet seat.
A beautiful place marred by people who couldn't care less about the countryside and more interested in making lots of noise and drinking excessively!
Enjoy your stay!
