We went here for a Friday and Saturday night in August, the weekend we had torrential rain.!
Only our second camping trip, so pitching on a slight slope wasn't noticed until we went to bed at night, and realised that we were rolling a bit to my side! The views we had were fantastic.
The site facilities were pretty good although it would have been nice to have some paper towels in the toilet block as I, and everyone else I saw, never thought to take a towel down.
We camped in the top field at the back of the site, and it was really quiet when we got there on the Friday. Then we were joined on one side by two families who had parked their car pretty close to ours (just enough room to open our car door!), and then a while later two people in separate cars came and parked on the other side of our tent, again pretty close (I'd say about 8 ft away ). They were joined by 8-10 other cars through the evening and had 3 tents! The cars were coming and going and slipping on the damp grass. They also had pretty loud music on, which we realised we were the only ones it really affected - we couldn't hear the music once we'd walked past them! However, about midnight they turned the music down and just talked til about one then there was lots of door slamming etc while about 5 of the cars disappeared. More annoying were the kids of the tents on the other side which were running up and down within 2 feet of our tent until about 1am. Screaming and shouting and trying to scare each other. Think it was getting a bit late for all that really.
That said, the people working at the site were really helpful and welcoming, the people in the noisy music/car party were very friendly and the people who parked really close did apologise! The views are outstanding, there are lovely walks all around, and best of all, the water buffaloes are just too cute for words!
We would go back again, but not on a weekend! Our first camping trip was Fieldhead at Edale, which was just perfect for us, this was maybe just a bit too busy for us!
Just make sure you find a level pitch!

I stayed in one of the camping barns at this campsite, it was my first time in a camping barn and I'd definitely do it again. I took a group of teenagers most of whom were first time campers who thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. The facilities in the barn were basic - raised communal sleeping platform to put your airbeds and sleeping bags on and a couple of trestle tables on the stone flagged floors which were invaluable for evening meals when the rain came down. It was really comfortable and the staff were very helpful and laid back. Because the campsite is so spacious we had no anxieties about the kids being a bit noisy in the evening or running around. The showers and loos were clean and well maintained and the odd peacock wandering through the farmyard was a lovely surprise. There is a games room with a tv and pool table which the kids barely used as there is so much else to do locally that they scarcely had time. I would absolutely recommend this site to other people and whilst I love my tent I'd certainly try a barn again for foul weather camping!

Great place! We turned up without booking and spent a fantastic 4 days there. The site is large and has super facilities, including a games room. There are plenty of toilets and showers and although the water can get a little too hot for the children, these are of good standards for a campsite.

We recently stayed here for 1 night arriving Saturday. We phoned earlier in the week and was told to just turn up. We arrived at 9:15am with a warm welcome. There were 5 of us 3 adults and 2 children which cost £30 which is on the top end of what we norm like to spend for one night. The man from reception was very informative in what facilities they had and directed us to our field which I was very disappointed with out of 10 I would give the field a 7. It was sloping everywhere. We had a look round at the other fields and they were worse. The pot washing area was out in the open and very basic. There were four toilets which were shared by everyone and some portaloos which were poor. They had a games room which having kids though this would be great but as we don't normally carry a bag of 10p's around with us were very limited as to what we could go on.
The area that the campsite was in was lovely with 2 pubs within a 10 minute walking distance they did serve food which was some what nice but book early for a table.
Hope this was useful to all including the campsite.

Had a really good time here. Really nice place,w ell worth the visit, am planning to go back next year. Cant fault any of the facilities, everywhere is tidy, my partner enjoyed the free sauna, just what you need after a long day walking. Was not bothered by any of the peacocks. Yes they were noisy sometimes. But hey this is the countryside!

Totally agree Coyaba. We were pitched in the big field and loadsa room, atmosphere great. Druids and white witch meet, a bonus! Staff really nice, always busy and still happy to help. Would like to keep this one silent! but like Coyaba said, everyone respected the tranquillity!
I have been on many campsites and this is certainly one that we will visit again.

What a perfect site! Bit last minute deciding to go camping, but the owners just told us to to turn up and we'd be ok. Bit tricky to find, have to drive through Birchover and its up on the right. Three fields for tents, we used the larger lower field which was virtually flat so finding a large flat space to pitch was fine! No specified pitched so you can choose exactly where you'd like to be, and can park next to your tent.
What we did like was that it cost £7.50 per person per night, but in that you could pitch two tents, gazebo etc etc at no extra cost, plus the showers were free.
The staff were excellent, in the mornings the lads looking after the site were always directing people to the next available private shower, (communal gents and ladies showers are also available) of which there were three in a block, one next to the sauna and at least another one close to the toilet block which they opened when it was a it busy (although I didn't have to wait more than 5 mins for a shower!).
As someone else pointed out, this cool site has a bit of a festival feel to it, there was a Druid group there the weekend we visited and it made it feel different and funky seeing fire spinners and hearing drum beats early evening!
In Birchover there's a small shop which seemed well stocked, and two pubs, The Druids and The Red Lion. We had a meal in The Druids which was ok, a bit Gastro Pub in style, as in expensive and small portions! Popped in to the Red Lion but the people staring at us like something out of American Werewolf In London (although I think these were fellow campers or walkers, not locals) put us off so we downed our drink and got back to the tranquillity of Barn Farm!
Bakewell an easy 10 min drive and Matlock and Matlock Bath no more than 20 mins away so loads to see and do around.
All in all for our first camping trip, a total winner. Perfect site, lovely views and staff, no hard and fast rules, but the other campers respected each other so it really worked. Will defo return asap too!

Camped here with 3 groups of young people through the Duke of Edinburgh's award.
It was bank holiday and very very busy but still room to squeeze on another few tents without it overcrowding. The fields are massive! make sure you know where your tent is!
There is a large shower block and toilet block. Two, yes two! washing up areas outside!
Top field through the farm buildings is the best one to get on if you can.
Footpath goes right through the site.
No kiddies play area and on a site as big as this it probably needs one.
There is a big site or ready erected tents for school groups etc.
The site also has events on.
Used this campsite for the past 5-6 years at least, never had any problems.
Peacocks on site could wake you up early with their calling so be warned.
The booking system/paying system I think is too small for the site as we'd booked in, they had no record, didnt know how many young people, how many nights etc. Nor were they too bothered!
On a quiet weekend or mid week its peaceful here. Busy weekends and holiday times it has a festival feel to it!
There are tow pubs in the village of Birchover that do food. One is an egon rowney. Good food, small portions, lots of money. The other is pub grub.
The druid stones are well worth a wander to the bottom of the village, behind the druid pub, nine ladies stone circle is also worth the wander as is the hermitage near robin hoods stride.
Small village shop is adequate for a weekends bits n peices but Bakewell is only a 10 min drive with all teh supermarkets etc. Parking in Bakewell a problem if busy!
Will be back

Was very impressed with this site from the start.
Friendly welcome and not too many rules and regs.
Had a festival atmosphere as the sun was shining but very family orientated and not too rowdy.
Only slight down side was the communal showers. If you've been in prison or you are German this may not bother you but some stuffy Brits (like me) may prefer to queue (4 separates with their own sink).
The local shop was well stocked and the Red Lion served quick, descent food (veggies may disagree).
Druids was pricey but we heard was very good for a special occasion.
All in all great campsite, great location. A* and would definitely go again. Although I fear this site is just going to get busier and busier as people discover it!
