First camping trip with my 3 yr old boy, only stayed one night to see how he would get on. The camp site was fantastic, really clean, very hot water all the time. It was quite busy when we went as there seemed to be an event on for teenagers (scouts/D of E), but still plenty of room in the top fields and the noise died down after 10pm.
Went for a great short walk across the nearby moor the next day thanks to some advice from the reception, and finished off the short break with a lovely Sunday dinner in the pub before heading home.
Top site will be returning again

We have just returned from our first weekend away of the season and couldn't have chosen a better site than Barn farm.
There are 3 main tent fields, two are sloping, one is flat although it is easy to find flat areas in the sloping fields.
It is a large site but extremely well maintained, although it can run out of hot water at very busy times (but then don't all sites of this size).
The showers are communal at the moment but this is being addressed with the construction of a new shower block.
Unlike any other site we've visited this one has a sauna, even more amazingly it is free to use!
The location is fantastic, only a few miles from Matlock, Bakewell, Chatsworth and the centre for many Peak District walks.
The staff are brilliant, nothing is too much trouble and the facilities are spotless. At many sites the facilities feel a bit grubby but not here.
There is a sensible noise policy which is enforced by the night security staff.
The village store which is a pleasant 5 minute walk away takes the place of an on site shop, this is a good example of helping the local community, walking down to the shop the locals all said hello.
All in all, a very very good site, excellent value for money, friendly and helpful staff, excellent location and we will definitely be back.

We have just got back from our very first camping trip. We stayed here at the Barn Farm camping site. I must say I never expected camp sites to be like this. The toilets were absolutely spotless, there always seemed to be someone cleaning them and emptying bins.
There are 3 large camping fields in total and you can choose pretty much were you would like to go. There is a relaxed atmosphere here everyone is pretty much left to there own devises and children are allowed to be children, play and run around to their hearts content. The staff are very friendly and helpful!
We don't have small children but our 17 year old son took his friend and they had a brilliant time and particularly enjoyed the games room.
The surroundings are fantastic and plenty of walks and places to visit. 2 pubs just a few hundred yards away both serving food and a small convenience store that sells pretty much everything you need. Bakewell and matlock are only a short distance drive. If like us you are going at Bank Holiday then Bakewell Market is a must.
All in all our very first camping trip was very enjoyable courtesy of Barn Farm, despite the very wet British weather. We will be visiting again soon!

Arrived on Easter Sunday until Tuesday, didn't book for a hook up as the site was fully booked when I rang but when we arrived we were given a lovely pitch with hook up. £15 per night for 4 of us plus dog and £2 per night extra for the hook up, thought this was very reasonable as the site kept exceptionally clean and the staff were wonderful. Very relaxed feel about the site and definitely one of the best I have been to. Toilets were very clean and the rubbish bins regularly emptied. The use of the sauna was bliss. This is one site we will be returning to again and again, in fact booked for another long weekend before we left!

Found this site superb for walking, with no reason to drive out once we were pitched up. This is a well thought-out centre for youth groups using the camping barns, while also offering plenty of space for regular camping, with and without hookups. This site has a working farm feel to it, with peacocks roaming the grounds, traditional old buildings and bounded by arable fields.
The village of Birchover has a small shop within easy walking distance for stocking up with provisions and a choice of two hostelries according to wallet and mood. (One is a posh gastro-pub , the other is a regular lively village pub with grub)
We were treated to the best disabled toilet and shower facilities ever at this campsite.
There are many local walks through the spectacular Peak District, don't miss the Seven Sisters standing stones in a faerie glade within a couple of miles (They were turned to stone for dancing on the sabbath, along with their fiddler!)
If solitude is your thing, do not visit in high season.

This is a great location to explore the countryside. There are lots of walks to do. The people at the campsite are relaxed and friendly. The facilities are good. There is always hot water and toilet paper. The toilets are cleaned regularly although they are still reliant on people to not be animals when they use the toilets! The only negatives are the completely open communal showers - not to everyone's taste and there are only 4 individual showers. The showers themselves could do with being a bit more powerful, but the water was hot at all times.

Visited Barn farm at the beginning of September. We are a family of five in a large tent. On arrival at the site I was told to find a spot we liked and pitch, so we chose a spot on the largest, flattest, field which was very nice and not too far away from the clean toilet and shower blocks, no EHU on this field but I think there were a few on the other fields. We spent three nights here and all of us loved it. There was always hot water and toilet paper and I even had a free sauna. There are very few rules here and kids are allowed to enjoy themselves.
The location of the site is stunning, it is in a little village with just a couple of pubs and a small shop, about 5-10 minutes drive is Bakewell which is a very nice small town with a couple of supermarkets and some good shops. Also close by is Matlock, and Buxton is not too far away either. I loved Barn farm and cant wait to return next year.

We just stayed for the one night - no problem as with other sites with min 2 night stays. We were a small group of women - again no probs with single sex groups.
Excellent site - equally good for families (although no playground) great friendly atmosphere but very noisy cows next to one field - we were prepared for the peacocks but not the noisiest bunch of cows we've ever heard (but hey its the countryside). Would recommend ear plugs!
Even the ice cream man turned up!
Would recommend the hot chocolate at the nearby pub (The Druids Inn) and the walk behind it up to the rocks and caves for a great view.
Will be staying here again

This was our first camping experience as a family. We have a 1 year old son who loved it so much we are returning again this weekend.
Barn farm campsite is fantastic. Bank holiday weekend was brilliant - the site was full and it had a brilliant vibrant festival feel to it.
There is a 10.30 curfew for noise which is reassuring. Other campers were respectful of others around them, a really nice site. Toilets were fully stocked and clean at all times. Rubbish was collected on a regular basis. Staff were friendly and helpful. The tyres on our 3 wheeler pram had gone down, they pumped them back up for us.
Showers are clean - bit of a wait, but don't expect much more on a bank holiday weekend. A nice mix of camper vans, caravans and tents. Lots of places to pitch up. We had the field right at the front, lovely and flat.
Shop down the road was fully stocked with everything. 2 pubs near by - we ate at the Druid- gastro pub, really good food, but very busy over bank holiday. You have to book at weekends. Going to try out the red lion this weekend for a drink.
Fantastic first experience - lets hope this weekend will be as relaxed and enjoyable.

As said in the other reviews this is a fantastic site, it has everything that you would need. Lovely friendly atmosphere and no strict rules which is nice! 24 hours security about the site and the staff can not do enough to help. I went looking for a block to put my disposable BBQ on (situated all over the place but I just picked the busiest time of the day on the bank holiday weekend)and the staff immediately went to get one for me from their store and refused to let me carry it.Delivered it direct to my tent! It was nice to be treated like a lady! The only slight negative that I encountered the whole time there was that there was no hot water for washing your dishes (and that really is all I can think of that wasn't 100%). Definitely one to visit.
