We have just spent a great night camping at Barn Farm. The site was very clean, pitches were very good and the facilities were excellent. I came on my own with my two children (10 & 13) and their two friends and they were happily occupied for the whole time. They never ran out of things to do. The games room is an added bonus. The campsite is very good value for money - £16 for one adult, 4 children and a dog. We will definitely be coming again, but for longer.

Barn Farm is one of those sites you compare other sites to, we have been several times over the last few years and as a family we have all enjoyed it. Carnival weekend is certainly a weekend not to be missed.
It's not perfect EHU aren't plentiful and the family field (which we stay in) is rather slopping and in places has stony ground so take good pegs.
The positives are you are able to pitch where ever you like, the toilets and showers are brilliant and always hot. The staff are friendly and patrol the site ensuring noise doesn't go on and on. The kids have a great play ground and generally there is enough space to play football and other ball games, often involving many other campers which for us what camping is all about.
The Barn is used to show events and when Euro 2012 was on the barn was full of cheering fans.
As mentioned Carnival weekend is special and it is a great day in the village which continues onto the site in the evening.
We would recommend this site

Really nice site, extremely picturesque and brilliantly placed for going to the surrounding attractions and country public footpaths.
The staff were really friendly and happy to help.
Only small negatives; be prepared to pitch on a slope, and also slightly noisy from the road that runs behind at night but nothing major. Also the shop says its open from 9AM-5PM however this is only if you can find someone to open it for you at the time.
Overall experience was really good, will definitely stay there again! Recommend for families with children as they seemed to be well occupied and having a lot of fun! Also anyone just wanting to go somewhere to relax and be out in the open, this is a good value and lovely site to use!

I thought this was a great campsite. We went the first weekend of the school holidays, and the weather forecast was for hot weather so it was pretty busy. I imagine this was pretty much maximum capacity but it didn't detract from our stay. We were a group of 9 families and we all managed to get pitched next to each other. The toilets were always very clean and plenty of loo paper. The site was clean and the kids charged about happily. There was bit of noise in the evening but not excessive. I would recommend so long as you don't mind big and busy!

Just back from barn Farm, lovely place but very busy and like sardines! Nice and friendly. Shower block needed cleaning more as it was very busy all the time. Site noise was very unpleasant!
Bakewell was a lovely place but not sure it the shop staff in most shops really like outside visitors! Chatsworth House was very expensive and so not value for money at all.
Will keep visiting the Peaks but never go to Chatsworth again or to Barn farm campsite.

Been coming here for several years and love it. Toilet block recently been updated to have single cubical showers. Facilities always clean and well stocked with toilet rolls/soap etc. 2 great pubs in the village within 10 min walk, great pub food. Fantastic location for walkers. Main large field is best for flatness but not always open - so check when booking. Only downside is the peacocks which are quite noisy, they will wake you up before 6am, so get yourself some earplugs.

Weekend break at site was generally relaxing but be aware, the DoE troops were everywhere! Lots of toilets, showers and pot wash areas. Even loo roll was a quality one! Very clean and tidy site. Excellent walks straight off site, especially on Stanton Moor with great views. The local pub Red Lion; great food and ales(can recommend chips-massive tin bucket good for 2 to share!).
Peacocks 'squarks' at the site take some getting used to but awesome to look at.
Play area was good and tucked away nicely!
Staff really friendly and work hard to keep site tidy. Would go back again.

A group of friends and I camped here over the May Bank Holiday. We were allowed to book in for just two nights instead of three which is rare. It was very reasonable at £7. 50 per night per person. The site is very large and could accommodate everyone who turned up on this busy weekend. The camping fields slope a bit but we had no problem finding a flat spot. The site is very popular for school groups and DofE's. The facilities were always clean and the site even has a sauna. Their is also a games room. The shop on site was well stocked. Ten minutes away is Bakewell with a large Co-op Food Store. There is also a little village shop/deli in Birchover. There are are two pubs in the village, both very good. We ate in the Red Lion one night and would highly recommend it, the food and service was first rate. There is plenty to do in the area, Haddon Hall, Chatsworth, Bakewell and Matlock. The area is very popular with Mountain Bikers and Walkers.
I will definitely be returning here.

I booked well in advance for this trip, it was organised with friends.
We turned up on the Saturday afternoon of the bank holiday weekend. This was a mistake, especially with a trailer tent and having booked a 9 night stay. Why? because there were no spaces left big enough for our tent on the standard fields, and the overflow field has restrictions on when it can be used. We ended up wedged under some big trees. We almost didn't stay because of it. I had made a big point about organising a group of us when I phoned to reserve a plot. The fact that we were a trailer tent had not been given any consideration (despite me making a fuss about wanting a hook up) when we booked. And there was literally only one tiny bit of the campsite left for us to stay on. We were offered 3 spots, one far too steep to level the trailer, one was blocking in 5 caravans (they wouldn't have been able to drive around the tent as it would have blocked the drive) and finally under the trees wedged in by the front lawn. This last one we took.
We did stay for all 9 nights and enjoyed the split personalities of the campsite.
On the bank holiday weekend there was an on site chip van and a breakfast van. There were around 200 tents on site and a lot of noise till gone 11 from people having mini parties. Tents were pitched everywhere, even on the lawns of the farm house.
If you come here you have to like peacocks. They too are noisy, if its light they are noisy. If people move around, they are noisy. Very beautiful and interesting, but noisy. Google the shrieking sound of a peacock.
The staff were always super helpful and very friendly. They kept the place very clean, the showers always had oodles of hot water. Even with the crazy numbers of people over the bank holiday the site still coped with portaloo blocks etc.
During the rest of the half term, the site had about 10 to 20 tents and caravans in it. This was blissful, the site is in a beautiful spot. Its not near any main roads, and only a 3 minute walk into Birchover and its 2 pubs. Book ahead for food on busy nights.
Its a great spot for exploring the peak district, we visited the caverns near castleton, the town of bakewell and all the attractions around matlock, not to mention walking along dove dale and over the stepping stones.
We will come back again, but we wouldn't arrive on a bank holiday Saturday. You can see our negative comments at the top, and they were so good, the spot is so beautiful and the facilities top notch, we will be back.

Good campsite, especially for families with the games room and play area.
No charge for showers and at less than £20 for a family of four could not be cheaper.
As per other comments, bit of a free for all for pitches with people leaving for the day only to find their car space gone and replaced with 2 tents when they get back.
Overall, a good campsite and would be happy to go back but probably not on a bank holiday weekend!
