My favourite campsite in the Peaks so far. Stayed here 3 times since discovering it in May. Would have stayed more but we they were full 2 other times we tried to book (OK we like camping!)
Some of the highlights:
- Excellent facilities, an abundance of clean and well looked after toilets and showers
- Option of adult only showers (with actual real shower cubicles - no push buttons) if you want extra privacy and space
- Other shower rooms big enough for families (makes it easier when you have a 3yr old!)
- Childrens playground, small but just enough to keep our toddler entertained just before bedtime
- Several fields (not all always in use as we discovered last time). The DofE field at the back has a fair slope, but it was our only field option last time and we pitched at the top, which was fine and flat enough (we took the 10 man tent that time). Lovely views up there!
- Great location in a lovely village with an excellent pub (red lion - great food and friendly owners). Close to Bakewell and Matlock for day trips.
- The owners provide a book filled with walks, hikes, bike trails with plenty of printed copies for you to take - an excellent and very thoughtful touch.
- The site has security present at busy weekends which is reassuring for keeping things in order. You see them patrolling when it's time to quieten down later at night, but they don't stop the fun, so long as you're not disturbing folk (it's not 'don't even whisper' like we've experienced at other sites).
- Prices are very reasonable
- They have alpacas. Who doesn't love an alpaca!
If I was being picky and looking for a negative, it would be the early morning chorus of peacocks and cows singing you awake at the crack of dawn, but hey, this is a farm.
We can't wait to return and hope to spend many more (and longer) trips there next year!

Great site. We spent 3 nights (Fri, Sat, Sun) at Barn Farm. We stayed in field 1. Yes it has a slope but we didn't find it a problem, arrive early to get a good spot. Fri and Sat where busy with field 2 full but the field was empty by 11am on Sunday. Field 1 had about 20 tents on at its busiest. Campsite was very clean as was the toilets and showers. On site shop, games room, sun bed and sauna. The folder at reception with free maps for local walks was a nice touch. We will be visiting again. NOW THE PEACOCKS, I was expecting to find the place overrun with them after reading some reviews, we counted about 6 and yes they can be loud but they never woke us up. If people do not like the sound of nature then don't go camping. Would recommend this campsite to anyone and its in a lovely part of the country.

A very nice site overall. Handy for the village with 2 dog friendly pubs both serving good food. The campsite facilities are very good with an adult only shower block with four large showers plus the bigger family block. We were there the week before the May bank holiday and had the pick of a number of large hard standing pitches. The staff and owners are very friendly. On the bank holiday it got very very busy with a huge field taken over with tents and vans but it was well organised. Food vans arrived serving pizza and burgers and also breakfast. Very handy as it was our last night. The only small issue we had were the peacocks which roam about the site, there are lovely but our younger dog was driven crazy by them and we had to move to s pitch on the lower field so she couldn't see them. Just something to bear in mind if you have dogs who chase animals or birds!

We booked this last minute for the end of the Easter holidays for 2 nights.
Well, what a gem this site is. It is maintained to a high standard by helpful and friendly staff.
Our LO loved the playground and the games room, (although we think some of the games were a little bit expensive).
The location is superb set in beautiful surroundings with lots of walks to do from the site.
They also have the most amazing peacocks roaming round the site!
It is now on our 'campsites we will return to' list.

Stayed here for 3 nights the first time over the bank holiday weekend.
We were pitched in field one which is sloped on parts and did find it hard at time with 1, the tent wouldn't sit right 2, cooking was hard but kinda funny at the same time and 3, thing were forever rolling off tables and oh yeah me falling backwards off me chair, not sure if that was the slope or the beer.
Toilets and shower(I only used the adult only ones) were both of very good standards.
The shower were nice, clean and hot, everyone in our group all commented on this and best of all free.
Pot wash area are of a good size and good for the job you need to do.
The playground is a nice treat for the kids, many hours spent happily playing.
All the staff at the site were very helpful with anything you ask. As it was busy they'd hired in extra toilet block which was leaking a little bit. While others walked past shaking there heads I went and reported it, within 2 minutes there was 4 members of staff sorting the problem out.
There are two pubs within a nice 5 minute walk, both pubs are very welcoming. Didn't eat in any of them so can't comment on food.
My marks is 8/10 would be 10 if not for the slope. I may return one day and hopefully get a flat part.

I stayed here for 2 nights, it was lovely the scenery is astounding ! the site workers were helpful and friendly. There are plenty of toilets and showers, all kept clean, fresh and stocked with loo roll. Handwash, paper towels etc. There's a couple of pot washing areas and it has a laundry room ( very handy indeed ) there's also a small games room and a safely fenced off play area for children. The site is well managed and the fees are very reasonable for what the site has to offer. I will be camping here regularly in future. Thanks to all at barn farm for a lovely stay.

We stayed at barn farm recently 17th august in two tents and altogether four adults three children and a dog. Please be aware that at certain times of the year the pitches are restricted to just those on the very hilly slope and if you are unfortunate to have one of the more challenging pitches the gradient means that sleeping is very difficult when the blow up bed slides away. Cooking is also hard but just remember to bring some props to put under tables and cooking gear to level it and orientate to sleep with feet downhill.
The noise from the quarry can be heard but it is a distant machinery noise with some blasting but does not in any way spoil the experience but just to note it is audible.
The site is very clean no rubbish or dog poo and there are staff who regularly patrol the site which is comforting and good to see that they care about the standards.
The main toilet block although clean with good quality toilet paper, mirrors, hair dryers and showers was still camp quality of the type when I was a child camper. There are however luxury adult only showers which are far superior and of a very good standard. It is a shame that with young children there was no family shower of the same standard so that all family members could benefit.
The walks from the campsite are brilliant and easy enough for young and old. The biggest draw being Stanton moor and the 9 ladies standing stones, gorgeous views and very peaceful.
The children loved the adventure playground and the games room and the place has a lovely friendly feel. They especially got attached to the campsite dog Polly who is such a friendly gorgeous little jack Russell. The children also enjoyed seeing the alpacas, emu and cattle and it's lovely to have farm animals nearby to hear, smell and see as it makes their experience of the countryside that much better.
The staff were very hospitable and friendly and the shop is well stocked with ice cream and any basics you need or have forgotten. It was useful that they put the weather report up in the shop window as we banned all electronic devices in an attempt to go native. That was a challenge in itself!
We are booking again already for next year after our first time this august. We will arrive much earlier to bag ourselves a better flatter pitch and we would recommend you give this campsite a go. Gorgeous views, lovely nearby walks, lots to do and see in the area ( haddon hall, Bakewell, Matlock, 9 ladies, hermits cave, bouldering, etc. )
Thank you.

Just arrived back after a one night stay at barn farm, This was our first ever camping trip so we only went for the one night to see if we liked it. We have a eight year old little girl and she loved it, my husband is disabled and he also enjoyed it but the only criticism he gave was the ground was on a slight slope and he struggled with that,
Can say with pleasure it was a hit. The site was lovely and clean and kept very well.
Toilets were clean and never had to queue,
Staff we're very helpful and friendly.
We also took our dog and the site was great for her too, made to feel like she too was welcome.
We had a meal at the local pub was a little expensive I thought when we ordered but when it arrived you got a very good meal for the money.
Overall it was a great time and we shall return again to a great site.

We stayed at Barn Farm for 3 nights and this was unplanned -booked same day as our arrival. The field we pitched on was on a slight slope but this was not an issue. Pitches are unmarked but everyone was very respectful of others. Facilities were fantastic, very clean. The farm has some grassy areas to play on, small games room and shop as well as a sauna!
Short walk to 2 local pubs. We had a meal at The Druids which was really nice and staff where very friendly.
Would definitely stay here again.

This was the first campsite we stayed at on a long road trip and we arrived quite late in the evening. We were a little stressed because we phoned, phoned, phoned and phoned again to let them know when we arriving, desperately trying the emergency number to say we had been delayed but nobody picked up. I note that this is a communication issue which has been mentioned by another reviewer so TAKE NOTE Barn Farm; there is no point having various contact numbers if you are non-contactable!
We wandered around looking for someone to help us when we did arrive and eventually found someone who showed us to our pitch but gave us no other info so we had to do a little late night snooping. On locating the facilities, we found that these were very good indeed.
The following day was bright and sunny; the children played at the little playpark and then we all went for a glorious walk on the nearby moor, as directed by another resident. The children loved the proximity to the animals and this is a great base for a part of the Peak District we have not visited before. We would come again- but it would have been nice to have been given more information.
