We stayed here as a family in the last week of July midweek for 2 nights. When we arrived we were given a leaflet about the campsite and a map of the facilities. We were told to camp anywhere we liked in the main field. The main field does have a small hill but as there were only around 10 tents already there we managed to get a fairly level spot, towards the end of our stay it was getting busier and a few of the campers arriving had to camp on the slope. There were plenty of toilets and showers which were always clean and the adults showers were great so my advice is if you're travelling with children get them showered first then take it in turns to use the adult block. There were plenty of pot wash facilities with hot water and there is a small games room with a couple of freezers in. There is a shop but we never used it as had no need to, I didn't actually notice it being open but there was a sign on the door stating to ask at reception if you wanted to use it. My two children (6 and 3 yrs) both enjoyed the playground and the peacocks that roam around. We popped into both Bakewell and Matlock during our visit, Bakewell has an abundance of tea rooms and Matlock is lovely, there is a public park there and they had local market stalls on. We bought some stuff for the BBQ from a butchers in Matlock, think it was called Hambridges, which was amazing and quite reasonable. We didn't try either of the 2 pubs that were in the village but they are literally 2 mins walk from the campsite. We were pretty much left to our own devices here and found it quite laid back, we had no problems with noise after curfew except a few squawks from the peacocks every now and then! This was our first camping trip as a family and we would definitely return but probably not during busy periods as I wouldn't like to camp on the slope! Definitely great value for money.

I was very impressed with this site, it is extremely well managed. We only wanted to camp for one night as a trial run with our toddler and newly adopted dog, and I was expecting that when I rang because the weather was so great and they would obviously be busy that they would only take weekend bookings, I was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case. We were forewarned when we booked that they were very busy, but again we knew this would be the case because the weather was so glorious. Considering how many people were there I was extremely impressed at the condition of the facilities, they were obviously cleaned very regularly, and the shop opened late enough that we were able to cool down with an ice lolly after our walk, which was after 5. 30pm. The only negative aspect of our camp was the lack of consideration of other campers - after all who on earth starts cooking on a barbecue at close to 10. 30pm? Also, they had rowdy drunk campers in one of the camping barns, but again I was impressed that they had security who were able to ensure they quietened down. Overall a fantastically run campsite with a fabulous play area for the kids and great walks. Will definitely camp there again.

A good site but very busy. The toilets and showers were cleaned regularly and thoroughly. The playground area for chilren was well maintained. The on site shop was well stocked with the essentials for cooking your own meals on site. One minor negative is that many plots are on a slope. We will be visiting again.

Spent the night at barn farm and have no complaints at all, the toilets were clean and of good quality and having free hot showers is always a great thing and again were very clean. Other good facilities including an on site shop, games room and spaces for washing up etc. The camping field was well looked after but was quite hilly at points but this is no real complaint. The village has two nice pub, the druid inn in particular which is around a 5 minute walk with great food and drink and welcomes walkers. The staff member we met on arrival was very friendly and helpful in booking us in. Overall a very good experience and was one of the best value sites I've visited being £5 pppn.

Great site, beautiful location. Just spent 3 nights there and rate it very highly. Large serviced pitch with more than enough room for our 24' motorhome though do take levelling ramps as area we were in was on a bit of a slope but did see pitches up nearer toilet block which looked a bit more level. Plenty nice clean toilets, proper showers(no push buttons) & hot water. We were there on the Friday night just before Birchover Carnival so site got extremely busy & I do mean busy but no major issues with having to queue for anything. Extra toilets brought in to cope. Shop on site & food van which we didn't use but would imagine be very useful if needed as no shops in village. 2 pubs in village about 5-10 minutes walk. Only went in Druids which was nice, will try Red Lion next time. Did use buses to Matlock & Bakewell and bus stops again 5-10 minutes walk from site so quite useful. We will be returning to Barn Farm sometime in future. I would add that roads to site are ok for motorhomes & caravans if you follow instructions from site and not sat navs.

We spent 2 very wet nights at Barn Farm in May, and despite the weather, what a lovely site.
Set in some of the most beautiful scenery in the Peaks, it really was a lovely area to stay. We found the site to be clean and the facilities available were good and plentiful (including the very spacious family showers). The adults showers looked amazing but we didn’t use them as we had our young son with us.
When the weather was briefly dry we even managed to use the children park, very good and well thought out, our son loved playing on it.
Unfortunately the field we pitched in was largely on a slope, only really making the top and top of the field any good for putting a tent on. The top was full (they must have seen the weather reports) so we camped at the bottom, the ground became extremely sodden because of all the rain, but that was hardly the sites fault. Because the centre of the field was on a steep slope (too steep for camping anyway), it made a great central point for all the children to play and my son played with some of the other children here very happily (until the rain came).
If the site was flatter I would definitely go again, but unfortunately because of the slope and all the other sites on offer in this beautiful part of the world it probably wouldn’t be our first choice again, that is no reflection on an otherwise lovely site.
It’s also worth noting that the website does very specifically advise on the best way to get to the site. Take note, they advise this for a reason. We hadn’t been before and followed our satnav, while remembering bearing in mind there was a warning about using the right road to enter. Typically our satnav took us exactly the way the website had warned us not too! If your unfamiliar to the area, finding the right road is not as straight forward (basically keep going on the main road until you find a less steep more suitable right hand turn), we found it in the end but just bear in mind, that if you think you can probably make it on the smaller road, you can’t!

Just spent 2 nights at Barn Farm and am already planning my next trip there.
I am a solo female camper and felt perfectly safe throughout my visit.
Set in absolutely beautiful surroundings Barn Farm is spotlessly clean with fabulous facilities. There was about 6 large tents with families during my stay and I would say from listening to the children playing they were having a fabulous time.
I managed to find a very flat spot to pitch up but the field did look quite sloping, also there was quite a lot of noise coming from the quarry during the night but to be honest these 2 minor negatives are far outweighed by the many many positives!
Absolutely love this site and I plan to return again as often as possible and would highly recommend it.

Visited this site in August this year. On driving through the surrounding areas the scenery was beautiful and in the village there is two pubs although we didn't use them we heard good reviews of them. We were amazed as we pulled into the site to find a field with donkeys and alpachas in, our children were amazed at the sight of this, and the surprises didn't stop there. On arrival to reception they were also amazed to see peacocks on the roof of the buildings. Staff were were very friendly and helpful. The field was fairly busy but we managed to pitch on very good flat surface, with plenty of space for car as well. This has got to be the first campsite that we have been to that not only has showers purely for adults only but also a sauna which again we didn't use but will return and definitely use. Toilets were well looked after and clean. A bonus was a games room with snooker, air hokey and arcade games which kept children happy while adults washing up, or they could use the play area which again was well looked after and safe. We would recommend this site to anyone especially families.

Second visit to this site and it just gets better, new adult showers are great, all facilities are clean & tidy! Shop is a great addition too! Happy that we didn't have to pitch on a slop though ;-) looking forward to going back hopefully end of September, great location for getting around the area, recommend a walk into bakewell for fish and chips by the river, then a pint of moody cider on the way back to base! Don't have young kids so can't comment on them, but the ones there seemed to be having fun!

We had a fabulous time at this remote and beautiful site.
This is one of the biggest camp site we have ever been to but despite the fact it was extremely busy, the facilities there were top-notch and numerous, and at no time did we have to queue for anything.
The main field where we ended up was huge and we didn't have a problem finding space (mid afternoon so wasn't that busy at the time). I don't know if it was bad timing or because of the remote site, high up on a hill but it was extremely windy so we all had 'fun' putting up and taking down the tents.
During the day, the stroll up to the Nine Ladies was great, and ideal for family with kids (we had some 6 years with us and they were fine with it).
The food at the nearby Druid Inn was amazing. Great value for money and the portions were huge (I kid you not - we didn't have space for dinner later on we were that stuffed). For this alone we would return to the campsite.
For a site this size - two things were missing,
1) family showers (the shower cubicles next to the mens were tiny for a father and son/daughter)
2) family field - some 'loud' musics from the younger groups around but it was all quiet by 10 so not a deal breaker.
Still, recommended.
A+
