Fantastic site if you like the open countryside and walking. The owner Gilbert is a very friendly chap and a little eccentric, he invited us in for a welcoming cup of coffee and played us his favourite song . '' Brown girl in the ring'' by Boney M . The pub which is about 5 minutes walk away, although quite nice, will not prepare any food, not even a sandwich, after bang on the stroke of 9pm. Stanton Moor is well worth a visit and whilst we were there, a group of ''friends of the earth'' were campaigning to save the area from the quarry men and there was a caravan perched high up in one of the trees' their mess, left a lot to be desired though. We will definitely be returning, even if only to see Gilbert.

We stayed at the Barn Farm campsite on Friday 2nd of June 2006 for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. £15 for the night for the two of us. Large open fields to camp on so always a place to find a quiet spot although the large field is on a big slope. The toilets and showers were clean and tidy at all times with good washing up facilities. The views from the site over the dales were amazing! Watch out for the peacocks which roam the site, they are friendly enough though.

Matlock bath and the heights of Abraham are only a short drive away and well worth a visit offering shops, restaurants, bars and activities for all ages

My first visit to Barn Farm was less than inspiring. Despite visiting in late March the main camping field for tents was busy with many family groups and a large number of (I assume) Duke of Edinburgh students. The field was very muddy even though the weather was pretty dry and I had chosen to camp at the top of a fairly steeply sloping field.

The local village is pleasant enough, and the area boasts a large number of stone circles and monoliths. The Red Lion pub in Birchover is very impressive.

The farm itself is very neat and the facilities here are of an extremely high standard. However, communal showers are not to everyone's taste.

The views from the farm are far from 'unrivalled' - a quote from a previous review. The surrounding area is undulating, but does not fill one with a sense of awe and the grandeur of nature. I do strongly feel that first time campers and families would enjoy staying here, but people used to some of the superb sites in the Lake District may be disappointed.

Just spent the bank holiday weekend there with a few non-camping friends and my 18 month old daughter's first camping trip. The site was great - and the peacocks and water buffalo a bonus!

The toilets and showerblock were very clean; well stocked with toilet paper and nobody else in the communal shower block when I visited!
A very laid back site yet busy all the same. We arrived late Friday afternoon on a bank holiday weekend and got a decent enough (if not hilly) pitch although by the following day it had started to fill up a lot more. Plenty of attractions close by, definitely worth a visit back.

Just come back from a one night visit to try new tent. Lovely well kept site with buffalos and cows in the adjoining fields and peacocks roaming about the site to the delight of the children. Toilets were clean and plenty of them likewise the pot washing facilities. We had choice of pitches we chose one at the top of a hill so we could make fools of ourselves putting new tent up without too many watching eyes. We have a big tent but the owner was fine and we had plenty of room to spread out. Only thing that spoilt it was a rowdy element on our field partying till 4.30am with the language to match. Would go again as it is I'm told usually a quiet site. The rowdy ones were made to move the next day but as we were going home anyway it was a little late for us.

Good easy going farm style camp site. We went on a very busy weekend. The own made 2 overflow fields available. However these were rough and had fresh cow pats.

The toilets and showers were clean. showers were the old school style group affair, so would not suit shy types.

Great location for travelling into Bakewell and Matlock. Walking is brilliant around the area. Village shop and local pubs looked good, but we didnt use them.

Experiences pretty similar to everyone else.

Camped in the 'top field' - it's hard to find a level pitch, a footpath runs through it, but the views are unrivalled! There's no play area for kids as such, but there are the water buffalo, sheep and peacocks and loads of footpaths and fields - the kids loved it, and it's very peaceful for the adults. Stanton Moor is well worth the (half-mile) walk from the site.

Only black mark would be lack of soap and towels/dryer in the toilets - every site should have these now!

Lovely quiet site, very informal and lots of room but lots of sloped areas so early arrival advised. Owner happy to fit us in a nice pitch even though we hadn't booked. Toilets/Shower block clean enough until morning time as usual on most campsites. Communal showers. |Considering the number of tents there we never queued for the toilets. No hairdryer. Fizzy drinks machine, tumble dryer, washing machine and payphone on site.

No hot washing up water. The owner has peacocks on site which were rather rowdy from 5.30 am on the 1st morning, but ok the 2nd morning (or maybe it was the ear plugs I invested).

Two local pubs in village, The Druids Inn - not really for campers, really a restaurant. The other one closer to the campsite, nice atmostphere and very good for a pint (CAMRA pub). But the food service was disappointing. We were refused service 10 minutes before food service ended on one night, and refused dessert 30 minutes before on the 2nd night even though we'd had mains. If you don't mind chips with everything and getting there early then you'll be fine.

No shop on site but local Spar open 7 days week less than 5 mins walk. Good location for walking and peace!

We visited this campsite in the summer holidays with two children (2 and 6) and had a great time. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with lots of walks, nearby shop and two pubs. The campsite is fantastic! There's loads of space (even at the peak of summer)in four or five small fields, and your pick of good pitches. Dotted around the fields are rubbish bins and water taps. the facilities are exellent- half a dozen showers with hot water 24 hours a day, clean toilets (with decent paper!!) and wash basins in both men and ladies. There are good washing up facilities, but only cold water for these, also a washing machine and tumble dryer (extra). It's £5 a night for adults (£2.50 under 7's) inclusive of showers, which i felt was definitely worth it for such a well cared for site. We'll definitely be returning! The kids loved the peacocks. Staff friendly and helpful. Couldn't really ask for more from a campsite, if you want 'entertainment' go to Butlins!

Visited site in 2004 and at that time thought it not unreasonable for £10 a night (2 adults and 2 children). In 2005 the pricing structure is £5 a night for an adult, £2.50 for a child under 7 and full adult price for a child over 7. Having been camping many times in the Peak District in 2005 this site now seems well adrift with its charging - it is a pleasant location and the basic facilities are OK - but there is no hot water for washing up and no other facilities to my mind that can justify the pricing structure. Famalies will find better value for money elsewhere in the Peak Park.
