What can I say that has not been said previously. Just had the most fantastic 10 days at this perfect site. Very peaceful.
All facilities excellent and flat spacious pitches. It is worth the walk into Huntington nice village with general shops and good pub.
Plenty of shops/superstores at Monks Cross we walked there a few times found it ideal. Used the Park N Ride close by for a trouble free trip into York.
There is a net work of roads close by that can take you to lots of places further a field.
Peter is one of the friendliest and helpful owners I have ever met, always around if needed. I was even given a couple of books when I had read all mine.
Cannot wait to return to this site. It is now firmly on the top of my favourite site list.

Just returned from a great weekend at Wagtail Park. Everything previously stated seems about right. A very friendly, safe and well set out site, that offers super toilets/showers and an added bonus of a lovely fishing pond.
Pete the owner was helpful, and made sure we were ok. He doesn't live on site, but he or his dad were around when needed, or only a call away!
The site caters well for couples and young families who are after rest and relaxation. It is a beautifully calm site without hustle and bustle, but with enough space for the children not to bother other campers. (Great for us with our 4 year old. )
The site is surrounded by a grassed banking encasing the park and reducing wind and some road noise. The road alongside ( North Lane ) can be quite busy and some loud vehicles bombed down at night, but this didn't bother us too much.
There were several caravans/motorhomes and about the same number of tents. The site wasn't completely full, but even if it was there should be enough room in your pitch so not to feel hemmed in.
Never had to queue for a shower or the loo and they were brand spanking new and clean!
Overall, we would recommend this site, and can't wait to go back.

Great little site. Has 20 piches all with 16A electric hookup.
Shower block (exceptionally clean )
Washing up sinks with plenty of (hot) water.
This site is positioned in a ideal place 20 min walk to monks cross shopping centre or couple of mins by car.
Park and ride about same by car.
Idealy situated for York, Eden Camp.
Peter the owner is such a great guy always there if you need him!
Many thanks peter will be back soon (with new tent)

A lovely quiet campsite. We booked for a 2 night stay over the weekend. We had chosen the location as it is near to Monks Cross where I had to be on the Saturday.
We arrived on Friday evening and were met by Carol who picked out a lovely spot for us in the EHU area, a lovely corner spot which was very quiet. We were pitching when the heavens opened yet not once did we have any standing water to contend with. Peter came to see us and asked if we knew the area asking if we needed information.
We had been given our keys to the shower blocks etc and the card for the gate. The shower blocks are lovely, very clean and spacious. The showers were very nice having a screen separating the wet area and dressing area. Having a mop was a good idea as you could ensure that the floors were kept clean and dry around the shower area.
The site is very well located and there is plenty of information re local businesses etc there were taxi details with rates for the campsite to specific locations, membership of the local WMC for the duration of your stay and information re the local pub including menus for a takeaway as well.
A lovely quiet, peaceful campsite and you couldn't ask for nicer or helpful owners. If you are looking for a relaxing and tranquil break, then this is the place to go.
We will definitely be going again but I'm sure as word spreads on how lovely this site is we will have to book much further in advance.
Very friendly owners, good rates for such a good location, great shower/toilet facilities would definitely recommend and we will most certainly be visiting again.
There is no play area for children however there is plenty of open space for active children who love the outdoors to run and play.

We have just spent a lovely weekend at this site.
The shower/toilet facilities are clean and spacious. The pitches are positioned around the edge of a large field with plenty of space for kids to play in the centre of the field without being intrusive, which lends itself to a relaxing atmosphere.
The walk to Monks Cross or the local village is approx 25mins, but be aware that North Lane has no footpath and can be quite daunting with traffic rushing past. There is a grass verge on the road leading to Monks Cross, but again no actual footpath.
Lovely food at the Blacksmiths in Huntington (large portions).
The owner is exceptionally helpful and friendly. Even being able to provide wipes to clean tar from my husbands flipflop after he stepped in a large pool of it our way back from Monks Cross which had softened in the warm weather. It even turned out he and my husband had a mutual acquaintance.
We enjoyed our weekend at this site so much we have booked to return with 2 other families for the August Bank Holiday. I also heard other people saying see you in a few weeks, so looks as though its going to become a popular site.

Ordered and received my new Coleman Coastline 4 this week so had to take it out for a trial run to see how many arguments I could have with my other half whilst erecting the tent and surprisingly she said I was only in the wrong and doing everything incorrectly twice which must be a world record for us as we usually have at least ten arguments when pitching our tents !
Anyway, we went to Wagtail Park in York, which has only been open 13 weeks. -- Brilliant site, Fishing lake, new amenities block, big pitches and in a brilliant location only 2 mile from Monks Cross shopping centre and the Park and ride into York.
As all the previous reviewers have stated, the owners are really helpful, the site itself (as far as I am concerned) is perfect. I just hope that I can get booked up when we decide to return as people will definitely love this site !

On arrival we were greeted by the owner who showed us to our pitch. He was very pleasant and helpful. We didn't need rock pegs. The site is in a beautiful rural setting.
There is a fishing lake and nature ponds. The toilet block is exceptionally clean and well equipped. There isn't a shop on site but this isn't a problem as there is the Monks Cross retail park one mile away (exactly) which has supermarkets.
The owner recommended a nearby fish and chip shop and a local Indian restaurant. We had a takeaway from the Indian and they delivered to the site free of charge.
The food was very good. The owner came round each morning for a general chat just to see if everything was okay (and it was).
All in all a very nice site and we will definitely be staying again.

We have recently returned from Wagtail Park having spent three nights at this lovely site. This is a new site having only been open for 10 weeks.
On first entering the site we were a little confused (not unusual for us), as we could not see a reception of any kind (there isn’t one) only two sign post, one pointing to the large pond area (fishing) and the second pointing to the field on our right stating Caravans (we have a tent).
The only building in view apart from the Elsan point by the gate was or looked to be locked up. There were several people fishing on our arrival but not a sign of any campers.
Then from nowhere Peter arrived. Peter is the owner of the site. However, our first impressions of Peter were good he is so enthusiastic and easy going. Peter advised us as to where we could pitch (we were the sole campers on the site at that point) he also advised us to use rock pegs as the site was built on shale, then left us to get on with pitching our tent.
We have a full set of rock pegs including spares but I was really glad that I had a heavy lump hammer to get them in the ground a normal rubber mallet was almost useless.
Once we had pitched the tent Peter called back again and gave us a run down of the site amenities and local offerings such as pubs close by, a fish and chip shop, a Carvery and the local social club in Huntingdon which is quite close by.
Campers are invited to visit the club and allowed membership for the duration of their stay. We were given a key for the amenities block and an electronic card which will lift the barrier (the barrier at the gate drops at 7. 30pm).
The amenities block is locked (hence the key for toilets and showers). However there is a Fisherman’s toilet on the side of the building nearest the pond which is always open
(a nice touch). There are three main toilets/showers being disabled, gents and ladies. The locks are double in operation so it takes a couple of goes to work out how to unlock the door then remove the key but once inside you are met by a spotless set of amenities.
The gents block consists of two wet rooms (showers) which are heated under floor, two toilets; two sinks a hand dryer and a gent’s stainless steel urinal. According to my wife the lady’s block had two wet room style showers, three toilets, three hand basins, a hand dryer and hair dryer operated by a 20p coin.
The sink taps and the showers are the usual push for water type which cut off after a short period, but there is plenty of hot water. With respect to the showers there is plenty of room to undress with hooks to hang clothes and a welcome chair to sit on.
The shower itself is separated from the dressing area by a glass partition unfortunately there is no escape from the first press of the water valve which is inevitably cold. On future showers I utilised the end of the mop (which is left in the wet area so you can keep the shower clean) to press the valve until the water heated up.
Around the side of the block are two outdoor sinks for pot washing and several bins labelled for re-cycling of waste plus a bank of bins for general waste. Next to the bin area are the water taps labelled drinking water and waste water, as previously noted the Elsan point is sited by the main gate.
The camping area is very flat and grassed with twenty pitches each with EHU. There are also lights built into the units for night excursions if needed. What we did enjoy were the birds.
We are possibly showing our ignorance here but we think they were Swallows as they zoomed around the site at great speed only inches from the ground, quite amazing. For those who like fishing, the site has three ponds two small one quite large the latter is used for fishing.
As previously stated this is a very new site and has been landscaped to a very high standard and a walk around the ponds of an evening is very pleasant.
We had chosen Wagtail Park for its location. We wanted somewhere close to a park and ride so that we could explore York. Wagtail Park is only minutes from a Park and Ride at Monks Cross which we found ideal.
There isn’t a shop on the site, however, Huntingdon is only a few minutes away plus there is a huge shopping retail park at Monks Cross with shops such as Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Asda (24 hour), Boots, Next, even a Blacks camping outlet. Incidentally, the cost of the Park and Ride was £2. 30 return.
The afternoon and evening before we had to leave the heavens opened but there was no standing water, I assume that is because of the shale allowing quick drainage.
Peter is always somewhere around the site during the day and ready to help if required. On our final day I had a problem removing one of the rock pegs, Peter was at hand to help with a crowbar and claw hammer which he kindly left with us whilst we dropped the tent.
In conclusion, a beautiful site one we are keen to return to. It may not be perfect for families with children as there are no specific play areas. However, children are welcome. Dogs are also welcome, there being designated walk areas but dogs must be kept on leads around the site at all times.

Just returned from a lovely weekend at Wagtail park. Pitches are flat and spacious, facilities spotless. A very picturesque setting, easy access to York. A 20 min walk to Monks Cross for bus to York although the road is very busy. Will definitely be returning. There is no reception, however, the owner was there in minutes of our arrival, he was friendly and helpful. The only problem I can forsee is it will be become very popular and therefore hard to book at short notice and when busy there may not be enough showers and toilets as there is only two showers in each of the male and female blocks.

Just back from 4 days at Wagtail Park, what a great little site, reviews are all good and we fully agree.
A family run business, Peter and his Father cannot do enough for you, the site is ideal if you are visiting York, park & ride system at Monks Cross is 1 mile down the road, the local village has a great Pub, full menus are available on site, also local takaways will delivery to the site.
The site is all new, shower blocks are great and always clean, the pitchers are well spaced and at no time did we feel over crowded.
On site fishing was good, the lake although new shows great potential, I fished a full day and caught most of the day, Peter & his father are always close offering advise and which pegs are fishing good.
A great 4 days, will be going back later in the year for a little more fishing, and shopping.
