We have had a lovely week clean facilities and great owners always there to help,
We didn't have brilliant weather but didn't deter our stay, would come again, plenty of nice walks round the lake with the dog,
All in all a nice site and not regimented in how you can site your van.
Regarding child friendly you would have to be very aware of the lake

Just spent 3 nights at Wagtail and was very pleasantly surprised.
The shower block was spotless and very warm even though it was freezing outside.
Good location for York with plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby. The owners Joyce and Brian could not have been any more helpful and such a lovely couple.
We are returning in 5 weeks time and cannot wait! Thank you for a lovely stay Joyce, Brian and Peter

We visited the site on the 6th 7th of January. The site was not busy and so the owners made a special trip to settle us in. It was -4deg C at night yet the shower, toilet' washing up block was warm and comfortable to use, also lovely and clean. There was plenty of useful literature on site to help orientate one into the area. The site was well located for exploring the area but I would suspect it would be busy in the summer. We had a great stay in this quiet well run site.
(We did not have any children with us. )

Just spent a night at this lovely well kept site. A very peaceful site with lovely surroundings
And the toilet/shower facilities are the best I have come across very nice and spotlessly clean.
Booked last minute and the owner was more than accommodating
The fishing was very active and enjoyable.
The site itself is one me and my partner will definitely be returning to and recommending to friends and family

We have just returned from our 6 night stay at Wagtail Park. The owner Peter was very friendly and helpful and was on site when we arrived. Spacious site, large pitches and electric points. The toilet block was nice and clean and warm(very cold weather) with plenty of hot water.
The site is very close to a large retail park and the Park and Ride which takes you into York. Access to other places is very good as the site is near the ring road. We ate twice at the nearby Toby carvery-excellent food and friendly staff.
Other reviews have commented on the road noise but it didn't bother us at all. A very pleasant and relaxed stay!

What a great site, very clean as were the toilet and shower facilities. Very handy for the park and ride into York and all the large shops at Monks Cross ( this is a massive out of town shopping park). The owners were very polite and extremely helpful, take away restaurants also deliver to the site. We had one of the best Indian meals that I've had in a very long time, the name of the rake away is on the wall of the shower block with a lot more information. Will certainly visit again and it's open all year.

Great little site owners were helpful and friendly, toilets and showers ok but gents urinal not very pleasant and the elsan point was disgusting needs a revamp asap. No bus service near site so you have to drive to Monks Cross for P & R no great problem but with motorhome not very convenient. Can only rate it 8/10 mainly for elsan point condition.

Nice site, manager met us on arrival.
Very friendly, lots of advice given.
Not very busy, nice fishing lake and good views.
Well kept grass and shower/toilet block.
Lots of water points and rubbish bins.
Showers nice and hot!
My only gripe, the grass that was cut on our side, (left) was not picked up like the right. So you walked it indoors.
Only a small thing.
I would stay again.

We stayed at Wagtail Park for one night in mid-July. We'd booked well in advance, as we'd found several nearby sites already full. They were very helpful on the phone and were able to accommodate us when we called back a couple months later to add on one of their 'pods. '
The owner was there to meet us when we arrived. We found the pod to be much nicer than we'd expected. It looked brand new, with hardwood floors, a glass door with shade, operable window with shade, lighting, and heater/fan. If you were car camping and didn't want to pitch a tent, the pod would be fantastic. It would comfortably sleep two adults. Three kids were happily ensconced in ours, with one adult joining them later in the night.
The bathroom facilities were very clean, though trying to unlock the door in a bathroom emergency could prove disastrous. However, I believe there might be an unlocked door to a toilet on one end.
Grounds were lovely and well kept. Great little pond and some grassy areas. Proximity to York is great for exploration. You can hire a taxi to pick you up from the park, which is reasonably priced; it's great this is an option if you'll be staying in the city to grab dinner, as you'll likely miss the last bus. Alternatively, you can use the park and ride nearby, which is very affordable, pretty good hours, but doesn't run late.
Just after we'd backed into our spot, we noticed we had a flat on the motorhome. Sadly, the rental company was ZERO help--we were on our own! Luckily, the owner was still on site. He was incredibly helpful and went out of his way, loaning a jack and helping us to remove the tire. We were fortunate a nearby repair shop was able to take care of it for us. Wouldn't have made it there in time without the park owner's help!
Would not hesitate to stay here again. Highly recommend it to motorhomes, caravans, tents, and those car camping--bring a pillow and a bag, and you can take advantage of the lovely pods!
