We spent 4 nights here at the end of July/start of August and we hope to come back again as the location is excellent and the site peaceful and well laid out. There is only 1 toilet/shower block and where we were asked to pitch was quite far away. That didn't bother us as 2 adults but I'm not sure that would suit someone with children. I had to visit the block in the night and the ladies wasn't lit which was a bit daunting. The area where we pitched our tent was lovely & flat and the tents weren't too close together. It did look very packed in the caravan/motorhome area though but I'm not sure if that is usual as I have no experience. There is a little room with a fridge which everyone can use (although we didn't) and some leaflets about the area. Sadly these were all well out of date and it lacked information for people not familiar with the area.

We walked in to Craster (took about 20 minutes) which was pleasant and although there's not a lot to do in Craster it's a lovely little village with a nice pub, cafe and smokehouse. The pub wasn't doing food that night (Saturday) so we walked to the Cottage Inn. Glad we did as the food was excellent! We had read previous bad reviews about it but the new owners, who had taken over only 8 weeks earlier, have turned it around. I can't recommend the food and service enough.

Booked for just one night - site busy on entering mid afternoon - queue of caravans. Site manager quickly found us a pitch - we followed him on his bike.

Lucky to get a pitch on the edge of the furthest field - the area was crowded and many children playing in the centre area. Delightful views of the countryside - sheltered by hedges.

Toilets and showers in a central area - basic but very very clean. Showers -10p but adequate. Good area for rubbish disposal shut away from dogs and foxes.

Great walks to the coast from just down the road. £19 a pitch with EHU.

What a lovely campsite. As other reviewers have said, the toilets and showers are basic but were always spotlessly clean. We were given plenty of room to pitch our tent and it was great to wake up to the sound of birds and sheep with no traffic noise. Everyone was very friendly and it had a lovely atmosphere on the site

We visited the Cottage Inn for a drink and wished that we hadn't eaten already as the food that we saw being served looked and smelled very good. We will definitely eat there if we come back to this part of the country again.

If there is one improvement I would make, it would be to have the tent pitches closer to the toilet block. The two nearest fields are for caravans who generally have their own facilities on board. It feels a bit of a hike to the loos in the middle of the night!

I would recommend this site to a friend.

A lovely campsite with very even ground, plenty of space between tents and very friendly owners. The toilet facilities are about 200yds from the camping area and are very clean and tidy.

The campsite is within walking distance of Craster Bay and Dunstanburgh castle. Electric hook ups available.

My parents also pitched their caravan here at the same time and they also found it very good. The area is absolutely lovely and not far from the sea. 2 x pubs near by - The Rose and Crown and the Jolly fisherman. The jolly fisherman is my favourite and has the best beer garden ever overlooking the sea.

Good value for money

We stayed at Proctors Stead Caravan and Camping Park at the start of June 2011. The owners were very friendly and came to greet us straight away. The toilets and shower blocks were cleaned regularly (showers 20p).

There are nice walks between Dunstanburgh castle and craster, plenty of small pubs in Craster which serve food all day.

The campsite almost seemed segregated into sections with a separate field (separated by small picket fence) for statics, tourers, tents with adults and tents with adults and children. We found this to be great, not having children ourselves, we were able to lie in and not be woken by children in the morning. In the same sense, the children would not be woken on an evening when the adults are awake.

Overall very good site, would stay again for a weekend. Not enough to do in the surrounding area to stay for a week. We managed a walk around Alnwick, Craster, Bamburgh Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle and still had plenty time for walks. Stayed for 2 nights.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of May. The weather was very mixed and I only mention this because the field we camped in must have been very sheltered. We could hear the wind howling in the trees but our tent seemed barley touched!

The toilets and showers are very clean and we never had to wait for either. Very good recycling facilities, all rubbish kept under one roof and very neat.

The site is very flat and tidy. Mr Davison (the owner) was friendly enough and shows you to your pitch. The site Facilities would greatly improve with a little shop,Mr Davison sells eggs, milk and orange juice but unfortunately we found this just wasn’t enough as you have to drive to the nearest shop (in Embleton 2/3 miles) for any fresh or forgotten supplies.

The site was very quiet which was ok we had no kids with us. But the kids that where there seemed to enjoy themselfs.

There is a pub/restaurant in Dunstan about 5mins walk, we did not try this due to the bad reviews it got on these pages but we had the fortune of talking to the new owner’s dad while out walking and if they are as friendly as he then we will definitely give it a try next time we visit.

Craster is a small but friendly place. We did try out the pub here and the food was reasonable but nothing to write home about and a little pricey but the staff where very friendly.

The surrounding area is just lovely and worth a visit to Dunstanburgh Castle.

We will definitely return.

Brilliant but basic site. We have been a few times now and we have always been happy to camp here.

The toilets and showers are basic but they are very clean at all times, the water is hot and they are spacious.

The reception sells orange, milk, eggs etc and you can order a morning paper if you are there early enough on a afternoon to do this.

The welcome on the site is excellent.

Surrounding area is stunning with plenty of coastal walks and good cycling. If you haven't been to this area you must take a visit!

The pub in Craster - the Jolly Fisherman does excellent bar snacks and sells a good range of drinks including real ale. Well behaved dogs are welcome in here and you can sit by the open fire in the winter or sit and watch out the window at the wildlife along the coastline.

We look forward to our next visit.

We have just returned from our second trip to Proctors Stead and once again we had an absolutely wonderful time. The site is incredibly quiet, the owner fantastically friendly (he takes you around the site on his bicycle to enable you to choose your pitch), facilities are basic but incredibly clean, spacious and with plenty of hot water (10p for a shower but you get plenty of time).

The pitches are incredibly generous and there are no pitch markers. There is no site shop but you can buy milk, eggs, fresh orange juice and lemonade from the reception area.

The local pub is a 5 minute walk away albeit it was closed for refurbishment at the time of our recent visit - under new ownership. Not a problem as Craster is only a 15 min walk away - there is a pub (again under new ownership) that does the most wonderful crab soup and they have also just opened up for food in the evenings which is a real bonus.

There is also a seafood restaurant (very good food at reasonable prices) - attached to Robsons which produce the best kippers I have ever tasted.

The area is absolutely stunning and unspoilt - such huge skies and magnificent beaches - all dog friendly!

One of my favourite spots on earth and we will definitely be back and we will be staying at Proctors Stead!

This is the fourth time we have visited this amazing site!

The facilities are always spotlessly clean and I have never had to queue for showers etc no matter what time of year we have visited.

The owners are very friendly and they also have small supplies of fresh juice/milk and eggs on sale which was very handy as the first time we visited we didn't take a cool bag.

It has lovely views across the countryside and coast and provides an excellent spot for lovely walks, the castle is my favourite on the Northumberland Coast! I also enjoyed waking up to the sounds of the animals in the field behind.

I would highly recommend a visit to the Cottage Inn where staff are very friendly and the food is amazing! The Jolly Fisherman in Craster also does good snacks after a lovely long walk!

Families seemed to enjoy the space although there was no play area for children, there was a sign saying no ball games but the field was huge and open so people didn't seem to mind children playing with balls etc in the middle of it.

We will be visiting this site again as it is the best we have came across in our years of camping.

Very clean and tidy site. Got charged more than the people next to us for the same setup which was annoying although the price is reasonable. The toilet block is basic but very clean. There's nothing much for kids as there's no playground and signs saying no ball games or frisbees. Good for couples though.
