Arrived in appalling weather, wind, rain etc. Owner was very friendly and helpful, and directed us to a choice of sheltered dry pitches. Our hard standing was slightly raised, which was good, particularly when it continued to rain. Facilities were very clean and well signed. Waste emptying was very well organised and private, which was much appreciated. The laundry was great. I wish we had the tumble dryer at home! Site was quiet and well kept, although it could probably get very busy in the summer. Lovely walks to Dunstanburgh castle and Craster, and very handy for touring the area. The owner was often about, making the site feel very secure.
The one fly in the ointment was the nearby Cottage Inn, which we visited once. While the beer was good and it had a good drinking atmosphere, the food was awful and the tables were sticky and not very clean. The service was not particularly good or obliging: we were brusquely refused a table in the restaurant as we had not booked, even though it was half empty and remained so all evening.

Arrived saturday eve. First time to this site. No fuss got lead to a pitch hooked up the Bongo the night was ours. Very tidy site clean and open. Good location for walking nice pub in Crastor beer garden with the best view over the harbour. Sue loved the kippers. Sunday went Amble. Bit of a market on had sunday lunch in the harbour tea rooms The best sunday lunch EVER £5. 99
Anyway three nights at Proctors then hit the road north. After this great introduction to camping in the North east.

Stayed one night instead of the two we'd expected as the weather changed and we'd done the walk down to the village and then up to and around the castle.
A good site, well looked after (and bigger than I first thought, all tucked around behind the owner's bungalow) with central facilities all in good enough condition, but chilly and not hugely welcoming. Too many signs saying 'No.' perhaps although the owner was actually helpful and friendly.
A really lovely walk along the cliffs and through the sand dunes by the castle though. The clean sandy beach with the tide coming in was more temptation than Mr Fiftysomething could stand, so he enjoyed an impromptu swim!

A very nice, cosy campsite. It was popular even at the end of September in wet and windy weather. Ideally situated near the village of Craster and close to Dunstanburgh Castle and several coastal walks. There’s also a pub just 2 minutes walk away, The Cottage Inn, which serves nice food. A little pricey, but tastey. They also have four or more real ales. Leave your dog back at the site though as the pub doesn’t allow them inside.
Facilities at the campsite are very good. Several large, spacious toilet cubicles and shower cubicles. Plenty of water points too. We were given a hardstanding pitch for the camper van which, given the inclement weather, was an added bonus as it would be easy to churn up wet grass.

Great site, Toilets clean, showers good, site comfortable even when crowded, but why charge 10p for showers - it is hard enough to get change.
Pub closeby ok, but food not so good on Sundays when temp chef in charge. Beer expensive.
Try the nearby smokery restaurant at craster. Great shop and pubs at embleton (2-3 miles), also wonderful walks to dunstanburgh castle. Have a picnic in the dunes.
Visit Alnwick Castle Gardens - well worth the £9.99 entrance fee (only 1p for kids). You'll be there for hours and get good VFM at the cafe.
Fantastic Memories.

We visited this site in august 2010. The site is pretty basic, you book in at the owners bungalow on arrival, and we were shown to our pitch by the owner on his pushbike. The pitch was at the back of a big hedge which gave us shelter and a bit of privacy. The site is clean and tidy and well looked after, even if things are a bit on the basic side.
Walk out of the site and turn right walk for about 500yds and you come across a pub called the Cottage Inn, we ate here one night the menu is limited the food is good but not great ,but a lovely pub anyway. Craster is only a mile away but there is only a footpath for about half of it. Craster itself is only small, with a smokehouse and opposite a pub, without a doubt the best view up the coast with duntanburgh castle in the background stunning.
This site ticks all the boxes clean quiet we will be back, well worth a visit. Just how a campsite should be. Forgot to say there's nothing for kids apart from space to play footie, frisbie etc.

Spent two nights here - first we went to Craster - lovely kippers - there is nothing there shop wise so do your food shopping beforehand! The site is really well located for walking to Dunstanburgh castle which we did in glorious sunshine and a rainstorm coming back! Saw my first yellowhammer here so I was well chuffed!
I liked the facilities, they reminded me of the old fashioned outside toilets - all really individual big rooms - my daughter said they were like prison cells! Showers lovely and hot and loads of room for your stuff. I couldn't believe how big the site is - we were put on the end of a row which felt a bit weird and I didn't think there was sufficient room for the kids so I wouldn't come here for a week. The owners sell milk (all sorts) and juice and eggs which were only 85p for half a dozen - I was assuming they were free range but I guess they might not have been.
We were going to go to the cottage inn because it looked nice with a limited but varied menu - usual British fare plus a curry, chilli etc. We didn't get there and now I've looked at the reviews I am quite glad because each dish was almost £10 so that's quite a bit for a family of four with drinks and pudding say to be disappointed at! So all in all there is nothing wrong with this site but it was too full for us!

We have just returned from this site after an initial three night stay.
On arrival we were shown to an area amongst the caravans but after another look we were shown a spot in with the tents in the third field, it was further to walk to the toilet block but we didn't mind as it was such a nice quiet area.
After the three nights we decided to stay another six nights as the site and surrounding area was so pleasant.
The facilities where kept to a very high standard even though the site was full, the grass was always kept cut and cuttings removed so you where not walking it into your tent etc.
The owners where always on hand to help out and made our stay a real pleasure.
The 'Cottage Inn' pub is just a short walk down the road which serves good quality pub food.
Crester is only a mile away and is well worth a visit.

Stayed here for 4 nights in early August 2010 on one of our first camping trips.
The site is run (with almost military precision) by Mr & Mrs Davidson.
Mr D comes across as a little gruff at first but he is a lovely character and is regularly seen cycling around the site at all times of the day and evening which does give you the assurance that things are being looked after.
He seems to personally escort everyone to their pitch himself which means that checking in at busy times can be a little time consuming but it also means people pitch in the most appropriate places and there is little chance of coming back to your tent at the end of the day and finding someone has pitched right on top of you which has happened at one other site we've used.
We were shown our pitch and asked to leave sufficient space between the tent next to us even explaining that the people 'seem to sit out at this side of the tent so leave a little extra room and if you want privacy pitch your tent so your door opens onto the opposite side'.
Facilities are slightly dated but spotlessly clean. They seemed to get cleaned 3 times a day whilst we were there.
The site advertises as 'family friendly' but there are no facilities (playground etc) for kids and various signs forbidding ball games and frisbee games but don't let that put you off. Our 8 years old daughter had a great time. If you want a place where your kids can run riot this isn't it but if your kids can occupy and enjoy themselves with consideration for others then this is a great spot.
Local area is great. Nice walks into Craster and the nearby castle. Local pub is OK for beer and has a large shaded beer garden with playground but food distinctly average. Some of the best beaches in Europe just a short drive away.
Alnwick Castle & Gardens, Bamburgh Castle and many other 'wet day' activities just a short drive away.
This place is definitely worth a try - we'll certainly be going back.

Have just returned from a week camping at this site.
For once the tent field seemed a better bet than the caravan fields. We had ample room for our 8 man tent and people carrier. The caravan field next door looked very crowded by comparison. The site was very busy and people came and went all week. The grass was lovely and green and very well kept. The owner appeared to rotate the use of pitches to give the grass a bit of time to recover in between uses. It was a nice quiet site, ideal for families or couples. There were lots of dogs on site, all very well behaved.
Although there were notices forbidding ball and frisbee games the owner did not seem to mind young children playing with balls, and plenty of people had other types of games such as badminton and quoits. I assume they just wanted to stop large games of football etc. There is no children's play area but plenty of children had their bikes and seemed to enjoy themselves.
The site seemed to go naturally quiet about 10 to 10.30 and the vast majority of people were very considerate and kept their noise down at night.
Although many people have commented about the spotlessness of the facilities I would disagree. They were cleaner than many campsites I have visited, but not spotless. The loo rolls kept running out, as did the soap in the washroom. I would recommend ladies to take their own soap and loo roll supplies. The arrangement of the shower cubicles was good and there was plenty of space to put your clothes whilst in the shower. You need 10p to operate the shower but it gave you plenty of time.
There is a freezer where you can refreeze ice packs for a 10p donation to charity per ice pack.
The owner supplies Calor Gas, but ours lasted the whole week so did not need to ask.
The nearest pub is the Cottage Inn. We went for a meal on the first night on the recommendation of another camper, but we were very disappointed. The service was non existent and the meal was OK, but the 'handcut chips' looked just like frozen ones. There is a car park at the back and a nice adventure playground. Other campers said it was OK for drinks.
Barter Books in Alnwick is well worth a look. You can browse their large selection of secondhand books and get a light lunch in the buffet. We made three trips there in the course of the week and spent far more than we meant to.
Alnwick Gardens was worth a visit and children get in for 1p. The Poison Garden was particularly interesting and as it was a warm day children were making the most of the water features.
There are both Sainsbury and Morrisons supermarkets in Alnwick.
We really enjoyed our visit to this site and would recommend it for those who like a quiet site.
