Manageable but narrow approach roads to site.
Site was full but far too few toilets to cope - although clean - remainder of site was well tended and a good sized pitch. A good site to visit if you want to test your awning against the wind!
Castles just about round every corner - great!Plus no end of attractions to spend days out - Farnes are a must.

Just returned home after a week at this great campsite. The site is large and flat catering for tents, motorhomes, caravans, statics as well as holiday cottages. The facilities were very well kept all day long even though the site was packed not once were the toilets/showers dirty. The owner works hard all day long in keeping the place neat and tidy and making sure that all of his customers are happy. The site is about a mile from Craster which has a pub(not very good)fish shop and restaurant. The Cottage Inn which is a 5 min walk from the site is a great pub, fine real ales and good food! The site is central for various historic sites which are within short driving distances or there is a bus stop outside the Cottage Inn which goes Berwick-Newcastle.If you want a relaxing stay in Northumberland you will find it hard to better this site!

Fabulous camping site, plenty of space and pitches not too close (more room than the caravan/campervan area if I'm honest). Good solid earthy ground for pitching, we were over by the trees/bushes which provided good protection from the wind.
Very quiet in the evenings, no need for earplugs for me. Owner provides milk, eggs, juice etc and there's a freezer for ice packs. He's also round every day mowing the grass and checking everyones OK, very attentive and the site looks very well kept. Toilets and showers good and clean, not many of them, but only had to queue once.
Craster within easy reach with a nice fish restaurant at the smokery. Otherwise the Cottage Inn is just around the corner and does simple pub grub and a nice selection of beers, plenty of tables too, so no issue getting in.
Otherwise loads to see and do; fantastic beaches, castles, boat trips to the Farne Islands, Lindisfarne not too far away, as is Alnwick, Cragside etc.
Pretty much a perfect site for me!

We enjoyed our stay at this site. It was larger than we expected and although the site was full, being the middle of summer, it was very quiet both during the day and at night time. The owner took all new arrivals to their allocated pitch, which ensured people pitched within their correct space, and he was often around checking the site which was reassuring. We were in the main field next to the track. Caravans/awnings were pitched reasonably close side by side, but with loads of room at the back/front for parking and sitting out. We had no problem with children playing ball games at all, or dogs being off leads, including our own children and dog! It was handy having milk, eggs, fruit juice and cream available at the owner's bungalow.
Remember to take a supply of 10p coins for the showers. I got up early one morning for a shower, only to find out they were 10p, which I unfortunately didn't have at the time. After having paid £27 a night for a family of five, I assumed showers would be included in the price. However, once we had got the 10ps, we found that one coin supplied a very generous amount of hot water. The showers were also spacious, with a separate area for dressing - great for keeping clothes dry and also for showering young children.
I would advise taking any receipts for deposits paid and a printed copy of the quoted nightly charge with you, especially if this was given by email, as there was some confusion over this on our arrival, which is the last thing you want after a long journey. Although there was a record of our deposit, the owner didn't seem to know the price we had been quoted. We hadn't got a copy of the quote either as our computer had recently broken and we had lost all our emails!
The village store in Crastor was temporarily closed, but Embleton had a well stocked village shop. There were good children's play areas in both villages. The nearest sandy beach was at Dunstan Steads where there are parking places along the lane. Get there early on a sunny day though. It was only a short walk from here over a small part of the golf course to reach the beach, which has lovely views of Dunstanburgh Castle. Further afield, Alnmouth Bay has parking right next to the beach (chargeable),with a pathway leading back to the village, which has small shops and public toilets!
We loved visiting Cragside (National Trust), which was £30 for a family of five. Alnwick Castle was good, but very expensive - about £70 for entry to the castle and gardens for a family of five. Tesco Days Out tokens are valid for the castle but not the gardens. We just visited the castle. There were guided tours around the grounds plus good quality children's entertainment provided by look-a-like characters from the Harry potter films, scenes of which were filmed on location at the castle. To get the most benefit, it might be useful to look at the castle one day and the gardens on a different day. It's £2 to park in the Alnwick Garden car park for the day. For less able walkers just wishing to visit the castle and not the garden, it's closer to park in Alnwick town centre. There were long queues to buy entrance tickets, so get there early in high season. Alnwick itself is a lovely town and has some larger shops, including an Iceland store which we found useful.
Seahouses (good for fish and chips) and Banburgh Castle were also well worth a visit, being a half hour drive from the site. All in all, a very beautiful part of the country to visit.

We recently visited this site as a group of families and received a very warm welcome from the owners on arrival. (By the way, be prepared to pay site fees in cash as you arrive.)
The site is lovely and flat for pitching tents, and there are hedges of various heights around the edge of the fields to shield the wind. The facilities are spotless - there are 4 separate ladies toilets and 4 showers (I think it's the same for the gents) as well as an area with wash hand basins (and sockets for hairdriers!). The washing up area is indoors and there's plenty of hot water.
There are signs asking children not to play ball games, but members of our group did play ball, and fortunately were not 'told off.' There was not an allocated area for children to play, which is a shame, really!
The campsite is well-located within easy reach of Dunstanburgh Castle and Embleton Beach (easy walking distance) and further afield, Seahouses - famous for boat trips out to the Farne Islands (bird and seal watching!) We walked to Embleton beach most days - it's about a mile away, and takes about 30 mins to walk to when you have little people with you. Be warned that there's no shelter down there - we all got drenched when a thunderstorm came over.
We'll visit the site again, to take in all the sights we missed this time round!

The tent area is in a dedicated enclosure at the rear of the campsite, which guarantees some tranquillity away from the campervans.
There is a drinking water tap at the corner of the enclosure so that the little distance to the amenities block is not a problem.
The ground was the right texture to pitch the tent. Since the campsite is not right on the seashore, it was slightly windy but not too much, and the sea can still be heard from there.
All facilities were clean.
Paid £16pn for 2 adults, a car and a 4-people tent.
Was a bit surprised with having to pay 10p for the shower, but the duration was long enough so nothing to complain about there.
The pitch has to be cleared by 12 noon.
Craster is not far away, a nice walk indeed, with a pub and restaurant. It is also the access to the coastal walk towards Dunstanburgh Castle - leave the car on campsite and walk to the castle via Craster to avoid the Pay and Display car park at the entrance of the village.
It's a good campsite on the way up/down the coast, but it's a long drive to get to Cragside / Wallington, both well worth the visit in their own style.

We have just spent 2 nights at this campsite. Very quiet with friendly staff. 10 minute walk to Craster where there is one of the best walks on the NE coast to Dunstanburgh Castle. Craster is a traditional fishing village with a pub and restaurant. There is also a shop selling fresh crab, kippers, lobster etc.
Showers and toilets are dated but very clean. They are a little open to the elements but will be fine in summer.
The site is on a working farm and the kids loved seeing the cows in the barn from a viewing area. No playground but plenty of open space.
We would certainly visit again.

The site is in an excellent location for visits to Northumberland's best attractions.
The site was one of the cleanest and quietest sites we have been to, and we did not mind paying 10p to use the shower as this was offset by the cheaper cost of ice pack freezing compared to other sites, which the owner donates to charity.
We found the owner both pleasant and approachable. It was nice to see him regularly checking the site on his bike, and we observed other people maintaining the site both cleaning and mowing the grass. The owner also came over to say goodbye on our last day and checked we had a good stay.
The ground was soft enough to pitch a tent without needing to use the mallet.
The local pub was within walking distance and served good food and we went on the pub quiz night which was very entertaining, even though one of our party insisted Honduras was the capital of Cuba and lost us 10 points!
We will definitely stay at this site again if we visit Northumberland.

If you want a quiet site this is the one. We stayed in the furthest away field which was just for tents, only one child in a dozen tents in the hols ! No playground, no ball games! The jolly fisherman in Craster a real disappointment, lovely position but no food and a bit dated, the cottage inn was good though the beer garden and fish and chips were both lovely

It's the 1st visit to this site and if you want quiet then it's highly recommended. It's spotless and well maintained. We must have went on the wettest and windiest weekend of the year so it was only open to those who had booked and it was still full. We walked to craster and along the cliff tops to dunstanburgh castle when rain stopped. Windy and breathtaking. We walked back and stopped in the cottage inn pub 5 mins walk away from site I recommend it prices very reasonable. Will use this site again as we found the owner friendly and he gave us directions or should I say short cuts to some of the sites. As I said at the beginning I highly recommend this site
