A convenient location for the Northumbria coast. A large site but hedges separate sections so that it doesn't appear too large. Toilet facilities were clean and adequate for the number staying.
Local transport from Dunster village is just a few minutes walk away as is a good pub serving food. Craster is a little further, about a mile.
Only downside may be that there are no shops within walking distance, although the site does offer milk, fruit juice and yogurts.

We have just returned from a five day visit to Proctor 's Stead Campsite, and I agree with many who say it is a lovely site with it's handy location to Craster, but where I don't agree is the the cleanliness of the the toilets, washrooms and showers.
Maybe my idea of cleanliness differs from others but as far as I could see the cleaning of the toilets and washbasins was basic, just to wipe the sinks and the toilet seats over isn't enough!
I had been into one toilet that remained soiled for four days, worktops in the washroom weren't wiped as hair etc was left there, there are no waste bins in the showers and washrooms so people still leave empty bottles and horrible stuff around, even the hand dryer was covered in dirty marks, off children I presume and the soap dispenser top full of dust/dirt. The surrounding areas in the washrooms etc are full of cobwebs and dust, totally puts me off and so we won't be visiting again even though we like the area, it's back to Dunstan Hill, at least the Camping and Caravan Club ensure those areas are cleaned properly. It completely spoiled my holiday and I couldn't wait to go home. They are simple things to rectify but what a difference it would make to your holiday.
One water point isn't sufficient either.
The only up side was we could walk into Craster in the evening and have a meal at the Jolly Sailor, a great improvement there since we last visited four years ago and the food was superb, perhaps a little pricey, but worth it!

A super site - the facilities, despite being part of a farm building, are clean and effective. (10p for showers seems a bit old-fashioned and I'm not sure why they still do this). This minor criticism apart, the owners were really helpful, the site was quiet at night despite being quite full at the weekend, and a nearby pub did a decent dinner on Sunday night. A great spot.

Lovely clean facilities, quiet and very well kept site. BUT hard standing was anything but hard. It was very wet while we were there and as the hard standing was compacted dirt it turned into a mudbath, making it very hard to keep our campervan clean and nice to live in, we would have been better off on grass, at least that way we would have had just wet feet rather than wet and muddy feet. Would love to go back but won't if they don't put some gravel or other drainable surface on the hard standing

Couldn't get onto our usual site and thought we would 'settle' for this, however it's a gem of site, plenty of space between units. Peaceful yet within walking distance of Craster and a great pub in the village. Toilet block is dated, but its big, and lots of space to hang clothes and towels, which lots of sites lack. Also they are very clean.
Very impressed and will return.

Just come back from a 3 night stay at this site. Lovely clean and tidy site. Fantastic location to explore the local coast line. Only minor grumble was the tent pitches are the furthest away from the toilet block which overnight when it was pouring with rain was a bit of a pain!
Will definitely visit again

Visited this lovely, peaceful site with friends for 4 nights last weekend, over the bank holiday. It's well maintained and very clean and well organised. Don't be put off by the toilet block looking like a farm building! Showers are 10p but hot and long enough. The only gripe was a lack of soap, hand drying facilities and pegs in the toilet block.
It's within walking distance of Craster and only a short drive from both the beautiful Northumberland coast, the A1 and the town of Alnwick. It would make a good night halt for those visiting Scotland - but don't miss out on all the area has to offer!
We had a brilliant boat trip round the Farne Islands and saw lots of seals and puffins. On the Sunday we visited Alnwick Castle and Garden, both of which we highly recommend. Don't miss your locally smoked kipper in a bun beside the car park in Craster!
Probably more suitable for those looking for peace and quiet as there are no special facilities for children and ball games are not allowed.
We will definitely visit again.

An excellent site with all essential requirements to hand - walking & cycling directly from the site; real ale/good food pubs within a short walk; regular bus service to extend range of driving-free options.
The site is in a quiet location close to Dunstanburgh castle and sandy beaches. Site facilities are plentiful and spotless.
Wonderful kippers can be bought directly from Robson's traditional smokehouse in the village.
We used the coastal bus service to extend our walking range as far as Alnmouth and Bamburgh. Wonderful coastal walking on the North Sea Trail - sandy beaches, rocky coves, fishing villages, bird life, wild flowers.
A visit to the second-hand bookshop in Alnwick is a must.
Lots to do, we will be back!

We have been to this site a number of times and are always greeted with a relaxed and friendly welcome. The toilets and showers are in need of some TLC but the toilets are always clean and the showers always hot. The longer walk into Craster, through the fields, down to the beach banks and along the coast is picturesque to say the least. The pub in Craster is very popular and friendly, it serves good food at a reasonable price and it also has an outside eating and drinking area again overlooking fantastic views. If you like kippers you can buy them also at a reasonable price in Craster.
