First impressions on arrival were good. A site behind a good looking pub, next to a canal. The site itself was open and airy with good sized pitches, and a new looking toilet/shower block. Great! or so we thought. However we had been allocated a pitch 'out of the way' behind a high hedge, obviously an area kept for those who were only staying a few nights. And for our sins our toilet block, behind the hedge, was very dilapidated and in need to lots of TLC. It was extremely cold with no heating, hanging in dusty and fly trapped cob webs. There are fly screens at the windows which need to be freed of the dead insects and debris. The hand dryer refused to work most of the time and when it did work it was for appx 3 seconds only. The showers were so antiquated and uninviting, along with the shivering cold, were a no no. The wash-up area had one meagre lightbulb which hardly cast any light at all. First impressions were not at all good. The newer shower/toilet block fared little better. Still lots of cobwebs in evidence. The toilet bowls would have greatly benefited from a good brush round under the water line. The shower gullies were black. There were no hair dryers but there were plugs provided in which to use your own. Lighting was poor along the road at night, especially as the road surface was uneven. The site would be well worth the visit being next to a pub and not that far from Gloucester, if only it could have some TLC!

We stayed at this site due to the previous reviews that had been posted, in the Adult part of the site. Adult site is very loose term, don't go expecting no children, as your only guarantee is that you will not have a van next to you with children in it, as children walk through the adult site and use the toilets in the adult part which are very old and in need of a re-furb. The Adult site is next to the main entrance and hence suffers from being very noisy due to vehicles coming and going on to the site. The site did become very busy at weekends and has a bigger capacity than 75 standings as the site uses a additional two grass fields which were also full. The approach road is tight in places and if you intend to use public transport to get around it a long walk to a bus stop or the train. A small shop is next to the canal which sell newspapers etc, and a local pub which is nice but is expensive and becomes very busy at weekends.

My wife and I went for a sunny weekend stay and chose this site as it came recommended and was not to far to travel. We had a generous pitch close to the shower block. As other reviewers have posted, we felt three showers is not enough as there were queues. Its a lovely site. My only little moans are, the lighting was very poor and not to be able to buy a pint or loaf was not to be expected from a site with a four star rating

We've been wanting to try this site out for a while, ever since the YHA closed.

The welcome was friendly but we felt it lacked atmosphere somehow. Although the shower block is fairly new, it felt a bit run down. Cobwebs in the loo areas, staining on the floor from the drain covers in the showers and mouldy silicone already. A powerful lemon-scented air freshener does not make an area cleaner!

And the recycling and waste bins were all overflowing after an obviously busy weekend.

One fellow camper complained that there was a lack of lighting to walk over to the shower block in the evenings. Given that her powerful torchlight could have guided the incoming geese back to Slimbridge, I thought that was a bit severe. It's more likely a planning condition, not to have too much invasive lighting in the remote countryside.

The Tudor Arms is a fine pub and we had a tasty Sunday lunch there. We also enjoyed the local ice creams and homemade cakes from the canal-side shop.

The surrounding area is gorgeous and great for cycling; quiet country lanes through pretty villages.

All in all, a great few days, but just a bit let down by the site itself.

Have just spent a week here, on the whole a very pleasant site, we had a pitch next to the shower and toilet block and were impressed with the size of the pitch. One thing that I was not impressed with was the row of bins right by where you wait near the reception, it is quite unsightly and I felt that they could have been put in a more obscured area.

The pub is very nice and we popped in a few evenings, the Canal is very pretty with lovely walks, the shop sells the essentials and seemed adequate, we did not use the cafe, we did enquire about the cycle hire, but were informed that they do not do trailers for the bikes so do not cater for small children which we thought a shame!

All in all a nice site, I agree with the other review re: the showers/toilet block could do with extra cleaning during their busy times, also I found it inconvenient that they closed the toilets/showers at 10. 30am in the mornings! This usually lasted for approx an hour, and I felt that this was a busy time with people having had a leisurely breakfast and then wanting a shower before going out for the day ( well this is what we do anyway )

As I said before this site is in a lovely area, very close to the Cotswolds hills, but not as near as we would have wished to the upper Cotswolds ie. Stow on the Wold etc. We will not be returning again merely because we would prefer a site further up in the Cotswolds as we had before.

Good first impression. Even though office was unattended, provision had been made for new arrivals. Pitch easy to find.

The shower and loo block is new and well maintained, although I would recommend that it is cleaned more than once a day when the site is busy (we were there at bank holiday weekend).

We found plenty to do in the surrounding area and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere on the site.

Shops nearby and didn't need to use the car every day. The walking along the canal was super. Great visit to gardens at Miserden.

The only disappointment was that our pitch had a dip in the middle and when we had rain, the water pooled under the tent and turned it into a quagmire, which had a very unpleasant feel when walking on it ( Thankfully our tent remained watertight).

This also meant the underside of the tent was very dirty when we came to pack up. This problem was not limited to our pitch as our neighbours had the same problem. Would be great if this could be addressed by levelling the pitches and improving the drainage.

Would recommend this site and would visit again.

We loved this site. Although it was full, it still didn't feel crowded. We especially liked that, in the school holidays, part of the site was adult only.

Others have written about the facilities and we found them more than adequate - even in the 'old' block.

We really liked that we did not have to take out the camper van to visit places of interest.

We had a couple of visits to the Slimbridge WWT (of which we are members) and very pleasant walks along the canal.

The breakfast at the canalside cafe was pretty good too.

They even had no problem making me a bacon sarnie using my own bread!

We visited this site last year for a long weekend.

The location is spectacular, close to WWT and the walks along the canal and local villages are superb. We wondered along to a village where they were playing cricket on the village green where the pub is almost on the pitch! and the road runs alongside the cricket outfield. Someone mentioned to us that it is the biggest village Green in the UK. We also went into Gloucester and used a park and ride which was good.

There are no real facilities on site for children so you have to get out and about to keep them occupied but that wasn't difficult for us.

Toilets and showers were ok and would not put me off visiting again.

The on site pub is great and the basket meals were of great value and we really enjoyed the atmosphere inside.

Overall clean site in a great location and we would visit again.

We've just enjoyed a 2nd stay at this lovely site, situated close to the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal.

Since our last visit they have a newly built reception/checking in area. Nice quick, friendly check in with clear instructions on how to pitch, etc. We were in the Old Orchard/Adults Only section on a large hardstanding pitch. Drinking water and bins (including some recycling) were just a short walk away.

The 'old' toilet/shower block is just that old, but it's clean and adequate, although we used the showers in the lovely big new block further up the site. Large shower cubicles, some privacy sinks and plenty of toilets for a large site. The old block does house a small undercover washing up area too, which consists of 3 sinks but only one sink plug so you're lucky if you're the only one washing up!

The site offers very reasonably priced Wi-Fi @ £1 per day. Newspapers can be ordered from the shop at the Black Shed (a short walk from the site) where other essentials can be purchased although choices are limited and very expensive.

The best thing about the site is the pub next door! The Tudor Arms. Our friends stayed there whilst we were on site and said the rooms were great. We all ate there both nights. Great service, good food and reasonably priced. Loads of choice of real ales and local cider/perry. Warning - Crazy Goat (a mix of cider and perry!) @ 6. 8% does strange things to you in large quantities! At least we didn't have far to stagger 'home'!

The walks along the canal from the site are lovely and flat in both directions, although the towpath was a little boggy after the wonderful wet summer we've had. The WWT is also a short walk from the site. We didn't visit this time, but our friends did and said it was excellent and well worth the £9. 30 each entry fee.

We will definitely be back here sometime in the near future.

Have just returned from a week's stay at this very popular park with is situated alongside the Sharpness to Gloucester canal.

The site was well kept and clean and the grass always being cut despite the bad weather on some days. We were situated near a modern toilet block with excellent facilities and particularly liked the two private cubicles with just a washbasin in if you didn't need to have a full shower.

My only criticism, if you can call it that, is that the showers could have been a little more powerful. The inside washing up area was brilliant and also housed a launderette. Facilities were a little more stretched on the Friday evening when suddenly the campsite filled up and the previous week's tranquillity was marred by some very noisy groups of caravanners and campers late into the night, but this can happen anywhere. Ideally, not a site for children as there is no specific play area apart from kicking a ball about on the field which may annoy some campers.

We ate at the local pub one evening which was very busy but the food was good and there is also a canalside cafe and small shop for essentials like milk and bread. Tesco's is about 3 miles away in Cam and a Sainsbury's a little further.

Canalside walks are lovely and there is another cafe at Saul Junction where you can sit and watch the canal activity go by.

We will certainly return next year.
