The site was very tidy and well kept. The new shower block is very nice clean and warm. The area is very nice with the canal and water trust within walking distance.

The Tudor pub is next door and is a good local pub but food is expensive and did not have a chicken meal on the menu which is not good if you don't like red meat.

As for the camp site, Yes will definitely stay here again.

First time out with our new motorhome and we couldn't have picked better weather or a better site! Clean, quiet and we could make all our mistakes without being watched. Had a brilliant time, people really friendly, lovely pub.

We intend to travel and live in our motorhome for six months from September so it was important that our first trip be a good one. Took our bikes for a long cycle up the tow path, first time on a push bike for thirty odd years my usual position is pillion on a large motorbike!

Tried out everything even our awning and we plan to make it our first stop when we set off on our travels in September

This happens to be one of my favourite sites in the country and can only reiterate what has been posted by the previous eriba taffy. It's probable a personal thing really just that I like quiet country sites, no noise, wildlife, real ale pub, safe cycling paths, walking. And that's it, if you want the 'bright lights' Don't come!

Paid £16.50 per night for one with ehu, hope the prices don't keep going up though.

This private site is located at Slimbridge about 13 miles south of Gloucester with easy access off the M5. It is open all the year round. The site is adjacent the Gloucester to Sharpness canal and access is through the car park of the Tudor Arms public house which is independent of the caravan site. You can hire bikes or boats from the unit opposite the site.

Welcome on arrival was good with clear explanation of facilities and arrangements for siting.

There are 79 touring pitches with a choice of grass or hardstandings. Pitches are reasonably level but you may need levelling blocks. 19 of the pitches are in an adult-only area. The main area has a lot of small saplings which in a few years will have developed to take away the slightly open feel.

There is a gate at the entrance which is kept closed during the day for security and is locked between the hours of 10.30pm and 7am.

There are two heated toilet blocks, the original block is located in the adults-only area with showers and WCs and a covered in washing up area. This block is tired and has a drains smell about it but is clean. However in the main area there is a super new toilet block with showers, WCs, privacy cubicles, and disabled bathroom, washing up/vegetable preparation area and laundry facilities. Even if you are in the adults-only area it is worth the short walk to use the new facilities. The showers are large with a built in seat and large dressing area. Showers are pre-set push button operated. The laundry charges £3 a wash.

Service points around the site for water and waste water disposal. Also chemical disposal facilities.

The site is keen on recycling and conservation having a David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award since the year 2000.

There is no dog walk on site nor children's play area but plenty of places adjacent to the site to exercise Fido or the kids. The Severn Way runs along the route of the canal.

There is a small shop selling newspapers and bread at the boatyard opposite or there is a Tesco at Cam about 3 miles away.

We paid £14.50 per night for standard hardstanding pitch with 16 amp electrical hook-up, caravan, awning and two adults.

Local attractions include:

• The Tudor Arms pub adjacent the site which has won the CAMRA Gloucester Country Pub of the year for the last three years. Food was very reasonable and the beer very good.

• Slimbridge Wetland Centre which is about 10 minutes walk from the site and is a haven for swans, geese and ducks.

• Gloucester which has lots of attractions including the Gloucester Quays designer outlet in the docks if you like retail therapy or the National Waterways Museum where you can go inside a canal narrow boat and realise how much more living space there is in an Eriba!

• Newark Park National Trust a delightful house and grounds in the Ozleworth Valley.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return because there are so many other attractions in the area we would like to see.

Paid our first visit to this site across a two night weekend in early March & thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Lovely quiet, flat site which is made all the nicer by it's location adjacent to Gloucester / Sharpness canal. Lovely walks to be had along flat canal towpath, with open views across countryside. Those who prefer to cycle along towpath can hire bikes just outside entrance to site.

Nice pub at entrance to site, with large conservatory area & outside covered area with plenty of seating. Cannot comment on food served as did not pay visit on this occasion.

New shower / toilet / laundry block on site very nice, with several toilet cubicles (plus urinals in Gents) & separate shower cubicles, each with bench and dry area with hooks for hanging clothes etc., one larger shower cubicle also present with own toilet & hand basin. Several hand basins in main area plus two other hand basins in separate cubicles, for those who prefer 'wash down' rather than shower.

All pitches of nice size with gravel area for both caravan & awning with grassed area at side of each pitch to park car. At time of visit, only one chemical disposal point, which we felt was a little inadequate for size of site - this would be our only 'negative' point as this site is definitely going on our list of 'regular' visits, in fact we have already booked again for nice long weekend in June.

 We loved this site.

There was plenty of room for the kids to run around and a separate area for adults only pitches. The new toilet / shower / laundry block was spotless, roomy and had plenty of hot water - no need for a family cubicle as they were all large and spacious. Large paddock for dog walking (please pick up after your animals!) and kids ball games. Right next to the Sharpness canal but safe for the kids and two minutes from the Wetlands Trust.

Nice pub with very good selection of ciders and food - quite pricey and can get very busy - we had to wait over an hour for our food but they did warn us! Access to Towns and Cities good. Cattle Country was an excellent day out for the family. Berkeley Castle, Gloucester, Bristol, Stonehouse, Uley, Dursley and Cam not far away.

One downside which could be said for a lot of sites, if the waste and fresh water area could be ramped, it would save heaving a full barrel over the step. The chemical disposal point had not been completed in October so all toilet waste had to be hauled down to the adults only area to be disposed of. Saying that, building work was underway for this facility on the main site. Bins were placed at the entrance so could be emptied on the way out every day. Recycling option was nice to see. Would be nice to see a play area with climbing equipment for the kids where dogs can't go as we frequently stepped in the dog mess left in the paddock by selfish owners.

Overall, a very well looked after, roomy and friendly site - highly recommended

 Not so good bits:

Park is a bit bland, needs some colour to liven it up a bit.
Disabled facilities need a shower room brush so you can clean up after you. Floor was dirty and no sweep to clean it up.
Several power outages whilst we were on site.
Pitches are a bit tight

Good bits.

Facilities are modern and clean
The site is large in size
About 13 miles from Gloucester near the wetlands centre
Pub on site serves reasonable food
Would we go again. I think we would.

Can only agree with all positive comments on this campsite and the new toilet block is up and running and further adds to the excellence so what more can be said friendly, well run, real ale pub + cafe site entrance,
abundant wildlife,WWT reserve down road, good for cycling and walking, near the M5. Fifth time here and no doubt will be returning. Paid £14/night for two with ehu and hardstanding.

We booked this site for a long weekend in September. From the advertisement and the website it looked like there was plenty to look at.

We weren't disappointed. The site itself is located within a superb area. The canal runs along the edge of the site, but is raised above so there is no problems with little ones gaining access to the waters edge. On the entrance gate there is a very nice pub serving meals, and at the top of the lane (a short 2 min walk) is a cafe and bar, as well as a small shop.

Local facilities are excellent, and if you like fishing, make sure you take your own bait, as it's a fair drive to the nearest tackle shop (maggots would be advised).

The new shower block is fantastic, and always had hot water.

There is a swing bridge over the canal, which the kids loved. Plenty of boats to watch, ducks to feed, and if you like wildlife, a 10 min walk to Slimbridge wetlands centre on the estuary.

The only limitation was no children's playground, but the open space more than made up for this.

All in all a fantastic site in a great location, We will be back next year for certain.

I have to say that this is not my style of campsite. Open, featureless fields with tents and caravans all lined up like a supermarket car park. Having said that, if you don't mind the view from your unit being the next unit then it is probably one of the best, cleanest, and well maintained sites you will find. I can see that some saplings have been planted and in 5 or so years these should provide some shelter from the elements and some privacy from other units.
The 'adults only' section appeared to be a little better with hedges dividing pitches but this field is for caravans and motorhomes only. Tenters don't get a look in.

The pathways around the site are a dusty grey ballast which make a noise underfoot or car tyre and hard on the feet. Perhaps, once bedded down, they will make a firm footing for tarmac.

The new toilet and shower block is first class as one would expect from a new facility. Plenty of loos, showers, and private cubicles for those like me who prefer some privacy while doing our ablutions. My usual niggle is the ribbon thin toilet paper which gets even thinner when you have pulled it out of the machine in which it is housed.

One design fault I discovered was that at night when it is dark outside, the roof windows reflect like mirrors. Not only can you clearly see yourself sitting on the loo but you can clearly see your neighbour as well. Perhaps the owners would like to stick some non-reflective material on them, like frosted glass sticky back plastic sheeting or something.

The general area around the site is as described. The Tudor Inn, a nice and friendly but expensive pub / restaurant at the site entrance (£8 something for ham, egg, and chips and £2.75 for a bacardi and coke) or The Black Shed, an equally nice and friendly if somewhat basic cafe / bar across the road at the canal side (£6 something for ham, egg, and chips and £2.60 for a bacardi and coke).

There is a shop/chandlers next to the cafe providing some basic goceries and newspapers etc. No camping stuff though. They must be missing the market there. Cycles can also be hired but on the day I was there gales were ripping through the area and I didn't fancy being blown into the canal so I walked for miles instead. Very peaceful.

The Wetlands Wildfowl Trust is about 10 minutes walk from the site. I believe the nearest supermarket is about 3 miles away and there is a camping shop within a few miles as well.

Well worth a weekend break and a good base for touring the area.
