A quiet and friendly site at Monsal head and very near to some fabulous cycling and walking areas. Good views from the campsite.
We cycled the whole of the Monsal trail and back (about 18 miles)and had a pleasant amble around Bakewell. We even managed a paddle in the beautiful river Wye!
The Monsal hotel (with a stunning view of the viaduct and surrounding hills and valley)and Packhorse pub in Little Longstone served good, reasonably priced pub fare and both within a few minutes walk away. Also a lovely teashop and craft shop at Monsal head.
Only 1 toilet and shower for women and 1 for the men but kept very clean - no problem for us as the site was quiet when we visited.
Overall a great little campsite and would visit again.

Visited this camp site with a few friends for a social meet over August Bank Holiday weekend.
The site is very quiet, small, but great. Has flat areas around the edge of the field which offers great views both at the top of the field and at the bottom where a quiet road runs past.
There is a toilet and shower block on site which is kept very clean and the shower is hot and included in the pitch price. There is no playground for children as this site is more suited to back packers than touring families.
There is a good pub 2 minutes walk away offering good ales and food.
There are plenty of walks in the area including the Monsal Trail.
Overall a great little spot to pitch for a night or two in a quiet location, plenty of walking nearby and a wonderful pub two minutes walk away.
Highly recommended and am taking my good lady there this coming weekend.

This is a great site for families. It's not too big so it doesn't get overrun but there is plenty of room for pitches to spread out. The owners were very friendly and the site was very peaceful and relaxing. The shower blocks are clean and more than adequate. There's a pub and cafe within 3 mins walk both overlooking the breath taking views at Monsal Head. Monsal Head is a major tourist attraction with trails that go for miles for walkers and bikers. This does mean the pub and cafe charge through the nose but it was pleasant sitting on a wall with a pint looking at the marvellous view.

Very nice site!
Very clean and well presented toilets/showers, field does slope slightly and we did need our levelling blocks to get the van level,
Quite sheltered for saying its on top of a ridge and is screened by large - sycamore? - trees which have, unfortunately, left our van and awning covered in sticky sap.
However, the only downside is on a busy weekend the showers and toilets were very busy and you do end up queuing for the showers.
But, the rates are very reasonable and we will certainly make a return visit.

This might be an exceedingly small and basic site but when the owners allow us to camp here year after year for a night in January we will continue to go back.
We may have to make do with just one toilet and no shower but for one night it really doesn't matter. This is what we class as our Christmas Camp.
It's an easy walk from here into Bakewell via Little Longstone and a stop at The Packhorse and then onto the Monsall Trail. Pick up the bus back to Monsal Head and then a meal in the restaurant at the Monsal Head Hotel.

We had an enjoyable weekend at this site but I have to agree with previous comments about lack of decent washing-up facilities and rubbish (but clean) showers where you had to choose between either heat or quantity with the water (hot trickle or cold gush!).
Found the walk to the local pubs dangerous with kids in tow as no pavements and lots of traffic.
Would also recommend camping at the top as road noise kept us awake.
Overall I think this site is more suited to more experienced campers and serious walkers rather than 'new to camping' families like us.

Park House is one of my favourite campsites: I've been four times now. The site commands a lovely view over the surrounding countryside and is generally quiet, with toilets / showers for ladies and gents. Washing up facilities are outdoors near the men's toilet block, and there is a toilet behind the campsite office for use at night as the main ones are locked after 11pm. The owners are friendly and helpful, and seem to get a lot of regular visitors.
Walking from the doorstep is excellent with paths over Monsal Head or into the dale to Ashford in the Water, a charming village with two good pubs serving food. Or you can walk/cycle along the Monsal Trail, which leads to Bakewell if you head south.
The nearby Monsal Head Hotel has a stable bar which serves excellent food although you should expect to spend around £25.00 per head, and try the Monsal Head beer if you can! Locally there is also the Packhorse Inn a few hundred yards away and the Crispin in Great Longstone. The Packhorse is very small and you struggle to find a seat, the Crispin does good food with generous portions but you need to book at night.
Be careful about when you go. This site used to be a hidden gem, but is now becoming highly popular especially with groups of D of E kids and in danger of becoming a victim of its own success. Avoid school holidays if you can, as these are becoming the busiest times especially with groups. Prices are about £6.00 pp pn however when you book the owners will request a 50% deposit, a measure of how busy the site is becoming.

Stayed here for just one night. Lovely little site, very beautiful views. The site is small but just how we like it. Seems to be the place to go for walkers. It was quite at night and everyone (inc the owners) were friendly.
Not very impressed with the loo situation. There is only 1 ladies loo and one gents. Wasn't a problem as the site was quiet but wouldn't be happy if I was on the loo and there was a queue. Saying that the shower was hot and the loos were clean so I'll stop moaning.
Oh and can I just mention no hot water in the washing up sink - only discovered after cooking a fry up. Not the best thing ever.
The pub round the corner - the Monsall Arms (I think) was lovely. Like an old barn. We had a few bevvys in there as a night cap.
Read a few reviews that the loo's were locked at night but they were open when we went.

We have been several times here`s why
1.Clean toilets and showers 2.Strict policy of number of tents pitched so not over crowded. 3.Over 50 walks 4.Only 5 mins walk to monsal pub, only 10 mins to pack horse, both serving real ale and good food. 5.Surrounded by breathtaking views 6.Good rates compared to other campsites.
These are just a few reasons why me and my wife and friends return year after year.

Excellent site, Toilets & showers very clean with plenty of very hot water. Some noise from road but gest quiet later in evening. As other reviews have mentioned there are too many walks for one weekend, Will return again. Monsal Head Hotel, good food & beer but not cheapest.
