Nice simple site easily accessible and reasonably priced. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. The owners seemed to operate a fairly strict limit on the number of tents on the site which meant that tents could occupy fairly generous (unmarked) pitches and weren't squashed up against one another.
The site is located in a small well kept grass field next to the owners house. Much of the site is bordered by mature deciduous trees so gives good shade on the south side - those wanting more sun can pitch further away from the trees.
The site was nice and quiet (except for an automatic crow scarer which kicked off at 05:30 in the morning in one of the nearby fields)
The toilet/shower facilities were clean and well kept although there was only one toilet and shower for each gender (plus a single extra toilet at the rear of the owners house) which meant queuing at peak times. Also they lock the main toilet and shower block at night - why they do this I really don't know and as far as I could see is rather unnecessary. Perhaps it makes sure that the nearest campers are not disturbed, however we were there when the site was at capacity and I think there would have been enough space for all the tents even if the tent near the toilet block had been moved elsewhere.
Overall this was a nice simple quiet site at a good price and I would definitely camp there again.

Just got back from this lovely little site and was very impressed with all but a few points. First the bad news, not really anywhere to wash up just an old pot trough that's not plumbed into a waste with only cold water, second no hand soap in the toilets and third no method of hand drying.
These problems aside for a quiet no frills site it was second to none, the toilet and showers although only one of each per sex were spotlessly clean and modern, showers were free and electric so never running out of hot water. At £10 per night for two in peak season it's very good value.
The surrounding area is picture postcard stuff and is simply astounding and a walkers paradise, it's only a 5 minute walk however to the Monsal Head Hotel which proved to be an ale drinkers paradise having 6 hand pulled beers on offer.
This is a excellent little site, (The wife is already asking when we can return) if they could just sort out the problems above it would get 10 out of 10 as it stands I can only give it an 8 which is pitty.

Nice site, friendly owners. One shower and toilet each, were locked relatively early at night, not sure why. Kept clean, but shower either trickled, burnt you or froze you, nothing in between!
Pubs very good, went to both Packhorse (locals pub, quite small and packed at 8pm Friday night!) and Monsal head (also busy, more expensive but better beer)
Could have done with some warm water for washing up, and the only other thing I have to mention are the incredibly noisy cows in the next field!
Location excellent for walking, great views over Monsal head. Ashton village also nice, has a few pubs there but we didn't visit them. Close to Bakewell for sightseeing!
I'd definitely go back, a weekend wasn't long enough for the walking we wanted to do! Can't get enough of those views!

I didnt want anyone to find out about this gem of a site.
It was one of my 'secret' sites. Until it was added onto this site.
Never mind. Its a lovely simple site with clean toilets and showers.
Its main advantage is its brilliant location, about 50yds from monsal head and enough wonderful walks to keep you busy for days.
Its not so 'secret' any more.

Camping is in a small-ish field around the main house. Slightly sloping but flat enough, the bottom of the field is next to the road which can be scary when quarry lorries drive past first thing in the morning! Owners were very friendly.
Toilet block in the outbuilding was clean and tidy with lots of hot water, but beware they lock it at night, so if like me you like to shower late before going to bed to save on queues in the morning you can’t. There is one toilet kept open at the back of the house but there were a few people waiting outside at 11.30pm.
Excellent location for 2 fantastic pubs (beware the Monsal Head has got very pricey and they don’t serve just chips on their own - the Packhorse was better and slightly more down to earth) and the walking is fabulous.
I’d return for the location (and the price, it was relatively cheap) but do have issues with locking the toilet block over night for no real reason as far as I can tell.

Don't want to tell you about this magic, small and simple site - keep it for ourselves. It is small, one male toilet and shower, one female. Kept clean. Cold water wash up. But be warned, they do allow party of 5 teen age girls. Very bad news at 2 am - and most of the rest of the time.
Good walks. Nice pubs.
