We visited this campsite on a very wet weekend and found it well drained, clean and friendly. The 2 showers in both blocks were large and hot (there is also a communal bathroom but we didn't need or look at it) and the waste and bin areas were well signposted and accessible. We walked into the village each day (via the back route, not the main road) and found most pubs were dog and people friendly. The caves allow dogs but the poor weather meant that we tended to stay on site more than usual so we'll be back to do this at a later date. Nearby is the huge dog friendly beach in Brean if the weather's good and Cheddar village itself has plenty to see and do if the weather is poor. The only negative thing about the site was the small size of some of the pitches and possibly the noisy football team and church bells now and then. Neither really affected our stay though and we will definitely visit this site again.

When we visited this site the weather was not very good, but it made no difference. The site was wonderful.
The owners were very helpful and made us very welcome. We had pitch by the river.
There are lots of walks nearby, or even the gorge if you feel energetic.
The setting beautiful, with a very quaint old hump back bridge at the entrance.
The toilets are very well looked after as is the rest of the site.
The village of Cheddar is within comfortable walking distance with all the shops and pubs and cafes you could need.
We will definitely visit again.

A lovely site, toilet block was immaculate, within easy reach of local shops and the gorge. The weather was good and we had a lovely week. A bit worrying when you enter the site and see the bridge if you have a large van, but we managed it okay. The owners are very nice and helpful all in all a good rest, the bells do chime from the church but we didn't mind them at all.

We booked this site well in advance because of the special offer during this month (£6 per night for 2 adults, EHU, doggy and 6 man tent!). The weather just happened to be good for the two days we stayed which was a great piece of luck.
First impressions, as we arrived on site were very good. The whole place looked neat and tidy and the owners are friendly. The showers / toilets / kitchen are all very clean and well lit in the night. There is a small shop that sells basic foods and gifts which you enter to pay for your pitch.
The location of the site, as mentioned previously, is within a 10 minute walk of the gorge and four minutes from a supermarket. This short route, however, briefly follows a busy narrow road around a blind bend and over an old bridge which can be hairy to say the least. I would not like to attempt this in the dark! There is a longer way though, around the site and past the school which is much safer if you are coming back from the pub at night. If, like us, you have never been to Cheddar, then the gorge is worth the trip although the ticket for all the attractions is a bid pricey we feel. This campsite is an ideal base in which to explore from.
Unfortunately, the area has let down this gem of a campsite. There was a small river separating our tent from a public lane next to which is the Cheddar football club. On a Friday night this became a busy thoroughfare for some of the young teenagers. For those who are not used to it, the site is also next to a church that has a clock that tolls every 15 minutes! As Quasimodo said 'The Bells!'
So, in summary, well worth going to Cheddar Bridge if you want to use it as a tourist basecamp but unless you have a tourer / motorhome I'd suggest a pitch away from the river / lane.

Great location - friendly welcome - toilet and shower blocks clean and warm. Very pretty at night with all the lights. Nice size pitches with EHU. The dogs loved it as there was a nice walk just off site along the side of the river. Easy access to the car boot sale on Sunday morning (walking distance). A very reasonably priced site providing value for money. Would visit again.

Just returned from a three day break at this site and I must say that the recent improvement in weather made the site under foot very soft but quite well drained.
The approach, first impressions and welcome are to be applauded .
As previous reviewers have pointed out this small site is really well placed for the lovely attractions, pubs and facilities of Cheddar.
On the down side there is no area onsite to let dogs off their lead although you can walk off the site for this, it is a good thing though that the Caravan Club site on the other side of the adjoining lane had a dog waste bin as there is not one available on Cheddar Bridge.
Disposal of grey waste water is restricted to one soak away which was hardly working at it's best after the current wet weather. The site owner did suggest that I could empty my waste container in the chemical waste point (which often appeared to be blocked), I am fairly strong but would be unable to lift a full container that high !
I was a little puzzled that hot water is restricted to a morning and evening session, maybe this time should be used by the owners to have a good look at the amenity blocks as the gents block could have done with a bit more cleaning around the edges (cobwebs), one of the light tubes was out and two consecutive days saw the same discarded empty shampoo bottle decorate the shower 'tidy'.
The OH also commented that the only hand dryer in the ladies did not work, with no alternative facility available and that the hair dryer hose was split.
Some points may be minor but having visited other sites from the 'Tranquil' Adult Only group of sites, they seem to have got them all just right.
Overall this site served it's purpose for our weekend in Cheddar but didn't leave us feeling the need to rush back.

What a lovely site.
The owner, Tracy emailed me as soon as they had a vacancy come up, which was handy as Bank Holiday was fast approaching. I phoned and our pitch was booked, pay on arrival.
As soon as we drove in we were impressed, over an old bridge and into a nice reception area. Lots of flowers and very well kept.
David the other owner made us welcome and was very helpful.
Our pitch was very well kept, complete with EHU although we didn't use it.
Showers are clean and very spacious, water is nice and hot. The washing up station is completely enclosed with two large sinks.
The shop sells just what you need, local eggs, milk etc and is open anytime in the day, just ring the bell.
Talking of bells, the church bells are quite audible, and although I'm not a church person I did find them pleasant enough. The grave yard is next door, and I estimate this to be the dead centre of Cheddar :( No ghostly goings on, and no trouble with local youths making a noise.
There are lots of extra touches at Cheddar Bridge that I have never encountered before, such as a fridge freezer for all to use, and a form on the wall of the washing up station where people leave recommendations/remarks about local places to eat- very handy information.
All in all a lovely site, well kept, and nice people that run it. (Tracy would wander around in the evening saying hello, chatting and asking if everything was OK)!
We're going back next year, as it is a good place to visit, and to see the two friends we made there, and they have been using Cheddar Bridge for 8 years.

Location - excellent, a short work to Cheddar Village where you will find, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, cash points, cafes, ice cream shops (and a big gorge!)
The tent field didn't have its own water tap or rubbish bins, you had to go to the tourer field. The toilets for the tent field consisted of two (one male/one female), these were closed between 10am and 6pm and you had to use the main ones that were the further away from the tent field.
The main shower block had male and female blocks which each had three toilets, three wash basin cubicles and two showers. It did have a hairdryer that was free to use. I have to say that the ceiling and edges could have been cleaner, but otherwise they were fine. It also had a unisex facilities which had the toilet, sink and shower all in one room, but it was in a poor state of repair and cleanliness.
The site is close to a church that has bells which chime half hourly (throughout the night) and the tent field is very close to a pathway that looks over the field and people walking here at night are pretty noisy.
I would stay at this site again, overall the site is well maintained, grass cut, and tidy, proprietors friendly.

We've just come back from a short trip away, and we were both very impressed with the site. The owners were very friendly and welcoming.
The site entrance did throw me a curve though. After prat-nav directions and eventually working my way through the village, I found the sign, and turned in to what I thought was someones driveway. Across a wee bridge over the river to a brick paved courtyard, but we soon saw the reception sign and realised we'd made it.
The site was immaculate, the shower and toilet facilities spotless, and the washing up area was filled with info and visitors recommendations for places to go.
The EHU pitches were a very good size, as we had to encroach just a little on the lovely couple next door. After all the previous weeks' rain, we pitched up in the middle of a thunderstorm and had to line up acrossways to avoid the inland sea forming around us. It drained off very well considering the ground was saturated, although the tide did try to get us once or twice. After 2 days of torrential rain, and one sunny morning packing away, the water was gone.
As in previous reviews, one side of the site borders the church and graveyard, and the quarterly chimes are audible. I hardly noticed them, but the OH is a light sleeper, and heard them, but whether it was that or the stormy weather that kept her awake.
Unfortunately, we didn't manage to get out to see the village or the Gorge. But I'd definitely go back and try again. All in all a fantastic site and location, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

This campsite is in an excellent location, being located just on the outskirts of Cheddar Village and on the best side of the village for walking to Cheddar Gorge. Everything is very accessible, Cheddar Gorge with its shops and pubs, is only a short walk away and there is also a supermarket within a 5-10min walk away.
The campsite is very pretty, you drive over a bridge going over a little stream to enter the site and there are ducks which waddle about the campsite. There are also a lot of trees around the site and beautiful hanging baskets.
The toilet and shower block facilities are very well maintained (there are also private wash-room facilities which is a nice touch and a unisex bathroom). However, there are only two showers and I found that when they are both in use at the same time, the water to the second one is cut off - very funny when you've a head full of shampoo!). Hot water is only available between certain hours of the day, which I found a bit odd.
There is a shop on site and a pot-wash room and laundry room.
The tent field is at the very end of the site and on first appearances looks very nice - it was level and the grass was cut short and well maintained. However, it was a bit odd not having a water point in the field - having to go into the tourer van field to get water. At this water point there was no drain, so I had to keep chucking waste water from cooking etc, into the hedge near my pitch, since the only other option seemed to be to pour the water down the sinks in the potwash room right down near the site entrance.
I found this campsite concentrated far more on the static pitches with not much regard for the tent field.
The bins were also just at one side of the site, rather than being in a more centrally located position for all.
The best thing about this site for me was the bats at night time. Come early evening they all started swooping about the site, some coming very close to you if you sat still - loved it.
Its a shame for me to say that the only bad thing about this site, and the reason I wouldn't go back, is that it seems to have a problem with local teenagers causing trouble (a bit ironic as its an adults only site).
