The main reason we chose this site was because we could have campfires. There were no restrictions on where you could have a fire and we joined with the neighbouring family for ours.
We went as part of a small group with 2 children. The children loved the playground and it was nice to be pitched not far from the playground so we could keep an eye on them, but not so close it was noisy.
The toilet facilities are small. The showers are reasonable size and there are family bathrooms should you have children with you. However, the facilities are limited and there are queues at peak times. New blocks are being installed although I don't know when these are to be completed (based on previous reviews I was hoping they would be completed).
The family who run the site are all very friendly and had laid on food for a Royal Wedding Street Party. It was a shame the large screen tv didn't work out, but they did provide 2 tvs to watch the wedding on. A squish, but these things can't be helped.
We really enjoyed our visit to this site. However, if you are looking for top quality facilities, you won't find these here. Not sure we would visit again as we felt the tariff was high for the quality of the facilities. I suspect they are able to command such a price as the only campsite to allow campfires nearby.
Also, we had a great view of the Isle of Wight from our tent. It's also located a very short car journey from the nearest supermarket (Waitrose). Very handy!

We've just returned from a lovely stay at Hurst View, as a group of 6 couples in our late 20s, staying 8 nights over both Easter and may bank holiday weekends.
I was staying in the log cabin on site, and had friends camping in the field next door. The cabin itself was nicer than expected, there was even a very large flat screen TV which enabled us all to watch the royal wedding. The beds were warm and comfortable, although the sofa bed is really suited to a young teenager, and not an adult couple. The kitchen and shower room were clean and well equipped.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the warden, and the shop supplied the basics at a reasonable price.
There are portable toilet blocks on site while they are finishing the new toilet and shower blocks, but they were always surprisingly clean given that we stayed over both bank holiday weekends when the site was full. Even with me staying in the cabin I used the loos quite a lot as we often sat by the tent, and the blocks were closer than the cabin. I think the site will also look a lot less cluttered once the blocks are finished.
No dedicated pitches, just pop it up wherever you feel, which was great for us with a rather large tent. Other people had put several tents or caravans next to each other with wind breaks and tarps joining to make into their own mini sites. We spent several evenings sat around an open fire by the tent pitch which was an absolute winner for everybody. It was a little windy, but the well pegged tent and an arrangement of cars and windbreaks soon fixed that.
I would say that if you want a site where everyone is silent by 10pm this might not be the place for you, but there was only 1 saturday night where 1 caravan was overly noisy, and they quieted down once the warden went over.
I haven't given child friendliness rating as we didn't have kids with us, but lots of children and animals on site, and they all seemed to be having a great time too. Plenty freedom for them, and lots of kite flying, cycling and playing on the climbing frame.
We spent the week visiting Beaulieu and the motor museum, Brockenhurst, Lymington, Burley(great fudge), Hurst Castle and Christchurch, which are all an easy drive away, and walking in the New Forest. The site is next to marsh land rather than beaches, but is good for spotting herons.
Compared to self catering in the forest itself it was good value, and the fact that there are very few sites with both lodges and camping on the one site meant that this was a real find for us, as my other half could set a fire of a night, and our pregnant couple who didn't fancy sleeping under canvas weren't left out of the trip.
Overall a great experience, and we'd definitely return.

Stayed at the park in March as one of the only campsites open all year round.
Quite reluctant to go after reading reviews but was pleasantly surprised. The toilets were run down but we actually watched them being craned out and the new ones being brought in. Quite amusing to watch!
Spoke to the man in the office and unfortunately as the park is open all year round, work has to be carried out while open. He said the new toilets will be finished for Easter.
On a positive note, great location, friendly staff and in the evening we all sat around a lovely camp fire, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Definitely going back in the summer and it will be an added bonus that the work will be finished.

Well, quite an experience. Having scanned the reviews already left for this site, I find myself amazed at the ability, which clearly I do not possess, of the British camping public to put up with facilities which are quite so basic, to put it kindly. Ok, let's be frank. This site has a good location, not quite having the views over the Solent which were claimed, but then the field nearest the Solent was closed when we visited. What is not mentioned is the next-door landfill site between the site and the Solent, which during daylight hours has a bulldozer, well, bulldozing. The chap in charge was friendly and charming, and I was very impressed to begin with. However, once past the statics / park homes which are nearest to reception, all changes. The field (and it is, pretty much, a field) set aside for camping had a random selection of skips at it's entrance, followed by a ramshackle group of temporary huts.
These were the shop (closed, but it was out of season) and the toilet / shower block. I have never seen such a run down shower and toilet block. Ever. And I am a veteran of some pretty basic festival facilities, which now look pretty swanky in hindsight. The portacabin was very cold, unlit and had equal amounts of rust and wall / ceiling cladding peeling off or missing. The toilet cubicles themselves, four or five of them as I remember, were all soundly blocked in the worst possible manner. The smell was overpowering. The floor covering was parting company with the floor. I did not linger to try the showers, for what I hope are obvious reasons. Outside the portacabin block was a collection of old and very shabby motorhomes and caravans, which appeared to be stored, together with an assortment of trash and bits of old wood, an old table, an old window frame, a sack truck and a huge industrial style orange propane cylinder. Next to the portacabins was another temporary building dressed up as a log cabin, which itself had seen much better days. At the end of this was a pair of 'family bathrooms' which just about (and I mean just) passed muster. Both had working showers and toilets but were very old and run down.
There were a couple of water taps which we found on the edge of the field, which did not present a problem with access for our motorhome to fill up as the site was pretty much empty. The pitches. Well, there weren't any. Not a problem for some, but the 'park or pitch where you want' will inevitably pose problems for access to the meagre supply of water and electric hook ups. This was a site with some potential, although there is nothing to be done about the landfill site.
The nearest pub, the Chequers, is about a 15 minute walk. Very quiet when we visited on a cold early February evening, but very nice and well worth it.

We stayed here for a week at the end of half term. Luckily we managed to get on an electric hook up on the Saturday we arrived. They had organised a huge bonfire with fireworks and the usual BBQ of hot dogs burgers and jacket potatoes. A very nice evening and a change to have someone else organise the bonfire and fireworks for us!
The electric hook ups are at a premium on this site as there are a lot of seasonal/ permanent vans parked up using the hook ups. The site could do with some hardstandings as the grass and earth is beginning to wear away and muddy puddles remain!. Nonetheless, we had an enjoyable week, yes the wind is nearly always there but providing you peg down correctly you should survive!. The toilet block again is in need of upgrading, probably planning regulations making things difficult for the campsite!
We didn't have a campfire though others did whilst we were there. We look forward to visiting this site again as it ticked the boxes for us.

Just love this camp site, have been here so many times in the last 2 years we are nearly part of the field.
Yes the toilets/showers aren't 5 star but your in a field not a hotel.
Denise, family, wing and all other staff are all lovely and friendly. Any problems someone will try to help you out.
Have been throughout the year with no problems with noise or queues.
Quite a few water stands around, part of the fun is spotting them.
Love the level fields, Dont want hard stands put anywhere, it wouldn't be Hurst View if not on the grass, yes it does get muddy Its a field, all fields get muddy in the rain.
The on site shop is handy for milk etc, no silly prices charged.
Will we go back of course we will, us and the dogs Love it.

Good friendly site.
I have had my frame tent pitched here all summer & have visited every other weekend and occasional week days. Wing, the guy who answers all the emails in the office, is friendly & up for negotiation thus I paid £12 per week to keep the tent up here & a further £20 per night when I stayed.
As has been said there can be a wait for showers at peak times and yes they are old, in a trailer and could do with replacing but they are cleaned at least twice per day. All the staff on site are friendly and welcoming and positively encourage camp fires, selling logs for £5 per bag; or collect it free yourself from the forest.
The site can be extremely windy due to the close proximity of the sea but my delta pegs held up well and I have had no problems. Would I recommend this site - yes I would!
If you are looking for a friendly site near the New Forest National Park and even closer to the sea then this has to be the one for you. The only down side is there is no pub/bar on site but it's a short walk across the fields to the chequers which is a fantastic country pub with good beer and great food.
I would happily return on the same basis next year but I am currently looking for a site on the Somme Battlefields in France to pitch the tent for next summer.

This was our first time at Hurst View, been going camping in the new forest for 10 years now and wanted to try a different site, one where we could have fires and be a little more relaxed
We arrived on tuesday 24th aug with 4 tents and set up in the big field in the middle, wind is a problem here but the site itself is great, nice and flat pitches, well grassed etc, great views
Showers were fine, I only ever used the family bathrooms, lots of space and nice warm showers, other people in our party used the smaller showers and said they were tiny, so I specifically went for the family showers being a larger lady, I only ever had to wait for about 5 mins for the showers so that wasn't too bad, and they were generally always clean.
We loved having a fire in the evening and being able to relax and talk and laugh without being told at 10 pm to keep the noise down, which was nice too, though we were respectful to other people around us
The kids loved the site, plenty of space to lay out the tarpaulins and cover them with fairy liquid and slide along and play volleyball etc, nice for kite flying too.
The surrounding area is stunning, plenty of local shops, tesco, waitrose etc, local chippy, chinese and indian within a few minutes drive
Milford on sea is beautiful with a lovely view over the iow needles
We found this site a perfect base to visit all the local beautiful places in the new forest, brockenhurst, christchurch, mudeford, beaches etc etc
And lymington quay is literally minutes away too and very beautiful
The people running the site are so friendly and helpful and the warden is a lovely guy
All in all thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely 100% be going back next year

Had a great week camping at Hurst view. We were a bit worried after some of the reviews we had read on here! great value for money. 2 adults 5 children (aged between 8-14) and 2 dogs. We could pick our own pitch no set space which was brilliant for us with 2 tents.
Kids loved it, flying kites, having camp fire every night (logs sold on site as are the marshmallows) and watching the meteorites was awesome. Went to the beach, visited Hurst castle and crabbing at Milford on sea.
Nice to do things that we wouldn't normally do! lots to do in the local area. Would recommend this site to any family! all staff were very helpful and friendly, toilets and shower always clean even August the busiest time of the year. Cant wait to go back at the end of October for bonfire night. Thanks Hurst view for a great stay.

Went camping here with my 16 year old, his best friend and 2 dogs, and another family with 2 girls. The toilets and showers were a little less to be desired but worked fine (they were a portable cabin that desperately needs updating), the family room however wa supposed to be lovely but I never used it.
At £20 odd pounds per night would have expected a little better, however that said was an excellent place. Scenery was beautiful you are right on the edge of a nature reserve and a very short walk to a dog friendly beach.
Shop was stocked with basic essentials and not pricey at all. You are allowed to have small camp fires which was a highlight for us and they come around the site in a van selling firewood quite cheap. We had a great stay would definitely go back
