22 of us all descended on Hurst View for a week last week. We'd booked 6 months in advance as we needed 4 hookups and wanted to be able to pitch together in a big group. We had a campervan, 2 trailer tents, a large frame tent and three other large dome tents. We all loved the flat pitching and the freedom to setup however we wished.
The location is fantastic. At the end of the main field is a gateway which takes you on tracks right down to the Solent, and quite literally tens of miles of safe flat cycling and / or walking.
The children all enjoyed going off exploring, and collecting firewood. We were in the 'Big Field' which is very large and there is no need to pitch anywhere near anyone else. It really is massive.
Fires are encouraged. We all loved sitting around a bonfire each evening, toasting marshmallows, chatting, playing games, BBQ'ing and generally living the camping life to the full.
The toilet/shower facilities are limited. We were told that this is because the Council have refused permission for updating and improving. We knew the toilet/shower facilities were not brilliant when we booked it. Few of us ever had to queue for a shower though (despite the site being nearly full) as we chose quiet times to go. If you enjoy queuing, go at 7:30am, if you want the place to yourself, avoid the popular times.
Lymington is great, with lovely shops, two good supermarkets (Waitrose and Tesco), and plenty of good value pubs all within a 5 or 10 minute cycle of the site and much much more if you go out a few miles (New Forest, Isle of Wight trip, good beaches further down the coast).
All of us agreed that we'd happily come back to the site another year. If the shower facilities were improved (Council willing!) this would be the perfect site. As it is, it is pretty close.

We booked here for the weekend because we wanted to be able to have a campfire and although the reviews on here were mixed we were willing to give it a go!
It was a pleasant surprise - the toilets and showers were fine, not luxurious but then its a campsite after all.
There were several large fields and although the site was fully booked it didn't feel cramped and we didn't have to queue for showers or toilets once. Lots of room for ball games, kite flying, cricket etc.
Reception staff were lovely and friendly - even lending one of our party a towel as she had forgotten hers and allowing her to charge up her computer.
Loved the fact that you could just pitch where you fancied and our party of three tents could form a little grouping around our campfire.
Great that fires were allowed - it looked fab at night all lit up and liked the van driving round selling fire wood in the early evening - nice touch and not over priced either.
Other campers were relaxed and friendly and there was a bit of noise but just general merry making and nothing much past midnight. Our kids aged from 7 to 11 didn't seem to notice it at all and slept like logs.
We walked to the Gun Inn at Keyhaven and the Chequers Inn close by and both were excellent friendly pubs with great well priced food.
The site itself is not that picturesque and pretty windy - our windbreak was worth its weigh in gold. But if what you want is a relaxed, well run campsite that actually encourages you to have a campfire under the stars then I recommend this one.

Our second hot weekend away this year which is always a bonus. We have a large tent no electric.
Now down to the review, we arrived around lunch time on the Friday & paid at the reception, very friendly staff and told we could pitch anywhere we liked. The location for the site is a complete winner, although being by the sea and with the lack of hedges it does get quite windy, also it's a real bonus to have a site that actively encourages campfires with them coming around on the Sat night in a van selling the wood.
Unfortunately the site has seen better days, because of the fires (i guess) the fields have lots of dips and I'm not sure if the grass is ever cut. There is a good size climbing frame which our 5 year old enjoyed, but it could do with a bit of maintenance (such as only 1 of the 2 swing attached the other just tied up out of the way).
All the amenities are located it one position near the entrance, and to be honest they are in dire need of updating and enlarging. The family bathrooms (2 of) which are the most up to date (and I have seen better) tended to have a queue for them even from couples, who just didn't want to use the other facilities. We never used the ladies but the mens where small and looking very old (rust and chipped walls) and it doesn't matter how many fragrance blocks you put into the urinals (they where full to the brim) it still wasn't too pleasant on the nose. Also in this general area there are 4 washing up sinks, a free freezer, and a chargeable washing machine and tumble dryer. Also this was the only place we found any taps for water.
There is a basic shop as well selling breakfast stuff (include free range eggs), sweets and replacement gas bottles.
One other thing to note is, as I said earlier the lack of hedges to break up the fields, in there place is barbed wire not handy at night (as you don't notice them) or during the day with kids running around.
To sum up it is great location but rather expensive at £20 a night, I won't be rushing back. If they update the facilities, plant some bushes and put more water taps around the fields, I might consider it again.

Stayed for a weekend. Fields are flat, large and provide good pitching. The access to views of the estuary, walks and nature is brilliant.
But when the reception staff said they were fully booked they meant it. The toilet/shower facilities could not take the numbers at peak times. Cold shower on Saturday morning and both toilet and shower cubicles in the men’s block are cramped with limited hooks and no seat in the showers. One hose pipe for fresh water.
There are no marked pitches, which is OK except there is neither control nor advice about pitching well apart for fire safety. This is made worse by fires being encouraged and on Saturday night there were even Chinese lanterns and fireworks being launched by a group of teenagers with no sign of a responsible adult.

Had a wonderful stay at this site. The guy who was in contact with us through e-mail was very funny and helpful.
We were also allowed to have campfires, which was a good idea, as it was a very cold wet, dewy night.
There wasn't a time specified to leave the site, and we had a wonderful afternoon of cricket with our grandchildren. Facilities towards the end of the day were a little messy, but that was probably due to the fact that it was a portable cabin, and they are famous for getting messy when wet.
All in all a lovely site that we will visit again.

We booked the hottest and busiest weekend of this campsites' year! All three of their fields were full to bursting.
The service at reception was friendly and helpful and I have no qualms to their intent on maintaining a good campsite.
After a disrupted night by two large parties of drunken antics, we were compensated in full. This aside we tried to enjoy our weekend break and really loved the choice of a campfire, which is one of the main reasons we chose this site. We had a go at a cardboard oven and managed to produce a reasonable tasting apple crumble!
Good points: Campfires allowed; Van comes round selling firewood direct to pitches; Overall good location; Washing up and shower facilities are plenty; Lovely walk down by bird reserve and sea; Play frame area for the kids and space for ball games; field with friendly horses to pet (owned by campsite).
Bad Points: No-one ensures rules are adhered to; Rubbish bins were overflowing (Smell in the heat was not pleasant); The shop on site was extortionate; Lack of hot water; showers temperature erratic; One washing up area had a rotten old microwave dumped and had obviously been there some time; A bit run down round the edges.
The poor cleaner had her work cut out for such a heavy demand on the facilities.
I may try this site again when there are no school holidays and less cramped. Hoping that we just picked the wrong time to go.

Just spent the Bank Holiday at Hurst View. Usual chaos but still had a great time. 2nd visit to site and will be back again. Seemed to be a little more crammed in than previous visit, believe the larger field at entrance to site was not open for use this time.
Usual mix of bank hol weather but a nice break none the less! Owners as ever very helpful and accommodating. Facilities same as last visit, could perhaps do with a few more loos and showers (as is the case with most sites). Queues in morning for showers but no problem after the rush!
Did have a bunch of rowdies still going strong into the early hours and could have done with a quiet word from the owners to moderate. Can't choose your neighbours I guess, but can choose your site. Choose this one and you won't be disappointed.

Great campsite with very friendly staff. Lots to do nearby, my 5 year old especially enjoyed going crabbing which can be done just a short walk away from the site. Also liked the fact that you could have camp fires.
Only downfall was that the toilets were quite often very messy. I don't think this was the fault of the staff though just some disrespectful campers. Overall a brilliant site.

Nice size fields for pitching but please Solent View, sort out the toilet and shower facilities! 3 fields full of caravans and tents this weekend and only 4 showers in ladies + couple family rooms, (very long queues) 8 or so toilets in very poor cabin type units. These were falling apart, dirty and wonder if they present a health hazard!
Overflowing bins near this area and the cabin shop. Rubbish overflowing, no wheelchair access easily to the showers (I had to assist a wheel chair user and carer as they couldn't get up the step from the gravel).
When it rained the conditions inside the toilets and showers were awful. No proper drainage from the shower area.Showers were tiny. And not all had hot water. The walls inside were cracked, very dirty. If only this area was to be sorted out and had some investment put in to a decent shower block and wash up area it would be great.

I stayed here for a week over the bank holiday weekend.
After heavy rain overnight you had to try and get through a foot of water to get to the toilets and showers, other people on site had been flooded out and had either packed up and left or had to move their tent.
£20 for a night for a tent is a rip off, even for a bank holiday.
The toilets were a portacabin type and were awful, there were two showers in a family room which were warm, but you had to get in there very early or they would be full as they were the only decent ones there.
There are lots of lovely walks, but the price is extortionate.
