This lovely site is only a ferry journey away from our home, but we were delighted with our stay. The site is under the personal supervision of William and Tricia Miller from Wick who really pull out the stops to make sure that your stay is a memorable one. The park itself is very pretty with plenty of hard standings, hook-ups and a facilities block which may not be as modern as other parks but it is more than adequate, clean and tidy with lashings of hot water. The park is only five minutes away from the centre of Wick and two minutes walk from a small play-park which will keep younger children amused. The main entrance to the park is under a railway bridge with a maximum height of 2.89m, but for this season a new riverside road has opened up to the park meaning those with larger caravans and motor homes have easy access to the park. It may not be far a way from our home but we are looking forward to our next visit there.

On arrival my first impression was 'Oh No!' as the site is located just off the main road next to the electricity sub station & the railway line, so I wasn't feeling optimistic that I had made the right choice.
How wrong I was - this site turned out to be a hidden gem! It is green, level & sheltered with a mix of hardstanding & grass pitches both with & without electric hookups. They have a small shop, with facilities to make a tea or coffee or a pot noodle if you wish & will freeze your icepacks at no extra charge on request.
Situated next to the river it is securely fenced off - important when you have a 3 year old. An access road is available for taller units if necessary. The midgies weren't too much of a problem at the site itself as we tended to have a bit of sea breeze to keep them at bay, but don't forget your repellant as you will definitely need it if you go sightseeing.
There are trains occassionally, sometimes in the early morning, but these were infrequent & I can only recall hearing/seeing 2-3 per day during our stay. As we live near a railway line back home this proved no problem to us & caused great excitement for my youngest child. On occassion I could hear the gentle hum of the sub station but to be honest the birds made more noise, so this was inconsequential.
As previously mentioned the toilet block does need updating as although toilets, showers & sinks are clean & plentiful with lashings of hot water day or night, the cubicles are rather cramped & difficult to access with young children, if you are overweight (like me), or have mobility problems. There is a free hairdryer unit in the ladies bathroom, so no scrabbling around for 20 pence pieces as usual. However, there are 3-4 stairs up to both male & female bathrooms, even though there are handrails for support. There are also steps up to the washing up facilities. Therefore access would need to be improved e.G the addition of ramps & bathroom adaptations would be necessary & welcomed not only to comply with current disabled access legislation & to make them more 'family friendly'.
Laundry facilities are limited to handwashing only & a rotary washing line is provided. However, there is a launderette in the town near the harbour should the need arise (with ample parking).
There is a chemical toilet disposal point, plenty of bins for rubbish disposal & easy access to drinking water & grey water disposal. Fire safety equipment is visible & readily available if need be.
A comprehensive information point is available with the latest leaflets on local/regional visitor attractions.
The children were free to play ball games on site as there was plenty of space, even though we were staying at what is one of their busier times of the year. They were able to build dens if they so wished. There is a small children's playground with swings, slide & roundabout adjacent to the site but as it is next to the river, young children would require supervision. A bigger & better playground complete with skate park for older children can be found on the road to the Old Castle of Wick above the harbour, which you could walk to in about 15 minutes or drive to in less than 5.
Reiss beach is about a 10 minute drive away in Sinclair's Bay. Being sandy the kids enjoyed building sandcastles & exploring the sand dunes.
The town, a 10 minute walk along the river is well served by supermarkets, all with ample parking & cashpoints. You will also find local recycling facilities there. The Co-op is a 5 minute walk along the main road, Somerfield is just across the river accessible by footbridge & Tesco is just over a mile away. There is also a Lidl in the nearby retail park on the road from Inverness. The Coop & Tesco are open 7 days. Tesco also sells petrol, but there is also a local petrol station 2 mins away at the crossroads with the A99 which I found to be even cheaper. There are several takeaways if you don't fancy cooking & a couple of restaurants. The town itself is only small & may be considered in decline by some, but it is no different than many other British towns and is still charming in its own way. The local museum staffed by volunteers is a cheap day out if it's raining and if you come up when Wick gala week is on like we did, you will have fun watching the parade, participating in the events on offer all topped off with a fireworks finale on the last day. We found there was plenty to see & do -Thurso, John O' Groats, The Castle of Mey & Halkirk highland games were easily reached by car & there are opportunities to take a day trip to Orkney if you so wish. Or closer to home you could have a picnic up at Noss Head lighthouse and have a walk to the Castle of Sinclair & Girnigoe.
As for William & Tricia the owners, they work so hard & being so lovely & helpful deserve every success in their business venture. As for rescuing firetrucks, William in particular was our hero - he'll know what we're talking about so we'll saw no more about it, but once again thank you! And to cap it all they have wild rabbits on site - sooo cute. Despite the issues highlighted of which the owners are aware, I cannot recommend this site highly enough. It is friendly, clean, tidy, well run & excellent value for money.I would have no hesitation in booking a return visit.

Stayed here for three nights very early May.
The first thing to say is that the Owner who booked us in couldn't have been more helpful. The site was very quiet, just a couple of Caravans and a few tents passing through. The site is flat, we used a hook up of which there were plenty. It was a bit windy when we stayed and having seen some of the other sites in the area I was glad to be at this one since it is well sheltered, unlike the competition. The Toilet/ Shower block was very clean, and although old and on the small side still adequate. Although if the site is busy it might be a bit cramped. As said in other reviews there is a short river walk from the site which takes you into the town, on the down side Wick isn't the most attractive of towns, and looks what it is a town in decline.
This was an ideal site for visiting John O Groats, {20 minute drive away,} Castle of Mey and Thurso. Also plenty of short walks, breathtaking beaches, and sea views, etc around.

Site well run. Good toilet block although showing is age (the owner said this is on his list of things to do). Plenty of hardstandings and hook-ups as well as grass for tents. Owner really friendly and helpful and seems to live on site which helps. Very near to the town with a 10 min walk along the river bank. A good selection of supermarkets in the town and a new Tesco's on the outskirts with petrol.

Just spent a lovely peaceful week at this site, the owners were very helpful and friendly , site was very clean and well tended with several picnic tables (one per unit on our stay), toilets were always clean with plenty of hot water, 3 showers in gents and 4 in ladies never had to queue, hair dryers in both. Several sinks with hot water for washing up at end of unit.Site is fairly basic but this is reflected in the price and if its peace and quiet your after this site is ideal.there is a small basic shop on site but several supermarkets are within easy walking distance. The town centre was a nice 10 minute walk along the river. Local park next to site was good for the kids to let off steam, smaller children would need to be watched as it is next to the river which is shallow.

We Stayed at Wick in October '06 and found it to be a clean and friendly site. Plenty of hookups and the toilet/shower block, although showing its age, was clean and tidy. Situated on the banks of the river Wick, with a lovely riverside walk into town. I would say its a good stop over and would definitely visit it again. There was at some point access problems for the bigger vans, but I believe a new access road is being built to overcome this.

I live in the town of Wick where this campsite is situated. The details on this site and the nearby facilities seem to be a bit sparce! (Prob due to the new owners only taking over last year) This site is located on the banks of Wick river and is near various shops, pubs, restaurants, swimming pool, an award winning Heritage centre and other amenities. The site itself is clean, tidy, spacious and has a river walk and a playpark next door. Being an ex- Caravan club site it has always been well looked after and the new owners appear to have kept this up. To finish up, in my honest opinion the Wick caravan site is one of the better sites in Caithness, due to local facilities and pleasant surroundings.
