July 2003 Well, after having booked at this site and then reading the comments, I was a little nervous. However, we had a great experience here. The ownership changed in March 2003, and they have apparently made some changes - showers are free (used to cost 20p a go) etc. We found the staff friendly, and our big fat tent, 2 card and 2 dogs were welcomed - the person who booked us in came over and had a chat about the dogs (he's a Springer fan too). As a dog owner, this site is great - 5 minutes and you're walking through the forest, with a great walk up to an old iron age hill fort - lovely views. The heated pool is still rather cold, but the good facilities for washing up, ironing, drying clothes etc are great. I guess as a first time user of a 5 star site, I may be dazzled by the facilities - maybe they all have this stuff these days. Kids adventure playground thing is good too.

June 2003 Have just returned from a four night break at this site. Visted last year and the site is now under new management. Can already see some improvements - no more 20p charge for the showers - but this site is still missing the X factor despite its great location. It's not particularly friendly there and there was no soap in the ladies toilet/shower block throughout our whole stay! Shop is only open for two hours a day and isn't well stocked - no fresh bread in the mornings. We were visited by a mouse one night and heard that other people also had similar visits! All in all its nice enough there but I wouldn't recommend it as there are plenty of other sites in this area. In fact we walked to Birchwood campsite one night, as it's just next door, and that seemed pretty nice so may try there next time.

2000 We stayed there a couple of years or so ago, and had no complaints. It's a big site , and geared towards kids around the pool, so it depends what you like. The people running the site were okay with us, although we were in the caravan at the time - unfortunately it does appear that 'tenters' are not treated equally on some sites. There's a café on site which sells things like chips and burgers , and a reasonably well stocked shop. Plenty of electric hookups and quite good facilities , although depending where you are on the site these can be quite a walk.Regarding the location , it's too far to walk into Wareham (especially if you have kids) but a taxi is not too expensive. There's a good pub down the road , but beware the road is very dark at night, and cars tend to go quite fast down it. Take a torch?!There's loads to do and see in the area , we were lucky enough to catch the Viking weekend in Wareham - lots of dressing up and a huge burning Viking Boat one evening.

May 97 We really liked this site and was warmly received by the receptionist on a bank holiday weekend. She noticed we had a small child and went out of her way to find us a nice pitch for our tent which was shaded and close to the facilities. I liked the idea of the playground being in the middle of the field away from the tents - far enough not to hear all of the noise but close enough to keep an eye on the children. Also liked the games room and the fact there was no clubhouse. We did not encouter anyone that was unfriendly. Thought the area was outstanding particularly all the little villages dotted about the Purbeck Hills. Wareham is a very nice town and there is a Queen Anne House in the middle of the High Street which is owned by an artist who sometimes has open days to show his work - because I shared his interest he invited me to look at his studio which was very interesting.
