We booked Chertsey campsite as a base for The Oval cricket ground. We stayed for two nights, arriving the day before our planned trip to the Oval.
We spent the first day relaxing, and the whole of the next day until early evening, away from the site, but we had already decided to stay another night as the site was so relaxing, we didn’t want to go home when planned. Sadly there were no available pitches for us to stay, so we have already decided to go back next year for a two week stay.
There seems plenty to do and see near or not too far from the campsite.
The campsite itself is lovely. A warm welcome on arrival, very clean facilities, with constant hot water, and despite the traffic noise we could hear, very peaceful.
Despite only being there for two nights, and being away from the site for a whole day, we were able to shut out the road noise easily.
Looking forward to to our visit next year.

A delightful welcome from the wardens at Chertsey C&CC who take a lot of pride in the site. The tent camping area was closed (it's February) but they found me a pitch as they have a policy "never to turn away a backpacker" and I'd arrived by bicycle. Backpackers are also given the best possible rate, which for me was £8. 50. Excellent.
The ground is very well kept but quite gravelly - it needs to be well drained as it is right on the Thames. There are many trees and hedges to break up the usual C&CC car-park layout, but it's quite pleasant away from the high-density hard standings. It was busy with motorhomers, campervanners and caravanners, many of whom stopped for a pleasant chat.
The facilities are absolutely immaculate and well heated. I didn't use the showers but it looks as though you can adjust the temperature - luxe! There's a large common room open till 8pm which might be handy on a wet day or if you needed to charge electronics without EHU, but I found it a bit antiseptic and disliked the TV burbling scratchily away.
There's pleasant walking on the other side of the river and the Bridge pub has a waterside terrace and a good wine list, but otherwise the area is unprepossessing. It's under the Heathrow flight path, and the light from the facilities block is excessively bright. Tent campers might want ear plugs and an eye mask. There is road traffic noise but it's distant enough not to be intrusive.
As I live in zone 2 I didn't imagine anything would ever cause me to come to this site, but it turned out to be ideal for checking over my gear before I head down to Cornwall for an overnighter round Penwith. A real bonus that it was such a pleasant stay - well done and many thanks to the wardens.

We live very close to Chertsey site, but stayed FREE for 2 nights by invitation during a trial period in July 2022 at the end of major improvements.
Unfortunately, not all works were complete and things like bins to all areas, signage etc were missing, so not able to judge properly. No local information available at the time. Pitch numbers/hook ups not properly marked, meaning some units connected to wrong EHU and some not available; obviously pitching not supervised by staff. Very poor management.
We understand from other campers that the facilities are much improved. However, for the time the site was closed and the money spent we would expect the site and facilities to be perfect, but they are not.
This is typical of a C&CC site; not as good as a private site that needs to try hard to keep customers.
Following our visit I was asked for feedback and sent some detailed comments. Not surprisingly, I did not receive any feedback from them.
From our point of view, a very disappointing visit, even free of charge.

We stayed here for a long weekend with our granddaughter to visit Thorpe Park.
We had a pitch right by the river which was nice but the weir really is very noisy, something to ve aware of.
Weather was not great and the pitch did get quite muddy during our stay.
Facilities were good and kept clean.
The location is great for visiting Thorpe Park. Also nearby pubs or go in to Chertsey or Staines to eat out.

Exactly what we needed. Plenty of space, friendly and very helpful staff.
We had a puncture in our EZ bed and luckily enough the shop had a puncture repair kit which held for a night but when that failed and there were no kits available anywhere ie Tesco, Sainsbury's etc the site manager offered up his own to get us through the last night.
Clean facilities and very clean site. On site Food vans were superb with lots of choice and great location.
Would definitely visit again. 2 pubs on your doorstep. If you visiting Thorpe Park as we did then this is perfect

PROS: Lovely site next to the Thames.
We had pitch right next to the water.
Showers good, clean, ample room, nice temperature water
Most staff very helpful.
CONS: One day we were just off to get some shopping then returning as we planned going for a walk later. As we drove out a message by the barrier informed us the code had changed. We left about 10:45am and we couldn't get the new code till after 1pm when the office reopened.
Consequently we had to park in the car park and carry the shopping to our pitch. My husband then had to return at 1pm to get the new code and car. The steward told him he should have used the old code. He expressed surprise at this (didn't know that of course) she told him "not to panic". If this was meant to be a joke he didn't find it funny bearing in mind the inconvenience.
Other thing we didn't like. They have a sort of burger bar/fish and chips etc. Near the entrance sign says 'Open every day'. We went for a boat trip and afterwards decided to treat ourselves to the fish and chips. When we get back to the site it's all shut up. Asked why, to be told it doesn't open Tuesdays. So much for open every day.
Lastly, not the sites fault but they could make campers aware. There is large grey fencing before the entrance blocking out the Camping and Caravanning sign so we did a last minute sweep into the entrance. A sign on the opposite of the road would be very useful.

Arrived and was greeted by friendly warden(ness), who ensured that my senior citizen discount was activated, thanks so much for that!. Was shown to a hardstanding pitch and proceeded to set up.
Amenities were well placed and easy to identify. However exiting from the toilet block using the one way system had a bit of disorientation about it.
The site is well maintained and grassed areas kept in good condition. Facilities on site were clean and maintained to a very good standard considering the amount of use they got.
At the entrance there was Pizza van (saved us cooking on arrival night) and at other times there was fish & chips. There was also a mobile unit producing breakfasts etc which was well appreciated come morning of departure.
The only criticisms I have with the site are as follows:-
1) The dog walk area accessed from site is very narrow, very small and I felt woefully inadequate for the amount of furry friends staying on site.
2) On Friday & Saturday of our stay there was understandably a large influx of campers in all forms, but it appeared on the face of it that tents were just being allowed to pitch anywhere and gave impression of overcrowding.
Other than those two issues, for its locale it is easy to navigate to, easy access to the nearby attractions, easy access to the City.
