The Chertsey camping and caravanning site was a delightful site. I went there for a few days with my partner for my 21st birthday and absolutely enjoyed it. Although the weather didn't always hold up, it was good to know that other campers and the staff were kind enough to offer help and assistance whenever needed.
The toilet and shower block was kept well maintained. This was my first ever camping experience and I was fearing badly kept facilities but they were very very clean and had nice hot showers. The block was cleaned everyday and there was evidence of that.
The playground was safe and secure, with swings and slides to play on. There was also a games room with a tv, viewing dish and table tennis.
On one of the days, me and my partner went Thorpe Park which was only 10 minutes away in the car (which I was allowed to park right next to my tent). Also, the local pubs (2 minutes walk away) were full of entertainment and great food and drinks. The town centre was only 5 minutes away in the car and there we went to Chertsey museum and went around the local shops. We also managed to catch a football match at one of the pubs.
The only criticism would be that there should be more site gatherings to keep people entertained during their stay, for example, 'table tennis night. '
The experience was fantastic and I will definitely be returning!

Generally the site is good. Can't see why people mention about plane noise you are close to capital city! Or the noise of the weir! Site is pretty run down and not really worthy of being a c&cc site as standards are pretty lapse.
Toilets no way near expected standards, soap missing several occasions and 'stains', not to put to finer point on it are not cleaned so not sure why they shut them for as long as they do! (mens) my wife says womens are ok.
We struggled to get pegs in awning where we were pitched so bring some solid pegs! Also fair to mention that it is virtually impossible to get satellite reception on majority of site due to large trees! (I did watch several people try and had a good go myself!). Not the end of the world but worth mention.
Excellent base for Thorpe Park (about 5 mins)this is more suited to teenagers. Legoland (about 30 mins) excellent we went four times and Chessington (ok) in other words buy Merlin annual pass and you are laughing!
So in summary very disappointing for a club site oh by the way we drove further in towards London to get tube and then it's far easier and cheaper as parking very cheap.
Not sure what the four site couples do oh and kids park very small for size of the site !

Just got back from August Bank Hol at this site. Firstly it was very, very water logged and boggy and although we had a courtesy phone call during the day we were due to arrive to ask if we were still coming they told us there was some standing water, not that parts of the site were bogged.
Fair enough the weather is not anyone's fault but just a word of warning if it has been raining before you arrive here, extra ground sheets and wellies will be needed.
This site is very expensive for what it is. There are quite possibly too many trees making it hard for the sun to get through in places to dry the ground out and as they hang over the pitches you can guarantee the birds will love using you as target practice.
The island sounds idyllic but you can't see the river from many pitches as there are too many bushes. The dog walk is dark, damp and over grown and is only about 200 yards maximum along the back of a fence.
The wardens were not particularly friendly and seemed to run the site for their own convenience as there was only one bin on the whole site, there was only one soap dispenser in the whole toilet block and when the hand dryer broke they did not even supply hand towels.
There is a small private road that runs through the middle of the site which you have to cross to get to the toilets, bin and other parts of the site.
The only positive thing about the site was the fact that the 2 toilet blocks were very well looked after.
There is some plane noise up until about 11pm at night but some days were noisier than others. There is also the constant low level noise from the nearby main road.
There are two pubs within 10 minute walk from the site, both serving food and with a pleasant outlook over the river. There is a petrol station opposite the site entrance which has a Spar and has most things you could need and a cash point. Considering the price of this site I have been to much nicer, prettier and friendly sites and wont be visiting this one again.

We have just returned from a week at Chertsey. Thanks very much to the previous poster about Rock Pegs which were very useful. The site we were allocated very undulating.
The toilets etc well kept despite some problems with blockages and the site well placed for London and Legoland.
Overall though we would not revisit due to the very poor customer service skills of the staff

Wow, a site that has obviously listened to what people want. Tents are not treated as an added extra in a slopey field at the back of the site. This site is flat, drained and no trouble with pegs,
There is some flexibility in allocating your pitch – hence – “do you want to be near the toilet?” “yes please” “there is this one” “I would prefer not to be under the trees, can I have this one?” “of course but sorry the lawn mower has left a little pile of clippings – I will scoop them up”.
I don’t need to repeat what has been said before about top notch facilities, places to visit and pubs etc, so why be picky about the dog walk?
Very cute rabbits and ducks around the site, but they do crap, so strongly suggest put some pound shop dust sheets under your groundsheet and use a cheap door mat.

This is the second time we have visited this site and we enjoyed it as much as the first time around. This time we used it as a base to go to Legoland with our daughter and visit Windsor and see the castle.
We stayed the latter part of June and the main toilet block was open after having a replastering job in the ladies facilities - consequently one shower was not in use due to this. Again they were clean and tidy.
We were pitched again near the weir which we chose but if you are in a tent the noise may keep you awake at night.
Plenty of rabbits, ducks and squirrels to see and even the odd speedy hedgehog who sped past our caravan during the day! We ate again at a Hungry Horse pub (called Twynersh) in Chertsey which has a big play area for children - climbing frames and swings. You can eat outside or in.
If you visit Windsor there are plenty of eating places - so many to choose from and varying prices. If you go to Windsor by train from Chertsey train station it is free to park at the station on weekends.
The journey from Chertsey to Windsor by train takes about 40 mins. We will back again at this site next year.

We have just returned from 3 nights at this site. We chose it because of the 'Dog Walk' which we were disappointed in as it was a single track where you could only walk in single file and if you met someone coming the other way one of you had to turn round and go back. We took our dogs out at 6am and every morning and there were thousands of midges the whole length of the track and you had to put something over your nose to stop breathing them in. It would have been nice to have had a small field to have walked them in, there was a field over the bridge but it was too far for one of our dogs to walk. Apart from that it was a lovely site, nice and clean and friendly staff. Would go again if we were on our own.

Sad to say that Chertsey is not the site it used to be, there appears to be a distinct lack of groundwork done which means that there are numerous 'rabbit scrapes' and a large amount of tree debris scattered around and many areas that could do with strimming. Considering this site is one of the best staffed I have stayed at (4 couples) it is not maintained to the standard we have become used to.
Chertsey has often been spoke about as the flagship of the C&CC but it is now in danger of becoming a rusted hulk.
It is a shame that I have to place this review as I have had many good stays at Chertsey.
Many of the grass pitches are now showing signs of 'overcamping' with no chance of recovering as this is a 12 month site, much of the fabric is showing it's age with the main facility block being closed for the second week in June for some major work inside.
The site roads are in desperate need of an overhaul with the plastic honeycomb standing proud in places.
Over all a disappointing stay for us

Have just returned from a 3 night stay over the Spring Bank Holiday and couldn't have wished for more!
Toilet blocks were spotlessly clean and there was plenty of hot water at all times of day. It was nice that tents were mixed with caravans and campervans and this seemed to make it very quiet even though busy.
There was some aeroplane noise but not really noticeable in the day and stopped overnight. More noticeable was the birdsong which woke us all up at 4:30am on the first day!
Ground was very hard and not just because it hadn't rained - we will be buying some rock pegs before going again. Only downside was that it is quite expensive but no more so than any other London Campsites.
Chose the site because of its proximity to Twickenham as we had tickets for a match there but it was also very close to lots of other attractions such as Thorpe Park, Legoland, Kew Gardens and Hampton Court.
Well worth a visit for children is the 'Look Out Discovery Centre' in Bracknell Forest - lots to do in the centre and also masses of walks and cycle rides through the forest.

We have just returned after staying 3 nights at Chertsey.
It was absolutely lovely, the site is set on the river Thames, where you can see boating activity,
It's run by wonderful staff where nothing is too much trouble, facilities were very clean, as is the site in general.
Also within walking distance there are two pubs that both serve food. We caught the train into London very easily from the nearby station.
All in all we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.
