Our first time towing a caravan never mind staying on a site, enjoyed our 2 night stay Fri/Sat on pitch 5 which was a cracking spot to enjoy the sun all day/evening long.

The pitches are all very good with hook up/water both together and not far away approx 5-10 mtrs. We were close to a lovely shower block and waste disposal area also reception who are very friendly and knowledgeable.

The site seemed busy so they must be doing something right, a chip shop on site but no bar which was odd for such a busy place, there is a pub off site, turn right towards Frodsham the name escapes me as we did not go in but passed it driving into town.

This is now where I find some bad points as we have been to 2 other sites before leaving this review, nothing to do with lady heyes but we found the path leading towards frodsham very narrow if your walking dogs, so we didn't walk them off site, a shame really.

I found leaving the site a little awkward maybe because it's all new to me, but quite a steep exit onto a busy road.

Would we return, I don't think we would, mainly because of nowhere to walk to with dogs safely in my oppinion, as lovely as the site is.

We spent five nights at Lady Heyes, Sunday to Friday, me and my two boys and my friend and her two boys, ranging from 1-11! Campsite very clean and tidy, we had an end pitch for our tent which was nice, we only had one set of neighbours! Every one seemed to adhere to the 11 o'clock silent rule, which is good for the kids and us to get our sleep! Not much to do on site, but we hadn't planned to spend much time there anyway, there is a beautiful park ten minutes drive called castle park and gardens we spent two days and evenings there with the boys! And it's free! Tennis courts to use, huge beautiful sand pits, and climbing frames for bigger boys. Delamere is literally ten mins away with lots of space and freedom for four young boys to exert themselves! We managed to do the gruffalo trail! Lots of different trails to do. Campsite facilities are all clean, and I think it's very well priced. Would definitely return!

A lovely long weekend had at Lady Heyes Cheshire, chosen for it close proximity to home (only an hour away. )

We were based in a caravan so had a good view of the play area to keep an eye on the kids. Forgot the levelling blocks and needed them (as per previous reviews )as I felt a bit sick all was sloping to the left!

The site was clean and generally well maintained. Alex and his staff were helpful and accommodating at Reception. Alex appears to be cracking down on the noise factor as some people who apparently caused a nuisance on the first night were asked to leave. I slept like a baby!

The play area seemed to be the meeting place for the children and the children loved the 4 turret hideaways in each corner. I have to agree about getting rid of the sand though and perhaps putting in a few more exciting things as we had spectacular thunderstorms on the Friday night, then relentless rain on Saturday day (though baking hot the rest of the time) the play area flooded leaving huge puddles and the children and caravan were filthy every time they ventured out from then on.

No real shop on site, Reception sells caravan basics and drinks, but there is a Morrisons in Frodsham at the bottom of the hill.

Toilets and showers are clean and well maintained, push button system, lovely hot water.

I loved the extra large washing up sinks in the laundry room, could easily wash my Cadac and plenty of hot water. Two washing machines and two driers provided plus a HUGE freezer for campers to use with plenty of room in it, just put your name on stuff.

Visited Manley Mere on last day with children ranging from 9 to 3. About 15-20 mins from site. This was loved by all. Boats could be hired and a great assault course to try to master. So much to do, we only to round half of it! We will return!

All in all, great site for get away weekend locally. Thanks Alex and staff.

Our first visit here, and before I start, I should say that we are more 'field and a tap' kind of people rather than large sites.

Found the site easily enough with sat nav, and the staff were friendly and helpful when we arrived.

Pitches for tents are either in a big long strip, or a large field (but I don't think these have electric). We had electricity, and when we booked online it said it was 6amp, but it was actually 16amp.

The tent pitch was pretty level and in good condition, ground was good, we didn't need any rock pegs. I did notice that many of the caravans had to use ramps and blocks, just to be aware.

The site had good facilities - great play area for children. Some reviewers have commented on the lack of swings/slides etc, personally ours thought this was a good thing. Seemed to encourage more inventive play I think.

Showers and washrooms were very clean, with plenty of toilets and showers, we didn't have to wait. There was a laundry room, although we didn't use this.

There is also a small shop located in reception selling essentials, but Tesco and Morrisons are only a short drive away.

The site is within easy driving distance of Chester, Chester Zoo, the Oaks shopping place Nd Blue Planet Aquarium, for a day out. We went to Chester Zoo - but beware, it's not a cheap day out!

The only criticism I can make is that the children's play area is not visible from any of the tent pitches. Neither are there any benches or picnic seats or anything similar near to the play area so that you can casually keep an eye on the children while they play. The children seemed very happy about this! But I didn't feel too comfortable about it.

All in all though, a clean and well kept site.

I agree with the previous review from TC1962 has said and can't add too much more.

Friendly staff, shown on a map where to pitch which are fully serviced and not very level but spacious. No rules on how to pitch so groups of campers were awning to awning.

Brand new toilet & shower block water was very hot never had to wait.

Kids aged 7 & 9 liked the play area but said it could do with some swings and the sand from the sandpit stuck to you and all over the play equipment as we had a lot of rain that weekend.

My only negative was the quiet rule between 10. 30 & 7. 30 was not adhered to as there was a group of 4-5 units in one awning partying until 1am the first night and 12am on the other 2 nights with no regard for other campers.

Easily sorted if a warden has a walk around and warns people which we never saw (if there are any)

To sum up it's a lovely site that just needs a slight fine tuning.

Approach - very easy to find the site with good access, but once you have turned in its a little confusing and at first a little disappointing, I think the site was originally an airfield, no obvious signs of direction to the site, luckily we followed someone in so we found our way.

Staff on arrival - Very friendly and helpful.

Pitch - we had a fully serviced pitch, but the grey waste does not reach as all services are at the front of the van, luckily we knew this as I had telephoned to confirm the type of pitch, but it would have been slightly aggravating if I hadn't as we would not normally take the waste master having booked a fully serviced pitch. We needed a few levelling blocks, we knew we needed to take them from previous reviews. Personally we felt the pitches were a little close to each other, we had to park our car across the front of the van. It didn't feel like the map, little circles of caravans, pitching felt a bit more chaotic than that, no real rules about how you were allowed to pitch.

Facilities - brand new modern shower block, very clean. You need a swipe card which you leave a deposit for when you check in. When we were leaving, despite check-in being after 12 (I assume) caravans were arriving making the exit more tricky than it needed to be. Lots of shops cafe, chip shop, play barn.

Local area - Frodsham is about a couple of miles away, pleasant little town. Delemaere forest not to far away and Chester is 20 minutes or so. There is a pub within walking distance, but it is more of a restaurant than a pub with only a handful of bar seats. There are lots of little shops on the site, craft, antique, an amazing book shop, well worth looking round. The weather was very poor so didn't venture on foot much more than to Frodsham

Summary - nice large family site, with good facilities. Excellent for children, offers everything on site for a family break.

Was this site for us - this is an incredibly busy site. Being a bank holiday there was entertainment on Saturday, and although over by about 10. 15 the music made the windows on our van vibrate, I hadn't realised the entertainment would be in the middle of the caravan site. We felt terribly crammed in, with lots of Children running between the cars and vans, despite a mass of green space to run around. By the end of the day The shower block had a couple of blocked sinks, where someone had wedged the plug so it wouldn't flip to empty the water - hopefully children and not the adults, but in any case why do people do this sort of thing to the amenities, they wouldn't do it at home.

If there is a group of you or a family this is the site for you, lovely clean and a great play area. The camping site looked lovely, nice green grass and very spacious.

We stayed here over the Grand National weekend in April 2014. We have stayed at this site about 12 times in the last 2 years but this visit was likely to be our last :(

We are family of four (2 adults & 2 kids) our children are aged 2 & 4 and the site no longer offers us what we are looking for. Alex the site manager is pleasant but the toilets block although new (ish) is not well maintained there have been hooks and toilet seats loose for 18 months now! Its a shame as without maintenance these nice facilities will quickly deteriorate. As we have seen over a 2 year period.

2 years ago this site was a really nice find but we feel that is style over substance. The play area is a muddy enclosure with a sand pit which has set like cement. There is very little in there to keep kids interest for very long as can be seen by lack of use. Up until last season there was on on site club house ran by a really nice hard working couple. Suddenly at the beginning of this season they where evicted and the club house is currently being converted in to another shop for the craft centre.

There's an indoor play area at the adjacent craft centre which is filthy and over priced. Thankfully its only open 2 hours a day at weekends. For us the site has become over subscribed and is nothing special. Its very open to the elements as situated on an open plain. If there's any wind about then you are going to feel it! There are some level pitches but many are far from level and you will need blocks unless you know where to book. Pitches 39 and surrounding area we found most level but pitches are quite close together.

The site has a loose stone pathway but is harsh underfoot and not good for kids unsteady on feet or on bikes etc.

They are now cramming in more people in 'Glamping Pods' which will mean even more people and even less space.

They offer themed music events but charge extra (£10-£20) whether your interested or not and with young kids this just excluded us on those 'special' weekends.

Overall there are nicer sites situated close by in our opinion.

Camp site a lot smaller than it looks on the site map online,

Pitches very spacious, hardstanding and grass.

Playground with sand for the kids, could benefit from swings but still adequate for the kids to play and meet each other.

Toilets spotless, showers hot, free push button type again spotless.

Card access to get into toilets and showers, this is a very good idea.

Laundry and pot washing, again spotless.

Water and electricity per pitch.

Warm and cold boot or dog wash, we used this and took our own short hose to wash both our hairy hounds, very welcome and should be standard on all sites.

Dog run where dogs can be let off lead, ample dog waste bins.

Friendly staff.

Read reviews that site not level, but we found no problems regarding this.

Would return.

Spent a very wet May bank holiday here with family on recommendation from a family friend so had high expectations, more so after reading the positive reviews.

Arrived fri pm to be greeted by very friendly staff who pointed us in the direction of our tent pitch. The online booking system is great and allows you to book even via your phone if on the move.

We opted for an end pitch on the over-spill field due to having our dog with us and hoped this would also give us a little more room, as the pitches didn't look big enough to accommodate a large family tent like ours with side extension. We were right to do this as a standard pitch would not have allowed us to pitch our side extension that we use as the kitchen. We have a Vango Tigris 800.

Electric point was shared with another pitch and the electric point was too far away for our cable to reach- the friendly manager happily offered us an extension, so can only presume this must be the norm- seems more electric points need to be put in place. Pitches are level and seemed to drain well (on the over-spill field) and the field was great for the kids to play football etc. Dog walk is small but ok.

The children's play area (huge sand pit) would be great if the sight was in sunnier climates but not ideal for the UK. Due to the amount of rain it was a huge sand bath!

This site has a lot of families visiting and needs slides, swings, zip wires & climbing frames. Not a sand pit!.

The entertainment put on during Saturday was average at best and nowhere to get a drink from- resulting in people wandering back and forth from caravans and tents with glasses and bottles- not ideal over a busy bank holiday weekend with lots of children running about.

The shower facilities are without a doubt the best we have ever seen. Also spotted the cleaners going in on a regular basis- huge thumbs up for cleanliness. Unfortunately this is the best the site has to offer other than the friendly/helpful staff.

The other facilities are not actually on the site- craft area, pot painting and soft children's play area craft like shops & antiques. This means more expense to keep children occupied.

I come away camping for cheap weekends away in addition to holidays abroad so once I've paid for the site I like to keep my spending down to a minimum. This site gave me no option but to spend more than I would usually spend whilst camping, not just because of the poor weather but no park for my children to play in, after all. There's only so much football & cricket they can play.

Also think a snug room would be a huge benefit which I have found at other sites. Also no bar/pub on-site.

The soft indoor play area mentioned above was extra money and only open for a couple of hrs a day. The cafe looked lovely but we had our dog with us and gave up after waiting 10min for staff to clear the water from table & chairs outside- poor service! and yes. Staff were aware of us waiting.

Due to poor weather and lack of things for the children to do ie no park indoor or outdoor- we left a day early which is something Ive never done whilst camping in the past.

To sum up this site-if your happy to spend money to keep the children occupied then this site is ideal, however if like me. You camp to get away from the stresses of work for cheap weekends then think again! Came away feeling very disappointed with this site.

Just returned from another weekend at this site. 3rd time this year. Because of its location, only an hour away, and it being reasonably priced, this site makes a good weekend get away for us. The pitched are not level, so bring your ramps. All pitches are serviced, but the pillar is at the front of the pitch and supplies the pitch next door, so you might struggle with the distance. I managed to connect my water, but my grey waste hose was not long enough. The shower block was clean with plenty of hot water and the under floor heating is great on a cold morning. A £10 deposit is required for the pass which unlocks the showers and also gives access to site.

The play park is a wooden fort with a sand pit and boat inside for the kids to play on, this could be improved, but for a weekend its ok. There are some shops on site, fish & chip shop, craft shops, bar and play barn for younger ones for bad weather days although my 2 are too big for this now.

Its a small and friendly site and will be going back.
