My wife, 2 young children under 5 and I spent 6 nights camping at Coniston Hall campsite in a 6 man Vango tent ( 6 x 3 m ). Good things about the campsite were: 1. Flexibility to pay day by day 2. No deposit required. 3. Reasonably well maintained toilet / shower block. 4. Very good location next to Coniston lake. 5. Spaceous campsite, although can be difficult to find a pitch in wet conditions. Bad things about the campsite were: 1. Only one toilet/shower block for a large site 2. No restriction on space between the tents. Good idea to take external table, wind shield, etc to stop others pitching too close. 3. Boggy, muddy and stony in places. Took 30 minutes to find a suitable location. 4. Not recommended for peak time camping. 5. Limited washing and tumble dryer facilities. Only one of each. Overall opinion is that we will only use the campsite again out of the peak season.

Just spent 3 days here (went for 1 and stayed for 3). At £12 per night for a tent, car, 1 adult, 2 children and a dog. Ive stayed here twice before and will be going back again. As with everything it does have its down sides. But in my opinion they are very minor. The ground is very rocky so take a mallet for knocking the pegs in. You don't need to book so do get there early to get a good pitch. Thought there was a lack of bins around the place this time, but then again I didn't look that hard. The plus points are why I keep going back. The staff are very friendly. The walk up the Old Man is great and the kids managed it this time! The walking in Grizedale Forest from the visitor centre is fantastic. The mountain biking is great in the forest too. There is a nice walk from the site into the village keeping away from the road. The site itself is well maintained, the shower/toilet block is always clean. 50p charge for shower that seems to last for ever. And there were no queues. The noise curfew seems to be well kept. Hope you like animals too. 1st morning we woke to find around 30 sheep outside our tent. The next morning there were 3 peacocks and the last morning 5 goats were walking around entertaining the kids. There isn't a playground on the site wish I suppose is a negative but this is a proper campsite not a holiday village. But its probably the best campsite Ive stayed at this year so far. Cant wait to go back

Excellent Campsite, Ive been coming to lakes for a few years now and cant keep away from this campsite, my little girl loves it. This time I somehow forgot all my tent poles and was stuck in a rut, so I spoke to the the owner and his wife and they immediately helped me and borrowed me a tent for the night. Great site, love the village and great atmosphere. Will go back again and again

This site always amazes me cos it doesn't matter when you turn up you will always get on! Been here a couple of times and providing you have strong pegs, 50p for the showers and patience for the laundry everything is good. So many places to go to locally even for kids (pony trekking just up road is worth while). Avoid catching bus from Coniston unless you re-mortgage your house (£3.90 adult single to Ambleside). The village is about 20-30 minutes from site along paths through fields but watch for randomly placed animals and their dinner from yesterday, Consiton has everything you need but would highly recommend Crown Inn, a place so brilliant that my 7 year old was served a pint of bitter, and if you get stuck for essentials there is a BP garage on way to village that is usually well stocked. The site can be a bit noisy but its camping and if you want quiet there is a cemetery at the top of the hill.

Just spent what must be the wettest weekend under canvas! Coniston Hall site is ROCKY so hard to peg out but quick to drain. The Croft site at Hawkshead which we checked out on Saturday was mostly waterlogged, this site much drier. Site seemed to naturally be divided into quiet couple areas (near to the entrance), lively and noisier family areas (around the shower block) and young "we're here to party" groups (in between the other groups middle of the site). The noisy campers however all quietened down by 11ish.
Arrived at 2 o'clock on Friday (no booking required) but site already about one third full - have a scout around before you pitch as there are some nice little nooks and crannies around the outer walls. Showers and toilets very clean only complaint is the lack of anywhere to put your wash kit - hooks in the shower cubicles but nowhere in the main washing area and the floor is always wet of course. Also only 3 sockets for hairdryers which are poorly sited at one end of the basins so most had to wait to use them. Plenty of water taps and dustbins around the site which were emptied regularly. Shop is very small but sells all the essentials (if you can't see it - just ask) with friendly staff. Quick check in and check out even when busy. Good value at £12 for two nights for 2 adults + 1 tent. A path out of the site leads you to the water's edge (very nice walk) and then around part of the lake and you can walk into Coniston village through the fields without touching the road (about 15 mins ). Nearest pub is The Ship 5 mins walking from the site up on the main road which serves good value plentiful meals from 6pm till 9.30pm and is MUCH cheaper than the pubs in Coniston although The Black Bull in the centre has a better selection of ales. Coniston Country Fair was on the adjacent field on Sunday but was disappointing - not anywhere near worth the £5 adult or £2 child admission price. Overall well run for a largish site but try to get there before the crowd if you can to get the best pitches.

Great site very well maintained toilet block in good condition. A clothes washing facilities. Its 2 minutes from the lake about fifteen into town, and takes roughly 3 to 4 hours to climb coniston old man and the views are breath taking, from here you can walk to Tarn Hows, Hawkshead, Grizdele forest and plenty of other sites to see. Me and my partner will definitely be returning.

Just returned from a week at Coniston Hall the weather was nice one day of rain and wind the rest of the week sunny if you pitch in the right spot you have sun all day. I found the staff ( Brian, Caroline ) to be very friendly , good well stocked shop. Very clean shower and toilets that are cleaned all the time. As this is a working farm there are plenty of notices to say that you must keep your dogs on a lead at all time , howerver there was alot of people that do not adhear to the notices which is anoying for the people that do like myself, that's how accidents happen and then it spoils your holiday and you've only yourself to blame (please campers keep your dog on a lead) I camp here about 5 times a year, you do need heavy duty tent pegs, if you want a great holiday stay here 15 min to village, Crown pub is great food, 2 min to the lake.

This has been my second visit to this site, first was back in Easter, and this time it was even busier. You will will able to camp here as I don't believe the owners ever class the site full, I had my car blocked in by tents 3 times as people were camping on any bit of space left. The Owners should stop people turning up after a bit because being so cramped in spoiled the weekend. The ground is very hard, you will need stronger pegs and a good mallet, the site is littered with half bent cheap pegs. The showers are from the 1960's and take a few 50p's with you as they have a tendency to eat your money and not turn on, on my last visit 3 showers were not working and people started to jump in after other people if a shower was already running. No refunds from the site office if this happens, be warned. The rest of toilet facilities are ok, just busy in the mornings and the hot water runs out by 9am. Its regularly cleaned and toilets paper is always there, although most door locks are either ripped off or repaired with screws, they were not replaced since I last saw them at Easter. Noise is a big problem as they allow large male groups (even a stag party) Music was loud well into the night and started again early in the morning, people use there cars to play it. I did complain to the owners, but nothing was done, I felt sorry for the families there as young children could not sleep. There was also a large part of the field set aside for school trips and they also caused a lot of problems with the teenagers running amok all morning and night. There was also always a strong cannabis smell wafting over the tents, people relaxing a little to much I think! This site does not allow fires but people do anyway and no-one stops them You must also be off site at 12 noon on the day you leave, one of our party left around 1pm and they tried to charge a extra night. Although the scenery is lovely, right next the lake and a short walk to Coniston village, try to avoid busy weekends. If your after a quiet time, this place is not for you. If your looking for a festival style weekend, you'll enjoy this site. Oh and a bit of advice, dont pitch up near one of the trees with a rope swing. At 7am you'll understand why!

A lovely, picturesque campsite. A group of mini owners stayed on the 2nd June after not being accepted at other campsites because we were a group. This site was very friendly and accommodating. Thank you. Toilets in the group area were clean but damp and there was no toilet roll (maybe I should have brought some). Shop seemed well stocked and the prices for camping were very reasonable. Noise was never a problem. My partner and myself are planning to return later in the year to walk up Coniston Old Man, so we will camp here again.

Site is not set out, so camp where there is space.
Found the site to be reasonably litter free considering the number of people there. As it was at the end of the bank holiday, I found the site to be quite busy. Good mixture of people.
I agree with the last persons comments on the site. The site was quite noisy at night until the late hours. This was mainly due to the single sex groups and large family gatherings.
The toilet block I went to was clean and although dated and was well maintained.
