Just spent 4 nights here in the last week of May. Site is well located right on the lake-shore and 15 minutes into town. Facilities are OK, a little dated but functional, definitely worth taking 2 x 50p coins for showers as a couple of times we could have got caught short! A strong hammer and pegs needed, as bent many trying to pitch the tent! Noise levels were fine aside from the last night which was extremely noisy! Worth ringing beforehand as website said there was no space, but there was plenty on turning up without a reservation - open plan field.

First camping experience and learned a lot from this site. The ground is soil / mud over rock so invest in some heavy duty pegs if camping here. The wind can whistle down the valley and any poorly secured tents will suffer! A very popular site with no real boundaries between yours and your neighbours. We went on a bank holiday and there was a lot of noise throughout the night, radios etc. Also come around midnight you get a steady stream of people walking back to the site from the pubs in Coniston. The shower facilities are very clean, pretty much every time you went to the block you would see a cleaner there. There was often a queue for the showers at 50p a time. Washing facilities and laundry were also available with only having to wait a few minutes even at the busy bank holiday weekend. If going for a quiet site, avoid this place at peak times, but otherwise I can see the attractions (if you have heavy duty pegs).

This campsite has a great location on Lake Coniston and only a short walk into the village (handy not to have to drive for evening meal and pub). The facilities are clean, (if a bit ‘secondary school’) with enough loos and showers, the latter cost 50p each but drove me nuts trying to get them to work at first. As mentioned elsewhere take at least 2 x 50ps! Can be a bit expensive and awkward if you have a young child.
The campsite is fairly big and as such there were a lot of people. Whilst I don’t go to a campsite expecting silence, and love the communal aspect, noise was a bit of a problem, thanks to some inconsiderates/ summer hols/ arrivals at all times of night. My hint? Get a spot near the edge, or go outside the main hol season. But don’t rule it out, the campsite is worth seeing beyond this, and it may be that we were just unlucky – a lively ‘we love beer and swearing’ youth club set up camp next to us which didn’t help. The odds are in your favour. Local attractions - the beautiful Old Man of Coniston for a good stout walk, take your butties and plenty to drink. And all of the other Lake District attractions, including the pier in so many Athena posters – you can’t stay here without pointing a digital camera down this, it’s compulsory. There is a small shop on site and pubs within 10mins walk. If you want a great banging nightlife – why are you visiting the Lakes?! Try Manchester instead. And leave this happy camper in peace please! It’s friendly here and families/ couples/ peaceful singles who like walking and Lakes will get on well. Maybe the site managers could think of making a ‘quiet area’ and a ‘less quiet’ area to keep everyone happy.

I stayed at this campsite for 3 nights, and had a great time! Being only 16 at the time I had a lot of fun and enjoyed walking around and exploring the campsite. Coniston Water is a 2 minute walk from your tent (depending where you pitch obviously, no more than 10 mins if you are pitched further away on site) and an excellent sand and stone beach sits beside the water. Its perfect for taking your chairs down of a night time and sitting listening to nothing but the water lapping against the stones. The ground is hard, but nothing that a set of heavy duty tent pegs couldn't cope with, and the site is not very muddy. The toilets are VERY clean and there is always plenty of toilet roll to hand. Showers are clean and cost 50p, which is not expensive because you get plenty of water AND IT IS HOT! If you are particularly fussy (like me) then I would wear flip-flops when taking a shower, always makes me feel a lot more comfortable. The cleaner never seems to be away from the toilets! There are power points, for hair dryers, straighteners etc, and plenty of hand-wash basins and mirrors for doing your hair and make up. The pitches can become very busy, but not claustrophobic, and there isn't usually any problems with other campers. There were a few tents up until around 2am, drinking and listening to music, but they were not antisocial and weren't too loud. There are more facilities, such as the shop. This stocks the basics, and sweets/ice creams etc. Coniston is a 2 minute drive away (if you're lazy) or a 15 minute walk. Because the pitches can be quite close together, I wouldn't advise visiting on a bank holiday if you are the type who likes to be in bed by 8pm with a Disney book, but the fun of being so close to your neighbours, for me, makes the experience a whole lot better. I am visiting the site again this year, this time with my boyfriend, and hope to experience the same pleasure of the site that I did last time. Thanks

Camped here for 2 nights over May bank holiday weekend. Decent site right next to the Lake, only about 10 minutes walk to Coniston Village. Good clean toilet facilities and there is always hot running water. There's also outdoor basins to clean cooking utensils, plates etc. However, the actual camp site is massive so make sure you pitch as near to the toilet/bathroom block as possible as it's a long walk up the hill every time you need to use the loo, showers or basins. Showers cost 50p (need exact 50p piece) and run for about 3 minutes, again always hot. Only downside is the hard ground (most of the site), bent nearly all my pegs but cheap to replace so all in all a decent weekend break.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at Coniston Hall for the bank holiday. Was very busy and did resemble a festival camp site at the height of the weekend, but we had expected this. Despite being so busy there was never a long wait for the showers or toilets and they were kept very clean. Bins around the camp site were emptied very regularly but we were disappointed to see no recycling facilities provided even at a basic level. Would be great if they could find some way of discouraging people from driving to the shower block but I guess this happens on a lot of sites! Lovely walks along the side of the lake.

Just spent four lovely days at this excellent campsite. Nice flat pitches, not too crowded despite superb weather, generally very peaceful with lovely strolls around the lake and to the village (as well as some superb longer walks nearby). Toilet block basic but always very clean and always plenty of loo roll! Showers were a bit disappointing (not very hot and a bit 'dribbly', but you can't have everything!). We will definitely return here.

Just returned from a lovely weekend at this site, and we couldn't really fault it- large site, and I agree with others saying there are lots of nooks and crannies to camp in. Great location-we didn't need to drive off the site once as there is plenty to keep you occupied on site being right next to the lake, and also there are good footpaths into Coniston and various walks around the lake. Coniston launch boat stop is a 5-10 min walk round the lake. Coniston village is a 10-15 min walk away with a couple of pubs & shops. Lovely scenery, facilities are more than adequate with plenty of water supply taps, showers (remember 50ps) and even power points so you can take your hairdryer! The owners seemed very friendly and relaxed. There were a few people up chatting and drinking until the early hours but no loud music or anything, and people are on holiday after all! The ground is quite hard, take some heavy duty pegs! We will definitely return to this site, the only negative is that I would imagine this place gets very busy in high season and you could end up feeling a bit on top of your neighbours!

I have been staying on this site on average six times per year for the last twenty years. Both Brian and caroline have been helpful and friendly all the time. The shower and toilet facilities are cleaned twice daily and there is a constant supply of hot water. Although it can get a bit noisy caroline is usually on hand to sort folk out. As mentioned previously it is only a short walk into town where there are plenty of pubs and different ales to satisfy most drinkers, the Black Bull is a must for the home brewed beer and a tour round the brewery can also be arranged. This is a lovely site and well worth a visit

An excellent site - I have been coming here for 20 years and it has not changed a bit. The toilet block is cleaned twice a day, the shop is there if you need it and you have direct access to the lake for sailing dinghies and canoes. There are National park footpaths into, through and out of the site - so you wont need your car all weekend to get into the nearby town. There are also briliiant views of the lake - and all from £4.50 per night per adult, plus £3 for cars and £1 per boat. You can t go wrong, really, can you? Go there, enjoy - but please control your dogs and remember that when you have gone - the sheep and cows return. As they don't camp and cant put up a tent, they won't appreciate camping litter (e.g. Tent pegs, rubber bands and loose guy lines) Finally - be sure to pitch your tent door facing north west - then you can open it to appreciate the simply stunning views of the old man and the yew tree tarn area.
