We stayed at this campsite for 5 nights in July, and it was like visiting two completely different sites.
Our first few nights were midweek in school term time. The site had only a few campers despite beautiful weather, there was no noise, just people enjoying the cycling, walking and boating that you can do straight from the site.
Then Friday night arrived, and an unbelievable number of campers poured onto the site. It soon became very full, and at one point we were so hemmed in by tents that we found it difficult to get our car out when we wanted to. Some of the campers were families, but a lot were groups of young (and not so young)adults out for a 'beer and BBQ' type weekend. It changed the feel of the campsite completely, and noise levels went up accordingly. However the toilet/shower/washing up facilities coped admirably and were always clean, and the whilst the noise did continue late into the night it was mainly just chatting and the odd burst of laughter - nothing out of the ordinary for a busy site. And by Sunday mid afternoon it had reverted to the peaceful haven it was when we arrived.
Overall, the site is well worth a visit. The scenery is beautiful, the facilities not luxurious but not lacking in any way, and there is the huge advantage of being able to swim or launch boats straight from the campsite into the lake. If you want peace and quiet go mid-week if you can, if you don't mind a bit of noise and a more 'festival' type atmosphere, then the weekend is fun if busy. Take your pick!

I have been going to coniston hall all my life, fifty plus years. Yes it can get noisy on weekends and bankholidays, but where doesn't. I find the owners very pleasant. The site is in lovely surroundings. Would recommend it. It does get muddy in the wet, but at the end of the day it is a field. Toilets are clean and well looked after. Plenty of hot water handy. For the village, launching boats, etc. Love the place

Two nights stay at this campsite and what a good site (regardless of the terrible weather ) as other reviewers have mentioned there is now a ten pounds deposit for the card needed to access the site by car, this is, of course, refundable on leaving.
Staff are friendly and helpful. Toilets and showers plentiful and clean, showers are :50p for a long hot powerful shower, plenty of sinks in bathroom with a plentiful supply of hot water, dishwashing facilities are also plentiful with endless hot water, there is also a launderette on site with tumble dryers as well as washing machines.
I would advise going midweek if you wish for peace and quiet, as a rowdy group turned up on our last night ( Thursday ) and blasted out loud music until 3:20am whilst running through the woods screaming, campsite owners spoke to them the next day.
Coniston itself is a short walk away with good pubs a couple of shops and a fabulous chippy. All in all a site to recommend.

Good location with friendly staff. Entrance for vehicles has secure card scanner which has a £10 refundable deposit. The site has undulating ground which means it also has damp patches. Great for launching kayaks (they charge £1 a day for this) as the site is right on Coniston water and the other side has lovely craggy woods. The shower/toilet block was basic but clean. The site was a bit crowded and noisy for my liking but it was a bank holiday when I stayed. I would use the site again but out of season or mid week when kids are in school !

Just returned from a weekend at Coniston hall. This site is in an amazing location. The setting and scenery is spectacular, it is among the finest in the lake district.
It borders the shore of coniston where it is safe and shallow for net fishing and paddling. There is a lovely footpath crossing fields well away from the road that leads you into the village which has a handful of pubs and gift shops.
Unfortunately it has its downsides :
It is a trek to the one toilet block which is functional enough, but has become very dated in comparison to what we tend expect for the price these days. The sinks have no soap dispensers and no hand driers. The showers are basic, cost 50p, and the one I used had little power and was only just warm enough.
The ground is very uneven and boggy in places and rock pegs essential.
Also can get very very busy at weekends and don't appear to be any limit on groups or noise.

A nice waterside location that we have known for many years, but this site is heaving in summer so we visited on an October weekend when it was very quiet. Just as well as most of the ground was wet and muddy and there is little or no hardstanding.
It is a trek to the one toilet block which is functional enough, but has become very dated in comparison to what we tend expect for the price these days. The sinks have no soap dispensers and no hand driers. The showers are basic, cost 50p, and the one I used had little power and was only just warm enough.
In view of these dated facilities and the poor state of the ground I felt £15 for the night for 2 of us was steep. It did not appear that much of the money made from campers (and they are here in hundreds during the season) gets ploughed back into the site.
Having said that, the location is superb and there is lots to do if you enjoy outdoor activities - walking, biking, watersports, etc. Coniston is a 20 min walk away.

We absolutely love camping here with our family. Our children (7, 5, 3) really enjoy being so close to the waterside. The site feels secure and there are usually other children to play with, giving all parents a bit of a break.
There are no entertainment facilities, but then this site is all about the scenery, which is quite stunning. Sitting down on the banks of Coniston Water in the failing light is so unutterably tranquil.
Yes it can be a bit noisy on Friday and Saturday evenings, but most places are and when you eventually get to sleep you know that you won't feel so bad about your kids making so much noise at 6 in the morning ;-) Also, most people are considerate and if you ask them politely to keep the noise down then most will oblige.
The shop is simple, but well stocked and a bit of a trek from the camping areas, but as it's at the entrance you can pick up your fresh milk and freezer packs on your way back in after a lovely day's exploring.
The toilet facilities are fairly basic, but scrupulously clean and the washing up area is fine with oodles of really hot water. Oh and we made good use of the washing machines and driers this year as well. The owners do a very good job of clearing up rubbish and making sure that bins are emptied daily.
You can even launch small boats from two 'slipways'. Wild Cat Island is a lovely voyage away at the other end of the lake!
Coniston Village has all the facilities you need and more. We shattered the centreboard on our old National 12 Dinghy and a local Joiner made a replacement for us out of marine ply for £25! Kept us on the water for the next 2 weeks.
There are also a couple of really decent pubs in Torver.
All in all we love this place and heartily recommend it to all.

I've been a fair few times to this site and its great, right on the shore of Coniston. Pick your own space to set up in a massive field. Must be one of the cheapest sites in the lakes now. Facilities are clean and tidy, a little dated but they do the trick with hot showers at 50p for 5-6 minutes. No fuss to book in, or as we usually do just turn up.
A short walk into Coniston for some great pubs all serving decent food.
Site is ideally located for mountain biking and walking which is why we use it.

Great site, arrived after 8pm on a whim and was checked in without any fuss. We were left to find a pitch of our choice and got pitched quick with no problems about 20 yards from a water point, when morning arrived we were able to get our bearings and found the toilet/shower blocks which were clean and tidy and plentiful. After we had settled in we got a barbecue going which they are happy to allow and had lunch while taking in the view of the lake and hills surrounding us, had no problem with parking or space as its a large site and set out on the many trails leading out of the site. Over all great weekend and very pleasant site will be going back again.

Facilities ok, though it can be quite a hike to use the toilets depending on where you camp. Ground can be difficult as it is stoney. Campsite owners were quite surly and non to friendly but kept the toilets clean and well stocked with loo rolls.
Trouble we had was with other campers who seemed to be out of it and were loud and abusive to each other in the night so my advice is, take ear plugs or be prepared to tell them to shut up !
Don't think I will be going back to be honest.
