Just returned from a weekend at Coniston hall. This site is in an amazing location. The setting and scenery is spectacular, it is among the finest in the lake district.
It borders the shore of coniston where it is safe and shallow for net fishing and paddling. There is a lovely footpath crossing fields well away from the road that leads you into the village which has a handful of pubs and gift shops.
Boats can be hired and it has a very holiday feeling about the place down by the bluebird cafe. We ate at the Black bull and the food was well priced and excellent, washed down with bluebird real ale.
It cost £25 to camp for me and my daughter for two nights. The toilets can be a fair walk away depending where you pitch. They are quite dated but very clean and there are lots so even though the site was busy it never got too overcrowded. Showers cost 50p and you get plenty of hot water for that.
This site is still great and I will return but do consider that you may experience some noise at night.

Whatever anyone says about this campsite, I have gone to camp there every year since 2007 and am happy to advise. Coniston hall is not a family site, it's the only campsite in the lakes that allows groups of people to camp and enjoy themselves without having to worry about being quiet after dark. I am a mother myself, and I would not take my daughter to Coniston hall I take her take her to one of the thousands of campsites that are relaxed and quiet. I think it is only fair that there is one campsite that allows groups, and would hate to think that people would complain about this aspect even though they have the choice to camp anywhere they like and have some quiet relaxing break. I love Coniston hall and dread being left with no campsite to camp in with my friends once a year, please be warned this is not a family site but if you're after a festival without the bands then come to Coniston hall and you will have an amazing time!

This site was looking OK, plenty of room, pleasant surrounds. But plagued by midgies, everywhere ! The toilet block was basic, showers to be paid for, at 50p a go. Un-even ground mostly too. Not a good bet, pubs and village a fair walk also. Some youngsters were making noises in the night, drinking and singing, at the nearby shore line, walking back and forth to their tents for 're-supplys'! :( Coniston itself is pretty nice, and lots of pubs, dear prices of course, but we ARE in Tourist land. The Lake cruises are to be taken, very nice and informative.

Clean but dated Toilet blocks with plenty of hot water. Not sure they would cope very well if the site was full. Weather was poor on visit and site was quite busy with motorcyclist group and kayakers. The kayakers were noisy with one idiot banging a plate in the early hours and shouting 'breakfast' He then proceeded to bang his car door over and over again. Fantastic location but would benefit from some investment in the facilities. Ground is very uneven and because of its location right on the lake edge is prone to flooding and be prepared for the chap at the check in - the grumpiest fella I have ever met !

When we read the reviews about this campsite we were really nervous about visiting it. However, we were pleasantly surprised.
We travelled with 2 children (3years and 8 months old), and we were meeting friends; a couple with a child (4 years old) and another couple. We were close to the toilet and shower block and close to the path that leads to the lake.
The pitch could've been better maintained but that's the only gripe really. They do not allow gazebos, so leave it at home. It was relaxed, the kids had plenty of room to run around, and everyone was very considerate.
I think it cost 50p for a shower and it ran for about 10mins. The shop on site stocks basics but it was a little pricey. The sun was out all weekend which was a bonus.
I would definitely return to this site.

A fabulous location right by the lake and unfortunately that's about all the positive things I could come up with about this site.
Its expensive for what it is, a large field with a very basic toilet/shower block. The showers are 50p each and you have no way of adjusting temperature of the water. They also seem to be very temperamental as we both had problems with the showers eating our money and no water, not even cold.
The field is flat but boggy in places. There is a speed limit and a notice requiring dogs to be kept on a lead however there seems to be no enforcement of theses rules with the worse culprits being the farmers hammering up and down the field on their quad bike. Unfortunately there was a very loud group on the site when we stayed who insisted on yelling and shouting until the early hours being rude to anybody who challenged them and asking them to keep the noise down. As the owners live at least 400 metres away from the site and didn't seem to venture out of reception and were nowhere to be seen at night the group carried on the noise.
I suggest this may not be a site for families but more a site for groups who don't mind the cost, noise or basic facilities.

This site is boggy in places and mainly muddy after rain. This could be improved if the owners actually used some of the money they make to construct some drainage trenches.
The toilets are basic but clean.
There are not enough litter bins.
You pay for everything. Per person, per car, per boat, and the shop is expensive.

Well was almost certain it would be horrendous after reading some reviews before our visit, but I booked on Thursday last week and travelled to Cumbria on Friday morning, very easy to find although a tight approach road and a few blind bends. Booked in and paid £7 each per night and £2 per night for the car, total £16 per night and five pounds for the car entry barrier card (refundable).
The site was quite full by lunch time and very wet and muddy in places, ground is rocky in places so advise steel tent pegs for rough terrain. The site though was litter free apart from a few tiny bits of discarded paper, the toilet/shower block was clean and well supplied plenty of hot water in showers for 50p a go, and the refuse bins were emptied frequently throughout the day. Water taps dispersed around the site but not a lot of pressure and took a while to fill carrier found it easier to just fill kettle as needed, camp shop at farm entrance had most supplies needed and fresh milk etc. There were a few noisy groups and one in particular a group of males with a great big power amplifier in a tent on its own powered from the engine bay of a ford focus blaring out music till past 1.30 am thankfully they were at the far end of the site and did not cause us any disturbance.
We found there were excellent access to the lake shore and launching facilities for boaters also plenty of young family groups there too. All in I would definitely visit again and the location is ideal waking up with the lake on onside and the old man of Coniston on the other. I would recommend it as a good camping site shame if the weather not good though can be muddy.

This was our first visit to the Lake District, and first time staying at this campsite.
This is a large campsite on the edges of Lake Coniston which was fantastic for us as we took our canoe with us, and from the campsite you have direct access to the water.
There are many good things about this site but also quite a few negatives especially if you are going with small children.
It is very reasonably priced at £16 for two adults, we didn't have to pay for our 2 year old.
As we had our canoe with us it was an extra £1 per night for it. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we didn't have to pay for our kitchen tent, which at most sites we would of.
We were told to camp anywhere we liked. There had obviously been some heavy rain that day as a lot of the site was far too boggy to pitch a tent, we found a spot eventually.
The toilet block and washing up facilities were up a small hill backing onto woodland. The block itself was functional, could do with a tidy up and a good lick of paint but otherwise ok. The showers are operated by coin 50p for about 5 mins. Occasionally the showers swallow your coin without providing any water, so take in a couple just in case. The owners are always happy to give you your 50p back just remember which shower it was so they can look at it.
As it is such a large site they could do with another shower/toilet block somewhere else on the site, as when its really busy there can be quite a long queue, I spent 1 hour in the queue on a sat am.
On the plus side they do have plug points by the sinks, just wish I had taken my hairdryer.
The site does allow large groups of people, which is great if you are meeting friends etc, but at some points it did have an 18-30 feel about it. So not so brilliant if you have children with you. There were a few times where you would be out in the day to come back to find that a group of 5 or so tents, all together in one group had pitched right next to you.
The site is is a really beautiful area with great views of Old Man Coniston and Coniston lake.
You can walk to the village where there are pubs serving locally brewed bitters and good food. There is also a butchers in the little premier supermarket. The meat is really well priced and fantastic quality. All of the locals we met were really friendly.

Love this site! great location right next to Conistgon water, lovely walkway all the way to coniston village. Great spot to set off for old man climb. Does get very busy and you can become surrounded by campers but still a lovely site and very friendly campers to chat to.
Toilets up a little hill with power sockets! Great site very helpful friendly owner, not too strict with rules etc you find your own spot, no campfires but you can have bbqs etc if raised from ground.
